Title: Time for a change..
Post by: Bernhard30 on September 06, 2013, 11:55:04 am
After owning my Ed30 for over 6 years and 39K miles it's now time for a change.... of windscreen wipers.

All three need changing. But heh they are the originals..

What part numbers do I need?
Or do most people upgrade to better types or just stay Oem?
And where's a good place to buy?

I just buy from VW, and I feel the need to change them every two years. Not particularly expensive over the Bosch ones from Halfrauds.

Either Bosch or OEM as others have said are the best choices  :happy2:

^^^Reminds me of when I went to buy screen wash from VW. Think I bought four bottles and the guy thought I had a leak. Had to explain that I just use lots of screenwash to keep the screen as clear as possible.

Haha, you're not the only one who does it yearly. That is actually the recommended life of blades anyway, so we're doing the right thing  :happy2:

Cheers for the replies chaps. Will get some new ones sorted soon.
Think the original ones since March '07 have done well. Cannot complain can I..

Just this minute ordered a full set from euro car parts for £26.34
Before I fit them I'm going to give the screen a thorough clean,
Can I use a clay bar on the windscreen or is it just for the bodywork?

Your not alone mate, I find myself replacing them every 12 months, just before winter; can't stand a streaking windscreen - I do cover about 20k per year though.  I use the Bosch ones.

Wash the windscreen first to remove any grit and then clay to your hearts content with a good clay lube. Either that or use damp newspaper, trust me, it works!!!

You can use clay with a shampoo and water mix.. EG use your wash mitt to hold water or mix up in a pump sprayer.
You aren't really going to damage the glass anyway it's stupidly tough to damage.
