As above mines all sagging down on edges and won't hold up without tape!!
Thinking it would look a lot tidier just binning it off or replacing it.
Any reason why it can't be there?
Will replace if its needed!

I don't think it makes a difference but would be interested to hear what others have to say
-
When it rains you'll see steam coming from your bonnet
-
It will probably look like sh1t underneath the sound deadening. Possibly wont be painted all the way to the middle...
-
The only problem is vw don't bother painting under the bonnet/bay anymore ...on pre 2005 cars you could polish and it would come up like bodywork ..but now it's flat like they didn't bother with clearcoat..

well thats alot of tripe. I've removed mine on a 2008 car and polish it due to it being a full painted surface. Looksmuch better without it IMO. Lets a little morte intake noise out.... :P
-
I removed mine...didn't notice any diff...nothing even slightly disastrous ever resulted by it either.
-
Ive tried to do both mine 57plate and the jetta we have on 56 plate and yes you can polish but it is still flat ...it's well known that vw stopped painting to a high finish under bonnets ..passat b6 is the same too ..compared to the previous passat b5.5 which with a little polish shines just as good as bodywork

Mine looked great too...just a good wash and shine...Bam!

It's just a teeny bit of noise insulation.
-

-
Maybe they painted the gti's better ??

Possible, It definitely comes up nice when cleaned so I'd say it is on GTI's atleast
-
On a 56 plate FSI, and when I had it, there was no insulation.. Whether that is standard or not, I have no clue. Polishes up well though. :happy2:
-
mines a 55 plate and i took mine off and it was the finish underneath is as good as the outer paintwork
-
Removed this on my old car, definitely steams more in the winter, lol.

Mines full painted as well Not polished it yet :signLOL:

Sounds like I need to investigate wether mines painted then! 56 plate eddy.
Not sure if I like the sound of steaming lol.
Any idea how much a new one is from stealers? Any part numbers?
Just looks so scruffy under there hanging down.
-
Interesting to hear about the steaming - must admit, I removed the insulation on my old mkiv and it did steam off the bonnet in cool conditions. Never connected the two...
Still, much prefer the cleaner look without the insulation, and this was on my list of 'to-do' jobs...
-
Roughly £50 including clips, Ive never had steam and its been tanking down recently!
-
my mates edition 30 was painted underneath and was probably cleaner than the top side of the bonnet lol
-
Just to put this topic to bed, on my Mk5 GTI 2005 - Barely clean aswell
