Title: Looking to get a mk5 GTi in the new year.
Post by: Joshy on September 03, 2013, 12:05:45 am
Thought I'd sign up to this forum now even though I don't own a golf yet and probably won't own one until after the new year.

At the moment I own a corsa d that is on air ride

This car is getting split and sold eventually so I can hopefully get a mk5 GTi.

I've already got some plans for the golf that include air ride, some nice wide wheels, r32 rear valance.

I also want to get the car running more power but im unsure abut the tuning options for the mk5 so if someone could explain them to me it would be awesome!

Cheers, Joshy.

Also can i have some information on bumpers please.

When i've been looking for cars i've found the petrol GTi has the honeycomb front grills, but i think i want a diesel as the petrol will average less mpg than what my corsa does! I can't seem to find a diesel that has the honeycomb front grills. I'm guessing its just the petrol that has the honeycomb grills.

I've been reading on a few forums and it seems that fitting the Gti bumper to a 2.0L GT sport isn't a straight swap. Can someone please inform me on what is needed to do this?

Well i thought you could get them in diesels at first, but after searching around i've realised you can't :)

Afraid not. The mk6 with GTD spec is as close as you will get to a diesel GTI

Ah i see! Not really looking for a mk6 as im not too keen on those. I might look into getting the Gt sport and doing a front end conversion.

Thought i'd bump this thread as i have some more questions :)
I've decided i'm going to look for a mk5 gti, and i've pretty much figured out how im going to get this car show ready. Anyway, i'm trying to sell my car at the moment so hopefully soon i can buy a golf, but when looking at the mk5s, what do i need to be careful of?

Is there certain problems that need looking into ect?

Rust on front arches
Oil around rocker cover could indicate a pcv valve problem
Vacuum pump for oil leaks
Find out when the dump valve was changed last
Cambelt
Probably a lot more others can help with
