Title: Is everyone's exhaust black/Sooty or just mine?
Post by: 18Edition30 on August 19, 2013, 09:37:24 pm
As above I can clean my exhaust, make it sparkling.....

Then take it for a drive and its black with soot!

Car is Edition 30 Currently running APR Stage 1, VWRacing intake, milltek Cat Back and Pre Cat delete...just seems to be blacker than normal?

What's the reason for this?

How  do I stop this?

Some remaps run very rich - which is why you sometimes see clouds of black smoke when you put your foot down (and on dyno days)

The richness soots up the tail pipes.

I got mine lovely and shiny with a bit of Brasso a couple of weeks ago...it's definitely started to leave black deposits already, and mine is totally stock.

Mine gets sooty fairly quickly but cleans up again with some Britemax and wire wool. Also running an APR map.

Mine is stock and does soot up after a few days. I have just got into the habit of giving them a quick wipe over, each night i put it in the garage, only takes two secs rather than leave it a few weeks and then it taking ages  :signLOL:

I think mine may be running a little rich. 0 to black in 1 second  :signLOL:

As the internal combustion engine is not 100% efficient (which would only produce CO2 and H20), surely any exhaust on any car would get sooty from the unburnt carbon in the exhaust!

In regards to how quickly they get sooty, well surely there are too many variables?

So it's not just mine then!

I can get it sparkling no problem with Autosol. Just go for a drive and its black again! You would think its a derv!  Seems most of your guys engines let out abit of soot though? Is it excess fuel or oil burning??

My DPF fitted derv doesn't dirty the tail pipes at all
