Title: Lazer Blue GTI
Post by: TForrest94 on September 06, 2013, 03:04:17 am
Oi Oi interwebs

Been bothering a few of you with questions for the last few months so i thought id throw a little build thread up of the new women in my life, never owned anything over than vws and dont see that changing for a very long time if ever, this is now my forth

its a 2005 3dr GTI and as all of you know its a truely incredible car but before i start banging on and boring you all with it ill throw a little back ground in of the history

Car number 1: My one true love
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2012-09-29125335_zps909cdfe5.jpg&hash=c14ec3239ebfbbaf696c79c479adc69ae62a5bb0)

a resto project me and my dad decided to do when i was 16, we spent weeks debating bug or bus but the right choice was made

Car number 2: The first golf
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F540592_10150712721808440_564878439_9505328_738839791_n_zps81dc7c19.jpg&hash=5481b2ec48e0b47f5b7cd792a3431a57acc6d986)

a tiny 1.3 got me through 6th form and made some really good memories but before i knew it i was itching for more speed then i stumbled across this

no.3 GTI POWER
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-04-12185553-1_zps2aee193a.jpg&hash=d253f948fa530277193c3ddd58a3a0beb84811cb)
Bought it through a member on Edition38 and after a fair bit of work got it up to reasonable condition, really taught me alot about driving, the sad day came when I started uni and the countless motorway miles began, could only bare the sight of the speedo and the thought of the engine internals for so long before i had a major cooling problem nearly costing me the car, spent a few weeks fixing that on the search for something realiable

that brings us here
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-04-30173551_zps8c80491e.jpg&hash=f12facd2a58bae73c63003fd67f3c7374f8f15eb)

saw it for a good price after losing hope in my searches and was on the road to view it the next day at a suzuki dealer, the bloke that traded it in must be mad!  :rolleye: anyway he was by no means an enthusiast with signs of wear and tear all around but i like a challenge and ended up taking it home, the step up was amazing and thats before i started exploring (ill explain this part in abit). Any who the spec of the car was decent, 18" monza, heated/electric folding mirrors, auto wipers, heated leathers, the old bluetooth kit (which has now ruined my dash) auto dimming mirrors, xeons and my personal favourite the sun roof

the car looked like it had been tortured at a car wash a few too many times
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-05-02155520_zps370b41ca.jpg&hash=b94db6c3af8b9ec9d6555a68374670cf1c242b23)

that only meant one thing for me, pushing uni work aside for a...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-05-20235641_zps6de8da1c.jpg&hash=944b5648f4ef2305a2cd821e8a8e569678a243b9)
not me by any means but tickled me inside hope you enjoy!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-06-21191358_zps234fa7f8.jpg&hash=aadcbcc9e69baeedba869e40af27ed7d9382afa9)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-06-20130410_zps9837c8f4.jpg&hash=c77fd918f01975d58881b8cf9470d89a48571bbf)
true lover of poor boys nattys blue, this was after one coat after a clay bar and a quick lick of auto finesse tripple

then the head unit got changed big fan of kenwood using them in both the other golfs, why fix whats not broken right?
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-05-28234037_zps2819ae30.jpg&hash=63c9a5bf6dd600f428900aad8b75f0b868edbb32)

so everyone who owns or moves in the same circles as someone else with a mk5 knows the problem of the DV, ive seen some bad ones but i think i might just be able to top the list
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-06-26202409_zpsc4357489.jpg&hash=cfe42e06d22d2f06dfc3cd2c7e014824819305c8)
and to think i was impressed with the performance when i first bought the car, been upgraded to the revision G so i shouldnt be seeing this problem anymore

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-08-13010126_zpsbaca39b2.jpg&hash=b12b8e515e9177ab0a59612b54c43b7bb1b8bf1e)
then the day come where i thought id try my hand at wrapping, not perfect but im happy with the turnout for now just to get a feel for it, was supposed to be taking the ms out for dinner... lets just say i was a little bit late that day

skipping forward sorting the problem of the broken window which was explained in another thread on here i woke up one morning deciding the car needed some new shoes and while i was there i might as well bring it a bit more down to earth
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-08-25193354_zps1fcaf6b0.jpg&hash=98b094e8198bc3223b6d2c1b16aca7132a9e9c16)
H&R with a 30mm drop and a new set of Team Dynamics imolas, also not in the picture is a blue-flame suitcase delete, lovely piece of kit and you can see its been made well, bought it direct from blue flame for piece of mind, only thing to note is your gonna need an adapter to bring the stock to 3 inch, had a mind blank and this wasn't even considered before removing the old exhaust, don't know if the eBay one is the same but be wary before starting, trying to go cat back now anyway so its only a stepping stone

now its up to date, getting all the bits to do a full service before winter also need a cambelt change so new improvements will be on hold for a little bit apart from the odd thing here and there, got wind deflectors in the post and an LED kit, hoping to get to rtech sooner rather than later as well for a stage 1 map, wont be going further than that performance wise for a while, not straight line anyway

hope you've enjoyed the read so fair and please through some input my way, let me know what you think and any little touches i can add to my long list of dreams

Tommy

and remember...

Great thread mate enjoyed reading it. I thought ny diverter valve was bad but ur one was horrific. You must've had no boost. Just curious why didnt you change it to a Revision G?

Cheers for the welcome guys and I'm glad you all like the splitty she really is my girl, my girlfriend doesn't get jealous if other girls, only my cars which is fair!

Car is booked in for a cambelt, water pump and engine steam clean on Thursday down Canterbury by my university at TMC, Mobil 1 oil and vw racing panel filter came in the post yesterday and ill be going tps to pick up spark plugs and pollen filter some time this week. So all in all a full service by the end of next week

Excited for tomorrow as I've got a das6 pro and polish coming in the post, gotta wait for chemical guys uk to pull the finger out for the pads and sealant though, it would be lovely for a full detail and protect before winter comes

Final note, spent the day cleaning the muck off my old monzas for a refurb as they will be my winter wheels, 8 years of ground in sh*t takes forever too get off and I've only done 2 of them, ill throw some pictures up as I go through the stages

Cheers for looking guys

As always any feedback is welcome
Tommy

just waiting for the rest of my pads and jetseal to get here and the car will be getting a lick

also my team HEKO wind deflectors came today, got them fitted but forgot to take a picture, you all know what they look like anyway so ill grab one soon when i have other things to upload

Moved back to uni and settled in in the new house so i thought id throw an update of whats been going on with the car in the last month or so

Day before I moved back all got a bit much with me mum and dad banging on about packing so I did what any normal person would do and went to machine polish the car, at the time my dad was moving work space so had an empty lot to work in which was the nuts

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-16113727_zpsc71bed53.jpg&hash=be012fb817eef0da159727ad7475685a1e728b56)

after the standard process of two bucket, clay, rewash, dry I cracked on with taping it up, which took a lot longer than i thought it would

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-16123908_zps02d10fb2.jpg&hash=7f1314f50a8f41f6d2447b2010f94576a015705d)

Apart from the swirls i didnt think the car looked that bad in terms of depth, oh was I wrong, heres a cheeky before
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-16124054_zps20204eef.jpg&hash=c33839ac6199b5bcefe35d86558ef0c528f7fac4)

and then after a good 6 or 7 hours it came out like this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-16220924_zps311b7ba0.jpg&hash=d99a7b00ede37c3a093dedd3b3d4d66fec0fc01e)

I always knew the lazer blue was a special colour but now im truely head over heels with the car

the I untaped the car and stood back to admire the out come of one of the most peaceful days of my life, if uni dont work out I think Id give detailing ago its a pure joy

Then freshers started, to resist the urge of driving my car throughout the days when i knew id be over the limit I did the sane thing and took the air box off to give me something to do, this was the result, some kind of ford blue (closest I could get to Lazer in Halfords) finished with satin black everywhere else, looks a lot better in person
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-24191331_zpsd4e3ab30.jpg&hash=ca3b5c92a92c6ad1aa03d7cf63f90e87feb8b31c)

Then the car went to the garage to get the cam follower done which pretty much ticked all the boxes to allow me to go stage 1, as always though something got in the way and I had to dip into remap money to get a new battery, the original had lasted 8 years which I think is pretty decent, since replacing it my sub is only powering up half way, any one got any thoughts on what could have cause it?

recovered those funds and started getting all excited for a remap and suprise suprise something else decides to poke up, what appears to be a split pcv from another thread on here, going new york next week so gonna pick up a bsh pcv revamp works out a lot cheaper than getting one here.

not all doom and glume though had a day off yesterday and thought id prept the car for winter, went for 2 coats of trusty nattys blue paste and its come up a treat
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-11-05203738_zps5a1151f6.jpg&hash=02ba20910d56878fd53c54f63b0d719219c3aa5a)

and a cheeky money shot of the beading i found this morning
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-11-06130140_zps8a24d268.jpg&hash=91e93b164a1c240ae9c3109c640a900f60598646)

cheers for readin guys throw some input my way if you want always looking for ideas

Also in a very sad post the camper van has infact been sold, she will be leaving the family friday morning

Dont think ive been this upset over losing anything before, tried selling the bloke my girlfriend instead but he was having none of it :/

in two mind sets it does open up some funds to finish some bits on the golf but i feel like its blood money never again will I be able to cruise in the summer in the best thing thats ever happened to me :/

They are amazing things I love mine so much but its just not getting the attention it needs and I cant afford to dry store it, I will be doing another one after ive graduated and that will be for life (fingers crossed)

sorry to see the camper sold but the golf is looking excellent--If you haven't already i would get the rear bumper painted

Cheers mate, the rear bumper and skirts will be going in sometime early next year ready for shows, also thinking of smoothing the front grill and going satin black that looks the muts nuts

So it's been a while but I am still knocking about, Uni took control for the last few months but I've still been active buying and tinkering where I can I'll throw a list of updates up now and it will be followed by some pictures in the next few days when I've moved out of my Uni house

So to kick things off with things bought/changed:
Neu speed p flo (fitted)
Fk coilover (yet to be fitted)
Mk6 boot badge (to be fitted)
Open fog grills (to be fitted)
Lamin x fogs (to be fitted)
Magnets for license plate delete
Various detailing items
Middle box exhaust delete (fitted)
Rear bumper and side skirts colour coded
GOT A FULL SET OF R32 BRAKES (thing I've been hunting for)
Vw puddle lights
In pro side repeaters

Got a to do list for the next few weeks to keep me busy on break:
Fit all of the above
Paint b pillar trims
Yearly polish and protection
Remove seats for complete steam/Hoover
Change damaged glove box for new one
Vinyl wrap damaged interior trims
Decide front splitter (most probably abt)
License plate delete
Potential brake CALIPER refurb before fitting
And as ever a remap which keeps getting pushed down
Fix sun roof panel
I'm looking into hydro dipping as well it's caught my attention for some interior parts
Gonna try and get hold of some interior grab handles and maybe some chrome switches

Got the rest of my student loan to live off and a few detailing jobs will be fuelling the purchases and costs

I know it's not much but a recent meet at lakeside with some members on here has resparked my passion to get as much of the car done as possible as stated pictures will follow in the next few days

Comments are welcome

So here's the long over due update, finally had access to a computer so I had a chance to update my photo bucket and get the links all over here.

To kick things off is nothing to do with my car, but drove past this the over week and the size of the exhaust was incredible, couldn't work it out but assumed it had something to do with emissions in Romania?

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi899.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2013-09-28190706_zps634936ef.jpg&hash=62d931bbb7b43bc8755c502aed7cd0c310b83b70) (http://s899.photobucket.com/user/Mk5Tommy/media/2013-09-28190706_zps634936ef.jpg.html)

And now to the good stuff, broke up from Uni last month and had a few days to myself whilst family were away and friends finishing exams so I set about getting the car ready for the summer. General condition wasn't too bad as I've been looking after it so only needed a single stage polishing before hitting it with a new glaze, well to me anyway

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2014-06-11161856_zps2cef729f.jpg&hash=22e2f607ebdb32ad254914d4123f6f383e6d942e)

Can't really see well in the picture but it's prima amigo and the stuff is outstanding, never really used glazes but read a few good things and thought I'd spoil myself for finishing second year exams

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2014-06-11172713_zpsa0972698.jpg&hash=c8b26004cda05e11a8ed2ba64b9cb8f1db996e95)

Here's a picture showing the new colour coded rear, had it done in May but haven't had a chance to show it off apart from the Essex meet the other month. Didn't get the front splitter done as it's scratched to hell so trying to source an eddy or similar when funds allow.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2014-06-11193101_zps5439c8f8.jpg&hash=46ff145d3cc259b6e1920aacdd0cd59d221a2f52)

Next few just showing off the results from the day, finished as always by two coats of jet seal 109

Cheeky one of my dog thinking he was being helpful after being ignored for the day

Got hold of a waxy box which happened to be the .50 cal special, was very impressed with all of the products, whe my current stash runs out I think I will be converting over to a few of these

One of my new favourite waxes again by .50 cal, ppenta wax. Was a dream to use and left possibly the slickest finish I've seen, next photo shows the flake after using the same wax

Then things went on hold for a while due to this little addition

I survived another fantastic year and whilst recovering had another clean of the car and started the process of looking after my old mans mk7 gti, lovely car but he persists to use automated or dodgey car washes and ruins the paint

Got A phone call off a friend at Uni late one Thursday night saying they were having a family party at their home in France (an hour outside Paris) and me and a mate had nothing planned so set off, read about so many impulse trips and it may not have been nurburg or wolfsburg (they are coming) it was still the nuts had a fantastic weekend

Came back ready for a remap, tried getting to rtec as I was close to his garage on a track day but they were shut for the annual holiday so went for the next best thing being pretty much in my door step, Billy Mitchell knows how I feel about it

Spent my free time earning some pocket money before my placement starts detailing cars for family and friends, here's a picture of my cousins r32 after a full correction and protection

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac195%2FMk5Tommy%2F2014-05-04214241_zps30520f0e.jpeg&hash=e9aea89dc95ac6a4fdef84deb5269832c35a582e)

If you have read one of the previous posts you may be aware that I grabbed hold of a full set of r32 calipers fom a car being broken, they looked great but for reassurance I thought it best to get them checked out and refurbed for good measure (got a placement for Uni) got sent this photo the other day from Brake Caliper Refurbs the other day and should be getting them back anytime soon, just gotta grabbed a set of braided lines and will look into getting them fitted.

Also should finally be getting my coil overs fitted soon after a year of having comfortable suspension I've had enough! So keep yours eyes peeled in the for sales for a set of h & r springs if anybody needs a set, only 9 months old with roughly 7000 miles
