So what do you think ?
Thought the 5C might have been cheaper and the 64GB 5S is £700
Will i be upgrading my 4 , NO
-
The 5C should've been cheaper but when you look at the specs. it doesn't lack anything over the the current 5 (body aside) and not much less than the 5S - problem is, they couldn't really release something that was worse than the current 5, so the cost had to remain slightly elevated. Quite clever really, as I bet they make the new 5C cheaper than the current 5 and charge the same amount for it (taking into consideration each gen is still around and sold when a new model comes out).
The 5 camera is much better than the 4 though, and slightly better than the 4S imo. If your not bothered by that, then the 4 is still an excellent phone; which just got cheaper because of these new models. :happy2:
-
I have the 4S and am struggling to justify the jump to the 5/5S. The jump is nothing like the leap from 3GS to 4S.
-
Im still rocking an old skool 3GS, so will seriously be looking to upgrade, as its getting slow and tired. Be nice to have a decent camera option on a new phone and also have something tha doesnt take ages to load.
-
Meh. That is all
-
Had them all so far and the 64gb 4/S is the one for me - bought off this very forum!
-
Apple disappoint me more with every announcement
-
if you were thinking about 4S to 5.. i did that when the 5 came out.. wish i hadnt..
Thought the 4S was better built. the 5 was in my pocket with coins etc, just like the 4S but the 5 came off worst with scratches and marks on the metal band..
Will i be buying a 5S? probably.. but thats cos i'm a magpie and i love new and shiney sh*t...
-
Apple have disappointed me with lots of recent releases
-
I wrapped my 3GS in an Otterbox Defender case, and my 4S in a Griffin one - both had a plastic shell with a thick rubber outer casing, so damage isn't an issue.
Does mean that I need to reassess my contract because if I'm keeping my 4S, there's no point in paying a monthly charge. I am in need of a PAYG sim but one with either Orange or Vodafone as they're the only two that have a decent signal at work.

^^^^^^^hahahaaaa. Sooo true!^^^^^^^
Although the fingerprint non recognition annoying as fcuk function should be a laugh. Especially if you haven't got a 5S and are watching someone attempting to use it!

:signLOL:

Liked my Iphone 4, when time came to upgrade I did not fancy the Iphone 5 or 5S, very funny parody on Iphone but very true
-
Seems pricey for the cheap 5C version
-
2 and a half years on still using my 4 , still dont fancy upgrading to a newer model. The first time I have ever kept a phone after upgrade day!
-
Have really enjoyed the 5, looking forward to iOS 7 on the 18th. I think the 5S 120fps video will be a great feature, but I can't really justify upgrading just for that! This post over on gizmodo uk is a pretty interesting reason to keep buying apple though.

the quality on 5c is not apple lol
-
The 5C is fantastic quality. Have you actually played with one? The 3G and 3GS both had plastic rear shells.

I've just switched to a SIM only contract. I was paying £20-25/month but was out of contract. I wanted to cut costs so switched to a SIM only deal for £8/month (with Orange). It's only a 12 month contract too. If I'd have just upgraded and started a new 'normal' contract I'd be tied in for two years and still paying around £25 a month. With SIM only you have the flexibility to buy a new phone when it suits you, rather than when your contract dictates.

Same here with the 3GS, although I am in the process of getting a 4S. I've found the 3GS a bit slow recently and there's hardly any choice of covers for it these days, it won't take iOS 7 and I just want something a bit newer, although I'm not fussed on having the latest model. From what a lot of people have said the 4S is better than the 5 anyway.
I have the 4S and am struggling to justify the jump to the 5/5S. The jump is nothing like the leap from 3GS to 4S.
Glad to hear that!

^^^I've been considering doing the same. My 4S is still good and there's nothing that the 5 or 5S seem to have that will entice me to upgrade. Which plan did you go with? Data is more important to me than text or calls.

I've just switched to a 30 day SIM only contract £18.I was paying £47 a month but was out of contract.I wanted to cut costs so switched If I'd have just upgraded and started a new 'normal' contract I'd be tied in for two years and still paying around £35 a month plus. With SIM only you have the flexibility to buy a new phone when it suits me,as for the new iphones i cant see the point ive a 64gb iphone 5 in warranty until middle of next year

Yeah, I've got an iPhone 5, upgrading for that amount of cash just isn't worth it... one of the things that annoys me about Apple (as well as having to have iTunes) is the 16/32/64GB pricing, a mate just bought a ridiculously cheap (£7 p/m inc. handset) windows phone and whacked a £15 Class 10 64GB MSD card in there... Apple want 100's of pounds more just so they can solder it directly onto the PCB for you. :fighting:

500 mins, 500 texts, 30 photo messages and 350mb data for £8. Slightly different to what they advertise online but I just rang them up to see what they could do and that is what they offered, which is good enough for my needs. I negotiated the photo messages as I had them with my old plan. They were initially reluctant to let me keep them but didn't take much persuading LOL.
-
Do the photo messages get sent free over 3G/Wifi? Or do they charge for it? 350MB data is about double my last month's usage.
-
The 30 photo messages are free, sent over 3G I assume. But I've never been charged for them.
When I last upgraded 3 years ago it was the day before my birthday. I'd already agreed a talk plan with them and then asked if they could give me something extra for my birthday as I'd been a loyal customer for several years. The result was 30 free photo messages, which I've managed to carry over onto my new sim only contract.
The 350mb internet shows up as two lots on my bill for some reason. It comes up as 100mb free internet and 250mb mobile internet. Not sure why, but I definitely get 350mb, of which I never use more than half of.
-
It's intersting how they are seperating it out there, as MMS uses 3G afaik... I wonder if that's where your 100MB free comes in - however you could topple that with some decent sized images in your MMS's - if it works for you then who cares>? But just for sh!ts and giggles, I'd send out some hefty MMS's to test the theory.
-
Just use iMessage out of your 3G data.
-
But the person you're sending it to also needs an iPhone for that don't they? Otherwise it just gets sent as a normal MMS.

Tried WhatsApp? Cross platform and great for pics/video sharing

Yes, that is true.

Yep, but again you have to rely on the recipient having it. Not all of my main contacts have a smartphone. Hence me wanting free MMS in my contract

WhatsApp is great but as you said, depends on the recipient

i went from 3GS to 4S and thought even that was fairly pointless. certainly not worth the money. i'm due an upgrade now. i may not get a new phone at all, but if i do it won't be a iPhone

I've got a 4S currently and went to buy a 5S by queuing in line in Leicester on day of release. Arrived, waited, then was told the apple store was sold out 1/2hr before it opened.
Went home, considered it for a few days then ordered online with a random delivery date of "October".
Really thought about over the last day or two and have cancelled my order all together.
Sod em.
The whole bloody thing is a cartel. There is no shortage of 5S's - my local phone shop has them but "is not allowed" to sell them off contract. Only the apple store can sell the 5S at the moment as sim-free. I bet there is a right cartel between the mobile operators and Apple to make people take STUPID mobile phone monthly contracts - c.£40-50 a month!!
I just rang Three and renewed my One Plan as a sim-only for £15/month, 12 month contract. So much cheaper even if I had decided to buy a 5S.
I'll wait for the 6 now. I just really hope they do something special with the next one. I'd love it to be able to take 2 sims (so I can ditch my work BB), have the ability to make contactless payments (just like my bank cards do) incorporating the new fingerprint scanner, have a better battery life etc.
After having spent money on apps in the app store, I'm reluctant to use another platform - I had a Galaxy S3 for work and it was awful. Phone too physically big and the quality of the apps was no where near as good as the app store alternatives.
And when you think that iPhone is the defacto platform for new gadget compatibility (as the hardware that runs it is a known quantity), I will stick with Apple.
-
Carphone warehouse are selling them sim free. As are plenty of other places if you look around.

Interesting - I asked in a Three shop as well as phones4u and they weren't. I wonder if it was for a limited time at launch?

that's how they trap you tho - i had a policy that for as long as Apple did not allow Adobe to release Flash on the iPhone I wouldn't pay for apps - and in 4 years of ownership i never have done. you've just made me realise that that may have been a wise thing to do for precisely the reason you've highlighted. i stand nothing to lose by moving to another manufacturer.

It's no different from being tied to Goggle Play Store. Except you have a choice of Android handsets. It still rewards the loyalty to the ecosystem.
But Apple are evil and mean and make you buy apps if you have an iPhone???
