I bought my Gti 2 weeks ago after doing 500 miles with a mate trying to find a good one.
Its a red 3 door in great condition, 71k Miles, Full service history, long MOT and tax. Ideal!
It already had a Milltek cat back resonated exhaust, Neuspeed intake and Forge diverter valve. It had a APR stage 1 map but VW done a recall on software and wiped it back to standard!
Here it is on my recovery when bought!

Horrible un-coded rear bumper.

First thing i done was get rear bumper colour coded and awaited new wheels and Eibach springs

Wheels and springs fitted, and an all important timing belt kit.

Changed Milltek resonated to non resonated and fitted a 3" decat downpipe so it had all hardware for stage 2 mapping

Then took it to Autohaus Edinburgh to get it mapped to stage 2, which was free as it had already had an APR map in the past- they do free upgrades! Should be 270-280bhp but will get it on a rolling road sometime soon.

Decided i didnt like black side skirts and lower front valance, so removed them and got them painted. I also fitted a later rear badge as mine was goosed.

Sorry for the brutal pictures, theyre just taken randomly on my Iphone. Ill get some better ones soon.
Comments welcome!
-
Looking good :happy2: liking the improvements!
-
Looking good mate, like the upgrades.
Painted kit looks much better in my opinion.
Si
-
Thanks, yeh im very happy now i got them colour coded. Wasnt sure whether to get them done or not, but definitely looks better now.
Anyone had theirs colour coded? I removed the skirts and front splitter and took to the bodyshop, he took £280 cash job. Is that not steep!? :surprised:
He previously done whole back bumper, including removing and refitting for £125!
Want a short private plate now, and wouldnt mind some coilovers to drop another 20mm!!
-
Looks nice :happy2:
I am having a resonated Milltek fitted this Saturday, I have original down pipe though. Did you change to non resonated to get some extra sound?
Also are those new wheels reps?
What springs are they the height looks perfect?
cheers
-
Did you get your non res pipe off eBay? How many clamps did you get with it?
-
Yeh i thought resonated was too quiet, even with a decat! Non resonated off Ebay (Roadrunner Motorsport) was £120. Comes with reducer to fit standard downpipe and 2 clamps.
Wheels are BBS reps, disnt fancy paying £1500+. The reps are made by 'Dare' so a heard of name too.
Springs are Eibach sportlines.
-
£125 is a very good price I think for rear. Maybe he charged more as skirts front more fiddly to smooth etc.
Looking into getting my rear bumper smoothed painted the same :happy2:

Hi , where did you get the reps from? I have see some for 400 quid on a site that look good

Think i prefer them!
-
Cars looking miles better just colour coding it and looks well on those wheels too
Be careful with the German plates as they are illegal as it isn't the standard UK font and so you may have trouble with the police as I don't think ANPR will like them
Got my pressed plates off dubmeister at inters a few years back and look great but have the all important BS Kite mark, post code and UK font too :happy2:
Dave
-
Cheers Dave!
Yeh im an MOT tester so know the script with legalities, but around here tend not to get much bother as long as its not taking the piss, which i dont think the font is..? Still easily read.
Does anyone actually care about the markings? Have to be someone pretty strict!
German plates with uk font? Hmm never seen em.
-
Guess its different depending on where you live but if you attend shows or meets then police tend to be looking out for stuff like that :fighting:
Mine aren't German plates just metal pressed plates but in UK font :happy2:
Dave
-
I also have the metal pressed UK plates from dubmeister, MOT compliant, not had any issues.
Is the stock car in the background yours?? More pics of that :signLOL:
-
Is that monsall garage!!! If so I get my car worked on their also.
-
Its our family run garage and stock car is a Ninja Kart, for kids! :)
-
I want mine to look like this! Looks Great! Just what I've wanted to do to mine!
-
Looks almost identical to where I had my brakes done.
-
:happy2:
I couldnt help myself but do it all ASAP! :driver:
-
Looks almost identical to where I had my brakes done.
Thats just our MOT bay. Pretty crap actually, having to use a pit!
-
Im building up to getting some good pictures, heres some in low light...

Loving the colour coding can't wait to get mine done. Have you needed to replace your clutch to go stage 2?
-
Loving this :)

Amazing what a bit of colour coding does to a car. I've just collected the full GTI skirts and valances to code to my Tornado GT TDi.
I'm from just over the water, Edinburgh. But am in Dunfermline most weekends (gf). There seems more and more central Scotland members. Will let you know if a meet gets organised.
Subscribed to the build thread. :happy2:

Thanks for comments, didnt seem to have had email notifications!
Standard clutch is perfectly fine on stage 2. Even a stage 2+ K04 (350bhp) can run a standard clutch!
Yeh i see theres a good few Scottish members!
Heres slightly better pictures

I take is yours is a DSG then?
Edit: just seen your interior pics and you've got a manual. Not sure others will agree with the above statement! Maybe can run a standard clutch but not for long.
Think your GTI is probably the best looking one I've seen on here TBH, the recent pics are perfect.

Yeh i see theres a good few Scottish members!
I take is yours is a DSG then?
Edit: just seen your interior pics and you've got a manual. Not sure others will agree with the above statement! Maybe can run a standard clutch but not for long.
Think your GTI is probably the best looking one I've seen on here TBH, the recent pics are perfect.
Thanks a lot mate, i really do like how it looks too! :drinking:
Reason i say standard clutch is ok, is my mate has an ED30 running stage 2+ and has ran standard clutch with it for a long time. He has an upgraded clutch to fit, but hasnt done so as it hasnt needed it!!
As for the car, nothings been done in last month, after an RNS510 so keep an eye out.
crap dirty weather now too so ive bought a 4x4!

nice short wheelbase, plenty of clearance, decent A/T tyres...permanent 4WD? your not getting stuck in a hurry,.
-
Na hopefully not! :pomppomp:
Rear wheel drive (with LSD- exciting!) until 4x4 engaged, has Low box too so all good for when the going gets rough/ tough
-
Cool, is it viscous coupling jobby, or electronic like Haldex? Bet it'll be great fun!
-
Not a clue what kind of LSD they have, but the certainly aint electronic!!
-
Love this!! How do you get on with the springs on your mileage, does it feel tight or crashy at all?
-
Cheers mate.
Springs felt spot on, very comfortable.
Now has coilovers as springs barely lowered it. True mesurements were like 20-25mm drop.
-
I won't be going for coilovers I'm just looking for a small drop to improve handling for a small price so the cost of coilovers are not for me.
I'll be getting sportline springs after Christmas but I'm just bit concerned that I'm at 62k miles on standard shocks.

^^^ I lied I now have clutch slip on stage 1 bluefin so new clutch or remove the remap
