Morning guys, I am after your knowledge and wisdom in the area of fitting a genuine VW gti bumper to my tdi
When it comes to anything like this I am bleddy awful! 2 left hands, no patience and normally the incorrect tools!!!!
I have gen vw gti bumper inc splitter and fixing brackets
I have gen vw gti grills (gti badge removed as mine is not a gti!)
I have corner mouldings (non headlight washer version) currently being sprayed
What I don't have,
All the correct screws for fixing the grills to the bumper, can anyone tell me what screws and how many are required?
Gti fog lights, retro fitting these (from what I have read) is an absolute mare? Advice really, do I just buy gti fogs and fit them but not connect them? Can you buy gti grills without the fog holes? Do the gt sport (minus fog holes) fit the gti bumper?
I realise that it's best to change the carrier for the fit to be correct, I've spent a fortune now so was planning on chopping the centre with a trusty dremmel to fit. Is this ok and will it present me with any issues in the future? (I.e. towing eye? Securing the bumper/grills?)
Look forward to your replies
Sparky

Use your existing screws. There may be one or two missing/extra but by then it will be secured.
No problem cutting the bumper, it is the most cost effective way and hidden. I had no issue getting to the towing eye.
I got cheapo GTI (later GT and Jetta same) fogs and split the fronts off, used my old rears and made a new set that fit perfect and utilised the existing plug.

Existing screws for fixing the main bumper but what about the screws for fixing the grills to the bumper? 1 in each fog grill? A couple under the number plate area for the centre grill?
Thanks for the cutting/towing eye advice
Trouble is my tdi doesn't have fogs originally!

I see, if you go into VW they can pull up a diagram and supply all new torx screws etc for a few quid.
In terms of retrofitting fogs that is a bigger task to get it working through your car electrics, but there are guides on the internet if you have a search.

Thanks skard
Have read a few reto fit fog guides and really don't have the cash/knowledge/experience for it! Will prob just fit the fogs but not connect them!

You'll need to whip them out for the MOT then as they have to work if fitted.
You can install them through a standard 'fog wiring kit' to a switch in the cabin somewhere, kit is a tenner and all it needs is a power feed and ground.
You can get aftermarket grilles without fog cutouts too.

Gti grills without fog cut outs? Can't find them any where!

All i did for the extra screws for the grilles was go to halfords, get some self tappers and speed clips and use them, Cheaper than the dealers and does the same job
Also for the fogs keep a lookout on ebay, genuine ones come up for peanuts, I payed £20 for a genuine second hand pair.

Cheers Andy, any particular size? Did you already have fog lights fitted or did you retrofit?
-
I just got a pack that fit the best, I already had foglights in my original bumper so it was just a case of swapping them over.

Do the standard fogs from a tdi 54plate fit the GTI grill.
