Title: Powerloss and strange noise
Post by: M7AXB on September 10, 2013, 06:55:47 pm
Just wondering if someone can help before I book it in at falkland.

My car has massive power loss and makes a strange howl sounding noise at 1500-2000rpm.

Anyone know what could cause this?

Here's a video

Ruled out the DV, no rips or tears.
Runs rough when i remove the dipstick so guess the PCV is okay
No smoke or anything from the exhaust so hopefully not the turbo.

Can a worn cam follower cause this?

Not sure about the noise but recently I had MAJOR powerloss on my Ed30 and then discovered my engine mount bolts on the drivers side had snapped!

Now I've replaced the engine mount and bolts runs good as new :jumpmove: just an idea of something to check...

check a pipe hasn't blown off/split and get it scanned, I wouldn't be WOTing it with a noise like that.. had a turbo sound like that on an old SAAB before it let go.. oil sludge, starved turbo.  Can't think of any threads about blown k04s..

It's a turbo noise...it's picked up before the rpm has...get It checked...could be a pipe but would normally throw up a warning light

It's not smoking out the exhaust so hopefully turbo is fine.

It's been ever since I switched to the ITG, was fine with the twintake.  Now have the revo one and it's no better. Not sure whether is coincidence or not.

Surprised no one has had a similar fault, searched all the forums too and nothing similar.

Would VCDS help in diagnosing the issue? Got it coming tomorrow and wondering what to look for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would have thought so; first thing is to run a Auto scan, then make a copy of the errors, just save them as a plain txt file or such like... then clear the codes and run it again, to see if they return.  If they don't take it for a spin and rescan.

Paste the errors into this thread and you'll be one step closer to getting it sorted. :happy2:
