Title: Colour Coding done!B12 Kit Fitted. Photos
Post by: micaerin on September 18, 2013, 12:11:11 pm
Just picked the car up after having the colour coding done, i went for the gloss black lower insert on standard GTI bumper. I think it looks really good. Next is to have the front Sprayed as i have quite a few stone chips. I agree, looks a lot better than the unpainted bumper. Don't know why they didn't paint them in the first place they look like they've came out the factory half finished.   Nice looking car bud :happy2:

Really like this, i want to do it to mine.

How much did it cost? Did you use all the standard bumpers, if so did it leave the paint work plasticy and scratchy or was it glossy smooth and bounced the sun back like the rest of the body?

£300 all smoothed and painted quite a bit of prep work to get smooth,  all standard bumpers, but I'm very happy with the results. I'm getting the bonnet resprayed and wings blended in later this month.

Bonnet was really bad. it had been sprayed before with moisture under the paint so it looked like loads of stone chips

Good stuff, I've got a grey mk5 Gti and need some new springs but can't decide wether to go for eibach or the 20mm APs

Can the standard dampers handle lowering springs, or does it put too much pressure on them?
Title: Re: Colour Coding done!Engine bay clean up. Photos
Post by: micaerin on October 30, 2013, 11:58:46 pm
Ive been told sportlines are fine with standard dampers, but i've decided to change mine whilst springs are getting changed, ive gone for the Billstein B8 Sprint Dampers with these sportline springs, basically a B12 sportline kit.
Title: Re: Colour Coding done!Engine bay clean up. Photos
Post by: ThomWalker on October 31, 2013, 12:14:02 am
I want to lower mine fairly cheaply. To avoid cheap and cheerful coilovers; thinking I might go with Eibach Sportlines with the standard dampers.

Is this something you could recommend?

Might put this out to everyone, get some opinions.

p.s. Steel Grey - All the Way! yours looks really nice. The effort you have put in has paid off.

Have you got the eibach kit on now...??

Well I've now got all the parts ready for the install this Friday. what started out as a cheap mod with some lowering springs has escalated into a full suspension overhaul. wanted to get all the parts so that i can keep old oem struts complete to make it easier to put back to stock when i sell the car in the future. I will post more pictures of the car once installed.

Wheels look in good order, have you had them refurbed, mine are starting to show signs of lacquer peel

Not so good close up mate, a few marks, but they are Reps which i got from a member on here.
the suspension should settle a bit but I'm happy with the look so far. Just need to take her for a drive! :driver:

Well just back from a spirited Sunday morning drive, and I can say WOW what a difference. yes it is firmer but not so much to worry me or the wife, the later being most important, but it just feels so tight turning in and going round a roundabout with a bit of speed. i will see how it beds in over the next few weeks and update my opinion then.

Sounds like an ideal upgrade - is this with standard bushes or upgraded items ?

What bushes do you mean?  i already had front wishbone bushes front and rear replaced with polybushes.
