Title: I think someone is taking the pi55 - "Scotsmanash"
Post by: JamesH on September 10, 2013, 03:53:29 pm
Following the below sale thread, I agreed to purchase the wheels from the seller, Ashley Khan from Inverness:

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,72112.0.html

Took me three attempts to pay him, as he appeared to have PayPal issues and thank f he ended up invoicing me and I paid via PayPal payment rather than gift. We swapped emails a number of times trying to sort out courier details etc and he was really helpful snd responsive. And then he went quiet for 24 hours.

I then get the below email on Saturday:

"Sorry I haven't had a chance to email you all day, never guess what happened mate, left the alloys in the garden overnight, some thieving pricks gone and robbed them, I have an idea who it is and I'm sorting it with the police, I've tried to give you a refund on PayPal but the issue refund button is taking me to another page so please just open a dispute and get money back
Sorry about all this
Cheers"

I was a bit unhappy but as he agreed to refund me, I then raised a dispute through PayPal. Since then, not heard a peep from him. That was Sunday am. I have asked numerous times for his contact details but he appears to be very reluctant to provide them which seemed off given I had just parted with £720.

Now I'm sure there is a very legitimate reason for his lack of response and I'm sorry that he has had his wheels stolen. But at least do me the decency of responding to my emails, and my recent pm. I know I will eventually get my money back, but PayPal told me on Sunday that the action is with him to agree it so please do.

I hate name and shame posts and I'm sorry Ashley, but in my view you are taking the piss. If the wheels have been stolen, get some posts on all the major audi/vw forums and lets try and get them found for you. In the mean time, please just process my refund and I will stop emailing you.

If anyone knows Ashley Khan and can provide me with more details other than his email address, I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

If if was PP (with fees) then you should be covered, and you should get your money back. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to see this.  Another dodgy one by the look of it. Lets hope that's not the case. :sad1:

This chap had only been a member for less than a week, spent that time posting all over the shop to build his post count, got to 25 and posted a For Sale thread straight away (with no pictures at all). Got your PM and that was that, hasn't even logged on since then, 3rd Sept'.  Hopefully this is a genuine situation, at least you paid via Paypal.

The basic rules of the For Sale section REALLY do need changing. Feel like I want to shout to peeps posting bits for sale without pics or proof of ownership.

Good luck getting your money back.

Again as I said in another thread, photo with username please

I would suggest that the names Ashley and Khan don't go together . To repay someone is simple and takes a few seconds via paypal .
Sounds IFFY to me  :innocent:

Same old SH!t from his posts like the other scammer on here and only a member since 23/08 !

A scam i think , sad times , hope its not though as this is for £700 :scared:

£700 seems too cheap for those wheels/tyres

Just had a read of the sale thread.....

To me, it looks like its copied it from an Audi targeted forum.

FFS - these people really need shooting!

Previously I came from ClubPolo and to be able to post into the for sale section you had to be a fully paid member (£5 p/y) and have a post count of 'x' posts..

Now I know paying for the forum isn't where this forum really wants to go?? But it does deter some of these thieves as they are obviously tight as it is!! It might be an option for this forum in the future?

(Don't shoot me if you don't agree)

Hope you sort this out mate!

Thanks guys.

I have no address details and still no contact number. I don't understand why its such a big ask???

The reason for originally wanting to pay PayPal gift was to avoid the £25 fees but as he invoiced me, he covers the fees so I'm no worse off. I got home this evening to this email:

"Very sorry for the delay
Didnt check I thought PayPal were sorting it all
I will be back home tomorrow and do it all for you mate really sorry about the delay I've had lots of things to sort out
I can understand its alot of money I escalated the claim and added a note to paypal to give a refund don't worry
Thanks bud"

All well and good being hospitable but how hard can it be to process the refund??  Funnily enough PayPal is still showing that the status is showing "awaiting other parties response"...... C.

Examples like this is only why i buy more expensive items from "respected" members or those with a decent post count. Or collecting the item

I had to do a PayPal resolution the other week and basically if the other member doesn't respond to their questioning by the date stated you'll get a refund. With mine the tealeaf had to respond by Sept 2nd, he didn't and I got refunded on the 3rd.

Seems odd that he claims to have escalated a claim on your behalf, though. What's that all about?!

Paying with a normal PayPal payment, the receiver always pays the fees as well.

I wonder if he's playing for time and shifting money out of his bank account and or closing it.  PayPal will put a hold on the funds as soon as you make a claim, but if the money has already gone to his bank and he then closes it, Paypal NEVER foot the bill... They may put his account into a negative balance, they may not... Hopefully the former for you.

It could be simply he's spent some all. Of it and trying to get some time until he refunds you...

When is the date he has to officially respond by?
Did you pay via a PayPal balance or via credit card or attached bank account?

I'm still very confident you will receive your refund... But always pay the fees especially for something so expensive, you really wouldn't have had much chance of a refund if you had paid via gift... Only if paid via an attached credit card and you brought your CC company into it with a chargeback, still sketchy then.

I was actually thinking the same that he is playing for time to cash flow himself as he has probably spent it.

Response date is 10 days after I raised it so would be the 17th September so either he can respond or they will refund me I guess. I paid from credit card linked to my PayPal account so if needs be I can use that route of escalation as well.

Interesting that you found an address for him Rich......   :happy2:

If you used your credit card via paypal you WILL get the money back, all you need to do is contact your credit card company and they will charge back to paypal and refund you same if not next day, funnily enough doing this usually gets paypals butt in gear and they go after the money from the guy.

If you using paypal for a large purchase ALWAYS use your credit card (even if you have the money sat in paypal, withdraw it and then use that money to pay off the credit card) this way your protected.

Unless i am mistaken this was all done via the internet (there starts the problems) and you have never met the person who purports to be Ashley Khan . Until the details of the paypal are known and the bank account linked to that will give you a starter of the true identity , You google ashley khan and you get a female for starters  :innocent:

If details are easy to find on the internet be assured that is where scammers get their identities from

@OP, I'm pretty sure you can at this stage request the details of the seller from Paypal for contact purposes. :happy2:

Really?  I've had sellers details in the past, after disputes, not sure if this was through ebay or paypal, I can't remember.  Perhaps it was ebay...

Not Chaka Khan's brother? Or perhaps a double-barrelled surname Khan-Steele?

LMAO Great story that.

Had a similar thing once, my mate wanted a Discovery bullbar on ebay, he messaged the guy and came to a private price until the seller realised that was too cheap and asked for more than his ebay buy it now price. My mate took a stance and asked me to 'buy it now' on my account which I did. That evening I got a brilliantly elaborate and sincere email explaining of his joy that his item sold, but to then realise that some pikey stole it from his garden, so he had to issue a refund.
Minutes later my mate got an email asking if he still wanted it!

I think he just upgraded himself to all out thief as he has not responded to an email for 5 days now.

PayPal deadline in two days.

I f*ckin hate being ignored when people should just do the courteous thing and respond. A simple "yes I stole your money and used it to cash flow my next purchase" would suffice.

Just admit it you lying sh*te. Pretty pissed off now.
