My father in law has a 54reg golf which has started rusting on 1 of the wings where the plastic screw is. I told him to take it to VW as it should be covered by corrosion warranty.
So Vw said they would do it but they would need so much money towards it??? Surely if this is a warranty issue they should cover the full costs?
Has any1 had the same problem with there wings and had vw sort them? If so did u pay anything or did the just do it. These cars have about a 10 year corrosion warranty, even his sills are showing signs of bubbling.

Have a read :happy2:
Also if you drop me an email i will send you the VW pdf regarding the corrosion issue.
The outcome for many has changed alot recently with 50% contributions being the norm, but others are getting far better even FOC.

Thanks for the info mate, and yes that pdf would be great thanks

I have the same problem, will let you know what vw say when I see them
-
I have had both replaced free of charge. So long as they haven't been sprayed before you should be fine :happy2:
-
As of may 31st, VW decided to change the outcomes and only make contributions of 50% towards the cost, some people are finding other costs contributed too, via different forms from VW.
I think alot of Wings are being repaired rather than replaced, but as others will agree, once rust has set in then it will come back, my mk4 was done 3x.
-
50% is the best I've got for 2 rusting arches. Ive taken it a long way, through local dealer, then referral to a different dealer and finally to VW Executive with whom i have had numerous letters, emails, texts and calls. The best they are offering is 50%.

That sucks really, out of interest how much does 50% on an arch cost the consumer?
Would it be cheaper to get a wing sprayed up... think they go for ~£100 painted to code... DIY fit.
ESP. Considering the dealers are probably repairing them and not fitting a new one.

Just been on the phone to vw and 50% is the best they will do which I think is shocking! They should be covering the full cost as its a warranty job. I asked what would I have to pay with the 50% off and they said £280+vat for 1 fricking wing replaced and painted, so that would be £560+vat total price for 1 wing replaced n painted from vw.
-
Surely vw wouldn't charge £560+ vat to replace n paint a wing.
-
Yep, thats about what they quoted me. The official line is that the rust is caused by a foam pad being inserted in an incorrect place in the arch liner which collects water/waste. VW class it as a "mechanical defect" as opposed to a problem with the paintwork/metal itself which rules out a claim under the paintwork perforation warranty.

already sent this morning :happy2:

Mine have gone really bad! Asked the previous owner if he had been to VW and he said yes but they fobbed him off and he went and got them resprayed! Now I'm going to have to fork out for new wings and painting :fighting: they are starting to go quite bad as well!

Yep , when I had my last GTI done last year they said it would have been over a grand if I was habing to pay - had both wings changed.... :surprised:
-
Mine was done FOC by my dealer. Kinda wish I hadn't of had them do it though.
Paint doesn't match and they refuse to blend it as blending isn't part of the warranty. Really p*ssed off.
Currently now on the hunt for a Steel Grey O/S wing.
-
so it depends on the dealership, anyone used VW in doncaster?
-
Will they cover it if the car has been modified? Mine is currently on coilovers, about to go on air ride in one week. Today my arches were meant to get rolled but when the guy had a look at them from the inside, he saw the rust, and then showed me. We then also noticed some slight bubbling of the paint on the edge of the lip.

Bringing this thread back from the dead, I spoke to vw tech today about my ed30 front wings that are starting to corrode.
He was very unhelpful, insisted the warranty is only 10 years and that it had to have been serviced by vw. He tried fobbing it off as a mechanical "rubbing issue"
Do you still have the PDF frodo?
Cheers

I wouldn't touch the arches at all if I was you. Once they see they are rolled they will offer no help at all.

@Rawson (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=19222) exact problem i had but instead go to an approved vw audi body shop they will help solve it and the warranty is 12 yrs as it says it in the vw warranty book
Good luck
-
I will do that! Was gonna go through vw customer service route but that sounds better. Hopefully the tech I get won't be a complete arse like the vw one, he was insisting it's only 10 years even when I had in writing In front of me!
-
Where abouts are you
-
I'm in sw London mate. Can't seem to find any approved vw/Audi that want to help
-
I just called VW customer care and they advised me to call a VM retailer. They confirmed that VW warranty for corrosion is 12 years. So I called the retailer/dealer and the dealer said to me on the phone that the 12 year warranty is for the whole body but not the arches, the arches is only 10 years. I was thinking "what he is on about". Anyway, he said he is happy for me to bring the car on Monday and he will take pics and submit to VW.
-
Maybe it is for the current Golfs? Either way, it sounds like them adjusting the warranty period so that your car conveniently falls outside of it.
Do VW HQ force dealers to cover warranty claims from their own budgets? It's the only reason I can think of for some dealers being a pain in the arse about it.
-
I don't know to be honest.
But I will give you guys an update on Monday. Hopefully everything will be fine.
-
I ended up calling a different vw dealer a bit further out and they was much more helpful, the car is now booked in for a few weeks time, fingers crossed.
-
Hi guys,
Just to give an update about my visit to the dealer: Unfortunately the car has been resprayed so not covered. The only part of the car that hasn't been resprayed is the bonet. The shade of the paint is 4 times higher than the original :(
Still looks awesome though :)
