Title: Selling the mk5 gti. How much?
Post by: yosin88 on September 08, 2013, 08:19:43 pm
Hi

I am trying to sell my 2006 (56plate) 5 door mk5 gti, its got leathers, diamond black manual with fvwsh cambelt changed, and clean as a whistle at 75k mileage. Rcd510 radio so no extras etc.

Priced it at 7450.

Is this too much?

Im just going by whats on the market prices and it seems to be the going rate or is it too much? Not to sure if the others that are for sale or even getting any interest. Anybody sold their car recently or also selling with kind of same spec and price?

I havent had any interest for the last fortnight. I can post up the link on pistonheads if that would help or allowed.

Thanks

probably too high.
I had a 4 door manual silver one, leather interior, MFD1 sat nav, heated seats, 74000 miles, full history and cambelt done.
It went for £4900  :surprised:

Unless you are able to offer finance/warranty then probably won't get anywhere near what you are  asking

Blimey 4900! that is rock bottom low. I imagine it wasnt to hard to shift at that price?

There's a lot of variation on price, and if last year is anything to go by, they'll slide over the next few months too. I'd say yours should probably be priced asking nearer £6k to be honest (sorry!).

Had it up for £6200 no interest, then £5700 and the only offers I was getting were around £5000, maybe more if i'd held out a bit more,
Yours Is probably about £6000 ish

MK6 and 7 are everywhere now, so the Mk5 is an old car to look at

Yea the variation on pricing is quite misleading. Even so, judging by autotrader and pistonheads most mk5 gti are priced around 6.5-8k plus. The 5-6k are quite high mileage 90k+ etc.

Ive seen some private sold car adverts at cars priced in region of 7k. Also the traders are still pricing the motors at 7-8.5k.
Whether they sold at that price i dont know but shouldnt be far off i imagine.

Also the cars priced to sell on the forums seem to be more cheaper than the ones on autotrader and pistonheads.

On a another note, what do you use more autotrader?pistonheads? Was contemplating at 56pounds for 6 weeks its quite alot compared to 12pounds for the month at pistonheads.

because you can enter more detailed search criteria i always use Autotrader. worth using free sources like Gumtree as well

Time of year can affect sale (not just price), people starting to think about Christmas etc.

I think your car is worth the money, but don't think you would get a sale at £7450 in todays market.

Advertised at £6750 you would get a few calls I suspect, with people coming to see it and offering around £6250-£6500. I know a big drop, just think buyers market for mk5 GTis at the moment.

Plus all depends on how quickly you are keen to sell. Advertising cost, running coats, depreciation etc all come into play after advertising a car for a long time.

Good luck with the sale.
