Title: guide how to make your own 90mm intake
Post by: cuprajake on September 16, 2013, 06:38:17 pm
how to make your own 90mm custom intake

before I even got the k1 I had been looking at the tuning aspect, and realising these cars are bloody expensive, im not the type to pay £400 for an intake, no matter how nice it looks,

so heres your shopping list:

1x70>90mm silicone hose
2x90mm 90degree silicone hoses
1xmetre 90mm alloy pipe
5x80>100 jubilee clips
1x60>80 jubilee clips
Metal rod
Air filter of choice

Tools:
Air saw
Dremel/air grinder
Sanding wheel

Heres how to do it:

The scary bit is cutting your engine cover, once you have this in hand you’ll see how and were to cut, you basically need the maf pipe, don’t forget take the maf sensor out before doing any cutting as they are fragile!!!! You have been warned

You want to get the oval maf pipe to the stage were the coupler fits on,

Next you need a piece of alloy pipe 10.5” long, fit this into the coupler and then onto one of the elbows,

The next pipe is 6.5” long and has the other elbow and filter on it (I chose a ramair filter which can flow over 400bhp)

I then made a couple of brackets out of the steel bar, to hold everything in place, and cut my engine cover to suit,

Heres how it all looks now

Very good matey, I like the thoughts that you made your own, I had played on the idea for awhile.
Went with the revo one in the end...

Did you do a before dyno run to test your craftsmanship out after?

Looks good,
I was of the same opinion with the price of intakes so i bought one off ebay for £50 and fitted a better filter on.

what diameter is the turbo pipe, just thinking about getting a silicone hose from the turbo and not having to butcher the maf housing so I can reuse the engine cover if I need to.

£66+VAT so £79.99, reducers are about £20-£30. Really good intake just been mapped stage 2 with it

Filters are rated to air flow, the ram air one i had is rated to 400bhp,

the rcm one will be a fortune,

you can buy green air filters or bmc which the lcr mk1 guys used but they will restrict the flow higher up the rev range,

the car will only take as much air as it can
Title: Re: guide how to make your own 90mm intake
Post by: Scooby mic on March 21, 2014, 02:20:12 pm
Yeah got a few already buddy
Yes I know there rated but think this is on a 850 hp subi but seen them on 350 hp scoobs and all the way inbetween once the cars maf less
So all I wanted to know was if vw mags can handle high flow or do they go pop like the subi aquivalent ?
