Title: Potential MkV purchase - Rust spotted
Post by: ondafly on August 21, 2013, 08:49:14 am
Hi Folks,

I'm on the fence about a particular MKV I viewed recently. I noticed a couple of strange rust spots and wondered are they a sign of something worse

Front right sill/arch

Is there any particular reason for the rear door pillar rust spots ? also as the car is only 2007 - would VW cover this ?

You'll probably get a 50% contribution from vw but I'd move on to another car.  The skirts have been badly prepped and sprayed, that paint will flake off in no time

The rubber door seals rub the paint work

The kicker here is, I need a 5 door and the spec of this particular one is excellent, dsg/leather/climate/nav/fsh/low mileage and the remaining ones for sale here (ireland) don't come near that spec.

ah ok, so if repaired, you would need to trim back the door seal ever so slightly.

wheel arches are a major problem, check all around for any signs of bubbling or early rust

You can buy precut patches to place on these areas

It seems its not only VW that suffered with rust , theres an 07 plate Ford Focus in my works carpark which has all 4 arches and both sill fronts rubbed down and primered due to rust! Surely major manufacturers like Ford and VW should be building cars that last more than 6 years before rusting - this isnt the 70s ffs. Bring back British Leyland.
