If this has been reset by the seller what does the new buyer need to do to get it working?  Is it just a matter of loading it onto your computer?

I think that one has been reset by Superchips so as far as I know it's ready to rock.  I know the ad says Skoda but I don't think that's a limitation.

Im gonna go out for another Blast because my traction control light has not been going off like a xmas tree light like i was expecting. After quick convo with hedge, apparently im not trying hard enough, so off to try and "Make it so"

Power really does kick in from around 2500rpm and the front tyres you can feel are really holding on for grim death, although im running Dunlop Tirenoise Max's at the moment, they seem to be doing ok.

The gearchange pause did seem to start to improve the longer i was out.

Off now for another test :drinking:

Are you running Stage 1 or 2?
I would guess you've been given stage 1 but need stage 2 as you have the exhaust etc.

Either that or you are driving like a granny.... the difference should be night and day!

....Stop tempting him, John!

As others have said, Phil - You'll probably need to let the remap settle in with the ECU. But I don't have any direct experience of the Bluefin.

I don't know how much not having a Milltek Turbo-back would restrict the Bluefin's performance. Superchips would be able to tell you.

The Ed30's are silly fast with a remap! Nice 1 :happy2:

^^^  :congrats:

ok been for a spirited blast and there is deffinatly more power and feels like ive gained another 30 or so horses...... but im abit disapointed as to why when pushing on, when changing gear or when you ask it to go faster, it seems to very hesitant or excellarating smoothly. On the standard map, the power is ameadiatly on and a flowing smooth feeling, yet with the bluefin, it feels like im letting off the power as you begin the start of the next gear.... hard to explain . Have heard the exhaust noise at around 3500rpm in top gear and have experianced the "Boom" from the Non Res Milly that some people have spoken about, so maybe Res section would be better, but im not that fused about that tbh.

Not sure what to think really , driving normally up the gears she is totally fine and alot more responcive, but only when really giving the pedal a push at any speed, it feels like im easing off the gas and then putting it back on in a second.

Anyone else had this? interested to hear from Quality Dave, as he's tried it and wasn't 100% impressed?.Whether this was his complaint or Garethmk1.

Steve,

I wasn't impressed by the drive TBH.  Perhaps I didn't leave it for long enough to 'adapt'.

I felt that it was all or nothing, below 3500rpm it was as if you were waiting for something to happen (turbo lag?) and then post 3500rpm it took off like a scalded cat.  Bear in mind I have a manual Ed.

It seemed to ruin what the GTi is about for me.  I will take another dip into the remap pool, but not just yet, i am enjoying my car as is.

Perhaps leave it as is for adaptation, or get in touch with SC and explain your thoughts, their cust service is good.

Only you could put on a remap and complain it's not fast enough and worry that your non res miltek is too loud haha
Title: Re: Look whats just arrived...
Post by: Hedge on August 26, 2009, 03:32:58 pm
My impressions are that even on a non-mapped edition 30 there is quite noticeable lag below 2.5k rpm followed by a rapid increase in torque that gradually tails off as you go further into the rev range. All the Bluefin did on mine was amplify the standard experience and enhance it.

Maybe Phylys is sulking.  :signLOL:

Originally stage 1 was a torque limited map but post Crimbo '08 the DSG and manual maps were the same.

....

Phil, I've just been speaking to someone at Milltek (about other subjects) and mentioned your findings because I wondered if it was anything to do with difference in flow between Turbo-back and Cat-back. He said it was probably down to the map and he had heard of such findings before with a Stage 1 map.

I'm sure that Superchips will be able to help you but it might still be best to see how she runs over the next few day's mileage.

Post by: Oli on August 26, 2009, 04:27:12 pm
Im surprised you are not more pleased.  When re-mapping all of the cars Ive owned the difference has been like night and day, no more so than on the edition 30, where it feels like it is literally pulling the front tyres off, and even more so now, I have stage 2 , an intake and TBE Milltek.

I'd give superchips a ring or speak to Simon @ E-maps and get a proper map put on there.......

Steve

ECU Adaptation happens over a number of drive cycles so after several trips/journeys it should improve.

One of the things I always found with the later version of the SC map (after the worked around torque limit for DSG cars and standardized the mapping with the manual cars), is there is this feeling of almost a flat spot, most noticed in 3rd gear on a long pull.

It sounds like this is the same as Steve is getting with the "it feels like im easing off the gas and then putting it back on in a second."

It would also be worthwhile getting of the friendly locals with VAG COM to log it to see how the timing pull etc is  :happy2:

The power is superb when it comes on, just doesnt feel even when it lays the power down. Goes really well, but it feels like my DSG speedie gearchange advantage has gone over the stick shifter brigade

superchips dont support the dsg remap, yeah it worked with the quicker shifts and the kickdown etc, but it wont rev up beyond 6200 rpm, as they won't or probably don't know how to remove the soft limiter

having used their software and now revo I have never looked back, and steve I remember the comments you used to say about Superchips, the laughter from you after the Gti forum day at JKM almost a year ago when mine and the other chap put down sh*t figures, I was bemused when I heard your decision.

Revo would be my first choice but for some extra shove, it goes well.
I now have the money for the dowpipe and spts Cat due to the saving.

He is one of the 'old school' remappers about, and works very closely with  someone in Germany, who works very closely with Oettinger,  he takes your map off and custome re-maps to suit.  Mention me when you speak to him.

Glad it's greatly improving, Phil, but all that gobblygook number stuff is doing my head in!! :stupid:
As long as it goes well, and isnt doing any damage whilst driving it, was all i wanted to get out of this tonight, the flat spot issue is getting better and she is now quite a different car!.

Look foward to putting her on the rollers on the 3rd of october at JKM to see the difference. Remind me NOT to chuck in the Redex prior!  :signLOL:

upload them to some webspace somewhere.

I wonder if it might be worth you switching to V-Power.  Looking at your log vs Ians Stage 1 and he doesn't have any timing pull at all.

I think with more adapation time those CFs may come down a little.

What I've noticed from the limited logs done is that the actual requested booost never meets the specified value.

I mentioned that to Steve, the requested seemed to be consistently above actual but the N75 seemed ok.

I'd prefer an all tfsi day.  Why don't we get something organised with Charlie at Surrey Rolling Road - a very good independant( maybe I'll start a seperate thread on this??

Steve - I did not like their first map I am know running a custom bluefin map - I'll go out to the car get my serial number and maybe you could ask superchips to emulate this map to yours (albeit mine is a manual yours is DSG).

I felt that in first and second that their "off the shelf" intial map gave very poor performance.  The one I have now has 20Nm less torque at top but has a greater spread below.

Hang in there Steve - I didn't know what to think either intially - BUT now I wouldn't swap it for the world.

PM your tel number and I'll give you a ring,

.... hang on for that serial number ...

Regards,

Gareth

How did you go about getting a custome bluefin map from SC? And how much did it cost?

Dropped into a place near me that advertises sc. They want £435 and you don't get the bluefin module!!! At least they didn't say so if they do include it  :stupid:

^^^ They will be offering the normal direct upload to ECU type mapping.

Go direct to Superchips and with the forum discount you will get the Bluefin handset and the map for £391.  :happy2:

Should've said... I already have bluefin stage 2 and I'm getting the HPFP internal fitted tomorrow and I was going to go for the stage 3 bluefin, but if they can offer custom maps I thought maybe that would be worth a look.

Is yours a Std GTi or ed30??

Ed30 has a bigger turbo and more noticeable lag then the smaller turbo on the std GTi.
Perhaps thats why you feel yours was different?.

Car is getting better and better with more drive cycles now, so am enjoying the extra pace when needed.

I have an ed30 so same as you  :happy2:

I have also got the stage 2 map which i run with just a panel filter, it changed the way the car felt but i got a bit paranoid about doing any damage so have put stage 1 back on untill i get my TBE.

FWIW each time I have changed the Superchips map on my Edition 30 via the Bluefin device it has usually taken say 50 miles or an hour or two of driving before it starts to give it's best.

It is odd, and I am sure down to the car/weather/fuel/driving conditions, etc .... but every now and then when switching between maps it seems to take to the map almost immediately and just then fine tune before settling .... whereas most of the time it learns and just gets better and better over the next couple of weeks

Mine BF remap has been on almost a year now and no issues at all .... the car seems better too as I've doubled the mileage (to a massive 12K) which can't do the performance any harm !
