Hello
First time poster. Long time follower.
My Mk5 GTI was featured on Fifth Gear last night on the Discovery channel. Jason Plato was highlight cheaper alternatives to the GT86.
It was filmed back in March. JP was very impressed how the car drove considering it has 60k on the clock.
Any how a couple of pictures

Nice one. But did you have any tyres left at the end?!
-
Shame won't let me watch on ipad do they pay you or detail car before and after allowance for new rubber etc
-
great episode, cheers, 5th gear really does make top gear seem like loose women

s23 e02.. nzb ftw :happy2:
-
One of my friends son works for the production company and asked if they could use my car for the day.
I got expenses for the fuel. Not for the rubber.
The mpg on the trip computer had dramatically dropped after JP had driven it.
-
Episode 2. Current series.
-
Saw it air the first showing...really pleased on its showing too :drinking:
-
Your GTI was looking mint mate, well done :drinking:
-
I had the wheels refurbed a month ago. I had the inserts re-instated so now the car is back to its original state. It's looking really good.
-
Looks great. I've had my MK5 since new (over 7 years) and it's still tight as a drum. I just wish the front arch wasn't bloody rusting. :scared:
Good to see they still get good reviews.
-
They get to trash your car a little just for fuel vouchers...
-
Awesome stuff :happy2:
Nice to say that JP has given your car a good run too :driver:
-
Not a chance in hell would i off donated my gti for the day to be thrashed round a track :stupid:,fifth gear could easily of sourced a car from vw uk rather than use someones pride and joy, then to only offer fuel vouchers, wot about tyres poor to say the least.

I agree ^
Must have taken you for a bit of a mug
I'd have wanted my fuel covered + a full tank plus £300 for tyres for them to rag it sh*tless around a track.
-
Who said anything about being trashed or a track. The car was well looked after nothing I wouldn't do. And it was driven on the road.
Tbh the fuel or expenses don't really bother me.
-
I saw the clip.
It was driven on the road. But I doubt it was driven gentley.
Your car after all mate. It's more the fame then? :P
-
Nice one bud , wouldn't have bothered me if JP was ragging my car as long it wasn't getting abused. At the end of the day cars are meant for driving. :driver::happy2:
-
Good stuff , I started a thread on Random Chat about this just after it was on , was good to see JP give the Mk5 a good review! :happy2:
-
Congrats getting your car on TV! I havent managed to watch it, as all those download sites seemed to want me to install exe files and/or provide card details!
To those saying they wouldn't let someone else drive their car like that....unless you've had your car from new there's a good chance it already has been!
-
I'd like to watch it but the file downloads are suspicious, to say the least. The website looks professional, but says "intergrated" instead of integrated. Didn't they give you a DVD you can post on YouTube?
-
Here you go:

The guy in the beanie in the thumbnail of that video..
what a plonka he is. :ashamed:
-
Cheers Tortaruga. Surprised they didnt mention rusting wheel arches as one of the things to look out for!
-
and sills, corroded wheels, badges, cam follower, coil packs, throttle bodies...

Johnny Smith? Seems like a perfectly nice bloke to me, far worse on TV.
-
I don't know how him real life but I was referring to him on the TV.
-
gonna watch that later
-
Just saw it, car looked mint, but coulda washed the engine bay ;-)
And what was he on about the Turbo valve being under the cover at the front!? It's not an edition... Poor research 5th gear...

Exactly my thoughts too.. I thought, ahh well they've probably ragged it around and left the engine bay looking dirty on Anglesey... and the DV in the engine bay, must have researched K04 :signLOL:
Regarding JS, seems to balance out the 5th gear arrangement with the current/ex drivers on there, taking the side of GREEN issues more often than not... what happened to the big curly haired guy btw? TBF, 5th gear ticks more boxes for the petrol head than TG... but I'll watch both, cos they're FREE  :happy2:
hiccup, mofo hiccup.

her face at 29.10 - love it....

And what does people think of Red-x on modern day cars? worth a £5 to try clean the injectors?

And what does people think of Red-x on modern day cars? worth a £5 to try clean the injectors?
Not sure, it did seem to make a decent amount of difference for the VR6 though - as long as it doesn't harm, it's worth a punt at £5.
I might do a back to back test with the VCDS dyno, as long as no one has a genuine reason not to use it on TFSI..?

I doubt it does any harm , I use the 'One Shot' little bottles of Redex Injector Cleaner every now and then when I remember and its never done either of my GTIs any harm as far as I can tell!

Well on direct injection engines they don't really do much but hey up to you. I suspect a new fuel filter would have achieved the same gain.
-
What pressure valve is he referring too? PCV?
-
I think he is talking about the DV
-
That episode is back on now on Discovery Turbo ch 524
-
I think he is talking about the DV
Which is why he should have have called it by it's correct name!
-
what is going on with the steering wheel in that mx5!?!
