Title: Wheel cleaner
Post by: George10 on September 12, 2013, 09:06:35 pm
I've recently bought some new wheels which have machines faces, some of the wheel sprays/ cleaners say not use on polished face.. Does anyone reccomend a product?
Would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks

+1 for iron x, its good stuff. I have no experience of using it on polished wheels though.

Dont forget Iron x or any iron removal product is not actually a wheel cleaner. They are an iron contamination removal product.

The plan is to clean and seal the wheels - then only clean them with regular shampoo.  Ive never touched my wheels since theyve been on (3 moths+) with either iron x or a wheel cleaner..

I've only used ironx on a new purchase of wheels or if you buy a car ...as above I only clean usually with shampoo as I don't leave it long between washes ...I use autobrite wheel cleaner only through winter if it's been really bad weather and been a couple of weeks between cleans ...

They've been sealed and are regularly washed using shampoo. I'll just leave a wheel cleaner then. The wheels are coming off soon as the salt/grit on the roads will ruin them.

Once you've got them sealed properly you should never need to use a wheel cleaner, most of the crud on mine comes off when I pressure wash them (at a safe distance of course ) then I just use a sponge or mitt with normal shampoo.

They're coming off soon anyway, just thought it would be handle for a cleaner :)
Thanks for all your comments  :happy2:

Chemical guys Diablo, I've used it for a couple of years now on polished dishes with no problems.

+1 I've just switched to this as my very cherry ran out, it's very good - my wheels are sealed but I still give it a light spritze of revolution, it's almost a touch-less-wash on the wheels (using a power washer)

This

I've started using AutoSmart Smart Wheels. I think AS recommend a dilution ratio of 1:3 but I use it at 1:10 with good results. At that dilution, it's LSP safe too (at least IME).

Poorboys wheel sealant is not very good at all.
The durability is very poor.
The only plus is that it smells nice.. which when using a product for a job isn't what I look for.

FK1000p or Collinite 476s are far, far better choices and £ for lb, cheaper.

IME Fk1000p is a really really excellent sealant.

476s is very durable but I don't think it's heat resistant and I stopped using it on wheels after it started to yellow. I thought the lacquer had discoloured but normal service resumed after they were stripped back and resealed.

I use it on my polished lips with no problem.
I will try to spot any yellowing that you mention but this could be polishing oils or other residues under the surface of your wax.

Thanks for sharing info though  :happy2:

I'm pretty sure it was heat related as the yellowing was mostly around the centre of the wheels and not apparent towards the outer edges.

Wax-tec fallout V2 I would recommend only £8 for 500ml bottle smells great and is the best iron removal product I have used. Once sealed then last awhile I only ever then need to use a more neutral balanced wheel cleaner if they become a little too dirty between washes.

Bilberry Wheel Cleaner is amazing. Diluted right down it's very effective and works brilliantly.

+1 for this. Works out to be pretty cost effective too as it's relatively cheap to start with, plus as above you can dilute it down and it still works a treat!

Bilberry and Iron-X over here. Does the job a treat. Just don't let the Iron-X dry out!
