Hi, I have a couple of questions. First of all I have a gt tdi, now I have just got my private plate transferred onto the car. I'm wanting to fit a shorter plate on the front but when I removed the original plates, the registration plate holder that's fixed to the bumper has 4 big fixing points that will be clearly visible once I fit my new plate. I went to VW today to buy a new plate holder (£26 btw) but its got the same fixing holes so I didn't bother with it. The problem I'm having is that if I fit my shorter plate you will see the 4 big fixing holes of the original holder to the bumper at either side of my private plate.
So what's the easiest way around this? Has anybody else done away with the vw plate holder and fitted something else?

get a smoothed grill and bond magnets to the backs...
-
US spec smooth GTI grille --- 1K0 853 651 H VW8
Then stick your plate on that or as above mentioned bond magnets.
-
how much are these grills

How much are they? is that from VW direct?
Ive always assumed people just smoothed theirs didnt realise you could buy a genuine part.
also, another option is sucker pads, cheaper and easier than the magnets. :happy2:

got mine off here for about £50 :happy2:

I've got a American smoothed grill on mine and use both a magnet plate (kept in the boot if needed) and suction plate (on the car). USA grills are around £120 ish IIRC, plates and magnets/suckers are cheap as chips.
My OEM USA smoothed grill....

Guy's i have a GT TDI.
Do these smooth grille's only come in GTI versions? If so it looks like my only other option would be to get it filled and painted.

filled and sprayed easiest and to be honest probably not that £££ at the body shop....

Vinyl wrap it or (as mentioned) get it done at a body shop. Can't see it costing more than £50 TBH. :happy2:
-
As above, vinyl wrap it. Could fill the holes in with polygrip for all it matters, vinyl over the top and job done - smooth!
-
i just plugged the holes with domed fixings from b&q!
