In particular the 1.6 turbo engine.
A colleague of mine has one of these and is experiencing some power issues. ..or rather a lack of it.
I thought it might be the french equivalent of the waste valve diaphragm problem mk5's suffer from but she says after giving it some revs the power returned.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what might be a cause?

My old Pug 306 had power loss issues and hunting whilst idling. I never got to the bottom of it on that car, but I didn't really dig too deep. A similar thing happened on my old 2.0l MK4 GTi Golf. That turned out to be the HT leads and the coilpack. I am assuming all car engines are roughly similar, so maybe check out those items.
It would be a big issue when the engine was cold, or it was wet weather. If the engine was warm then it would be alright. I don't know if this is exactly what she is experiencing.

If it is the 1.6 HDi then they have major problems with the DPF regeneration. Is there any warnings on the dash or the MFD screen?
There are some decent Pug forums too with a lot of info.

Petrol or diesel?

It's a 1.6 THP Petrol.
I've had a look around the web and found some very scary stories about timing chains and hydraulic tensioners giving up and destroying the engines :scared: for which there seems to be no known cure!
To be more elaborate...she said that she noticed this last Saturday...she felt that when she tried to accelerate, the car just lacked it's usual power-it just felt like a standard 1.6 without the turbo,so I figured that it sounded like a lack of boost pressure, which immediatly made me think if the dump valve or that a hose had split but then she told me that she had revved it a couple of times outside her house and the car seemed to come back to life.
Now I think it might have been the o2 sensor getting a bit coked and the revving of the engine clearing it.
I've advised her to get it to a garage and get it looked at,but it's getting MOT'D soon anyway so shes going to ask the garage to check it out then.

Same engine as the MINI Cooper S then? Have you had a browse of MINI forums to see if the same symptoms have been reported?

These get choked up as well so a good Italian tune up may help

Aye a good Italian tune-up tends to help these engines

I take it an Italian tune up means taking it out for a good 'spirited' drive and not shoving meatballs up the exhaust pipe?

Certainly does, rag it up a national speed limit road in a gear or two less than normal for 5-10 minutes or so.

I know something about Peugeots. They've been SH1T since the 205 GTi & 306 Rallye.
