Post by: Jap4447 on September 19, 2013, 11:37:17 pm
Anybody know how to get rid of the stinking smell coming for the aircon or air vents?

Change your pollen filter and also buy a 'bomb' from Halfords or somewhere. It's kind of fun using them.

It's strange because Iv had a similar smell on all my vw's. Iv tried changing the pollen filter and the bomb but it always comes back. Worse when it's rained or been left a few days.

As above.
But I had the same problem on a previous car and ended up taking it to an Aircon specialist. They used an 'Industrial Strength' cleaner and anti bacterial stuff. That did it!

If you haven't had an air con service in 2 years or more, get one done at a decent place and they will include an antibacterial treatment . This might do a more long term fix than "the bomb".

I had this when I first got ours, tried the pollen filter and bomb which worked briefly but soon came back. A regass and clean by a local garage cured the problem and that has been over 4 months now. So if happy to pay for full works, I'd go straight for that.

In the past, I've tried a combination of new pollen filter + aircon bomb + switching off aircon towards the end of a drive (but leave the blowers on). They work for about a month. Alex@AKS sprayed some disinfectant in somewhere where the pollen filter goes and it's been fine since.

Had this problem in my old Type R, stuck a bomb in there and it was fine.
