Title: LED rear number plate lights
Post by: Leebo310 on September 24, 2013, 02:58:09 pm
Did this mod on my old TT and thought it looked awesome so want to do the same on the Golf.
Can any helpful soul give me a link as to which bulbs I need to get? The TT needed some error free CANBUS jobs so was wondering if the Golf was the same?

Cheers

Yeah I'd be looking to fit just the bulbs rather than buying the whole kit.
How hard is it to get the lights actually out? I think on the TT it was just careful prising out using a screw driver and extreme care not to break the clips!

You wanna change just the bulbs or the whole unit?

There simple mate just unscrew the bulb casing then ease out the unit with a flat head. You got bulbs or looking for some? LED or SMD :happy2:

Cheers mate, sounds the same as the TT then!
Just checked and bought smd ones for the TT so would probably go with the samefor the Golf.
Not that bright but the light was very pure and white.
Found some on fleabay for £2.99 inc postage for 2 so that's the sort of cost I like

The cheap bulbs can cause you no end of problems
Buy whole replacement units in my opinion having had the bulbs (which were "error free") cause my sidelights to not work and the number plate lights themselves to not light up unless I turned the lights off and then on again.

Sounds like you had a duff set though mate, like I said I used similar bulbs on our TT with no problems whatsoever.

Tried 3 sets from different suppliers.
The first 2 pairs, bulbs blew after a few months (no error code on dash.. thanks resistors) and third pair  gave the odd errors.

I'd always recommend buying the replacement units. It's the cost of a cheap evening at a pub (£20) so what's the dealio.  :happy2:

I bought the ones from xenons4u

Ebay id 270780660155

I had the cheapy bulbs before and they kept on flickering and weren't really that bright.

Fair point mate. I've ordered a set of the bulbs anyway as for £3 I figure it was worth a gamble! If they don't work or give me errors then I'll just buy the proper units but I'll at leasttry the bulbs first.

Bulbs fitted today and no flickering or any extra lights on the dash so far!
