Title: JPC's Soot Chucker! ;)
Post by: JPC on December 02, 2008, 01:56:00 pm
Hi guys, i thought i best get some pictures up here!
Well Here is my soot chucker. it was delivered on the 27th Nov 2008.
Brand new 3dr 170 GT Sport, with leather, dual zone climate, ipod prep with arm rest. to be honest, the car isnt as well spec'd as i'd like it. I bought it after VW were taking orders for custom mk5s. Bit of a shame but i am more than happy with the car given the circumstances. It was the last 3 door with leather with 170bhp. So the "unchange-able" bits are all there! ;)

Here it is exactly how i picked it up! :)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F1%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=ad80a6b7af1fbc129b34b0145fc74d4a55a0c9ab)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F2%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=c0bd630440ced30d6ccb27a8ca2634e4aba2bccd)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F3%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=8fc4d486ce137410d38a97e1f3a200281cc7f999)

12 miles on the clock! :)

So then the first thing to do was change the alloys, the 17" Classix were just a bit too boring!

on Went Some Genuine Brand new (still had barcodes on the spokes) R32 Alloys. I picked these up from a VW Dealer last week.

Also i swapped all the lower grills to GTI honeycomb ones. I went for the open grills too.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F4%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=434368bbad6d873f410e76e52273662fdd61589b)
Sorry about the focus, i think i needed to wipe my lense!

Next was onto the ED30 Rear lights. A must do mod in my opinion to be honest!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F5%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=3b5be2a83d1e8df60fc79696172ec4acf707014c)
One light out

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F6%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=229d23e092312782a8dcb231124addc3c42e4405)
both outer lights done

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F7%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=65c3688ba0756e75e18fa425c4e598a506be0d1b)

all rear lights done! ;)

Next was install some genuine Xenons!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F9%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=02701a00563156d54cabb32e57b647926a84576a)

Here they are installed. but guess what, kufatec sent the wrong adaptor cables! great! they were from a mk4. still awaiting delivery of the correct ones! ;)

The next day the car went to a body shop to have R32 Brakes installed. they were no doubt the best mod so far!

heres the car on the ramp

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F888%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=be4f31b943e50ee86910564418a3868bfac53513)

and the finished brakes

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F10%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=b570e28ca0fe79e3f6c9c521aad6684ab0987c4e)

Also at the bodyshop i got a Genuine Edition 30 Front splitter along with brand new genuine GTI side skirts and rear bumper. I got these all painted too.

here is a pic of the front splitter

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F55%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=21f10dc7b3b3d845cb29f25164faf06481d63e66)

Ill get some better pics when i detail the car, keep checking back! ;)

then i swapped the upper grill for a GTI one, I dropped off the I as obviously its not a GTI. So it says GT now.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2F66%2520%28Large%29.JPG&hash=c56004227273eefc7cb1f5001ed256fc8adf934c)

Thats it now guys and girls! :) thanks

as said before i just look for the ebay ads with r32s being broken etc. i went to look at the brakes and lights expecting lugs to be broken etc and parts of the brakes missing but i was pleasantly surprised! the lights were all wrapped up and looked mint. the brake has been properly taken off too!

no mate. I am also aware of this being a very heated debate and there seems to be a lot of very strong opinions about it. i am fine with that as i have my opinions on the matter! :)

i have had my anni for two years. that has projector xenons and i have never been flashed, i have never failed an MOT and it doesnt have washers or levelers. you can go on all day about what ifs and theorise, such as if you cause a crash they could find you have not fitted blah blah. but whilst all that is being said, what about all the people who mod their car and dont declare them. no insurance payout for them if they get caught.

maybe i could have put that better, but at 11.45 im not guna try again! haha

i must admit i am not a fan of the HID kit in a non projector lense. its just wrong, but ETTO! the OEM bulbs in there look to be 4300k, which is about right! ;)
Title: Re: JPC's Soot Chucker! ;)
Post by: JPC on December 10, 2008, 10:48:05 am
Yeah looks distinctive, a wee bit purple

if you put a 4300k in there youd be amazed at how much better they are. there is no way to get a bulb to 12000k without severly cropping the light output. they use alsorts of sh1te to make them purple. all it does is dim the lights.

you never shat yourself on a wet dark road?

Bit of an update, interior mods really, so get away from the stock boring look

i didnt take a photo before i touched the interior, shame!

Heres a list of what ive done, these were all brand new parts by the way,

GTi Pedals
GTi Steeringwheel with MF buttons (GT badge on there dont worry)
GTi Gear knob
RNS-510 Head Unit with touch screen
Genuine Vw Alu Trim, miles better than the black IMHO.

This is the first interior pic i have. here you can see the GTi Pedals and Silver trim.
Boring Steering wheel, Boring gear knob, Boring Head unit

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.j8ypc.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%282%29.jpg&hash=83f31053bc32617f0b7f2ca15b2226e47c893169)

That wheel had to go, its just boring and no buttons!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.j8ypc.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%283%29.jpg&hash=5af1871d5244dd8806a1122aa9ce50a527e0fe2d)

so on went this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi24.ebayimg.com%2F04%2Fi%2F001%2F1b%2Fb8%2F26c7_3.JPG&hash=c8cd9bc900e03a60bd1789fb4dc89dd3ffaae75a)

I also need a steering wheel controller for it, so £161 pounds later i had the controller from VW.

the steeringwheel probably cost me about £420 in all

So next up was the RNS-510., ive wanted one of these since before owning a mk5, i think there great. i managed to get a brand new one for less than a grand so bought one.

old rcd300 out! YESS!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%284%29.jpg&hash=fdcb3fc8115b5be5c58ef2a250896ac3581ddd63)

clocks out to thread the Sat nav reciever wire behind it, you can just see the wire before i secured it behind there.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%285%29.jpg&hash=9b1e3177e1ea95807ad9b65cd8e32ee74c902b7e)

and now here is the finished item (for now!) the gear knob install took 2 mins so no pics! lol you all know what they look like!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%288%29.jpg&hash=d65c056632e194f406851589e37c795a8fe39bd8)

some more pics of the rns

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%286%29.jpg&hash=bdb8d696a982620e6da109a8df3f87287220c5b9)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%287%29.jpg&hash=ff387c993c5769efaa1f1dbf84bf63b23dcdbeec)

Also i added my seat inserts! ;)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%289%29.jpg&hash=2e08655d0438f5b2dd11df10a4e94f7e71a9146f)

changed the TDI badges!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmk5golfgti%2Finterior%2520mods%2520%2810%29.jpg&hash=6de6575585ca8e886b40f76daedcafdf2683bf68)

Next up is highline clocks! that should be pretty simple, but my clocks are on back order at the moment, and its looking like costing £500 quid. i need to have the clocks done at VW too. i cant install them. Ive managed to wangle them down to £75 for installation which is reasonable. although, if i have VAS, it would take me 10 minutes, not an hour! haha

I have also got the FISCON BASIC- Plus BLuetooth kit from Kufatec. ill be installing that next week.

the next thing now for my car is a FULL Detail!

oh and on wednesday its into awesome for lowering! ;)

i know mate, its getting silly! haha! thing is tho, thats how i want my car, i use it a lot and it want it exactly how i want it!

its not like im the kind to spend a fortune then sell it 6 months later. ill hopefully have it for 2 years or so.

the reason im doing so much is because i didnt spec the car myself, it was spec'd by someone else, then i bought it. i got 4k ish off the list price so i went for it.

i would have had highline, rns510, xenons from factory but i arrived at VW after they had stopped orders for mk5s!

That's fair enough, again I've had my car since new, that's three- or four-odd years now, so I understand exactly where you're coming from... I probably spend a considerable portion of my life in my car and like you I want it exactly want it :)

Let us know how the FISCON unit goes, includes that fancy display of engine params
I assume the ipod can connect directly to the 510? wanted a combined handsfree/ipod solution

nice one  :happy2:
Title: Re: JPC's Soot Chucker! ;)
Post by: JPC on January 21, 2009, 11:45:07 am
thanks guys.

@ john_o ill let you know how it goes. the Fiscon Unit uses the MDI port on the RNS. there is only one and i think the ipod connection uses that too. i do have an ipod in my car but i find it redundant now! the hard drive and SD feature rules out the ipod now. I only use the iPod in the gym/my bedroom amp now. which is great to be honest.

You can get the Skoda Bluetooth but as far as i am aware, the functionality is reduced from the FISCON. no fancy displays im lead to believe. the advantage of this, is it doesnt use the MDI slot. so you can run an ipod and the skoda bluetooth on the same unit.
i did consider the SKoda one, but i ruled it out because im happy with the HDD/SD for my music! ;)

I was talking to Andrew(Norbreck21a) and we was on about asking you if you wanted to do a little golf meet some time?  I dont know if your unit will accomadate a small meet but it would be nice to meet some of the faces on here with out having to travel down south.

Hi JPC,

Few quick questions if you don't mind.

I have the MFSW mod completed but havent been able to come across the right part number for the Highline Display. Do you have details of the one you put in? I've started the the same basic spec as you with the standard wheel and midline display btw.

You have sportline lowering springs installed, correct? Are these done with the standard shocks still in or did you upgrade those too? Do the standard shocks wear out quicker with lowering springs? What is the ride comfort like?

Any quick recommendations on polishing and waxing a Blue Graphite GT? Already have AG HD wax and Collinite 476's in the collection. Have yet to upgrade to a polisher. Thinking about a DA as i'm a novice but a rotary seems to be the way to go on hard VAG paint. Suggestions?

Gorgeous car btw. The best looking gt i've seen by far

Regards
Colin W

bollocks, you just tried putting over 300 LB/FT torque on the tarmac by pulling the clutch out at 3k on the strip! you just span the wheels up.

dont forget it had winter tyres on. When you said the turbo started working, thats when you had the grip! lol

Some more updates.

Car is now wearing some Zymol Vintage.

Hopefully i will put some of my Zymol Royale on, but im still split on that!

I will leave it a while i think and not strip it off for the sake of putting the Royale on.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fforum%2Fj8ypc%2FIMG_4705sm.jpg&hash=3c2a0b5f08ed3d48518ff1b0c22fe755b5c4656d)

Now i bought some 3M DI-Noc Carbon fibre vinyl ages ago but i only just summed up the courage to wrap my grill. It had been needing doing for ages, it was pepper'd with stone chips!

here it is before, not the best pic...

And here it looks now

How much do you estimate you'd need to do the grill and wing mirrors?

Was it easy?

Wouldnt put that stuff on the wing mirrors Andrew. Its great on smooth, flat painted surfaces, but when highly stretched, (Which you would need to do on the mirror covers) it will shrink back and start to peel away and reveal the colour your trying to cover.

Mirrors are best done in Gloss black to match the door shuts or some Real carbon effect covers.

Jay, that really looks great on a Black car. Better then i thought.

Well done chap  :happy2:

Not sure about the steering wheel but love the rest of the car. Why did you go for an ED30 interior? The leather seats were awesome when I sat in them.

Thanks Phil, that's good advice.

I really like the way you and some others have created a bit of contrast matching the wing mirrors to the grill surround, but on a black car like mine there doesn't seem to be too many options. I like the OSIR matt carbon surrounds but I'm guessing they're pricey? Any other options that anyone has seen?

Hello there fellow golf enthusiast people!

Here today i present to you....an Update on my diesel! ;)

haha! I didnt have anyone booked at Miglior today Due to a cancellation last night! So i had a nice lie in today, then i did a few write ups, a bit of web stuff and put my CH back on my steed!

Had a great day, and the sunshine topped it off!

Anyways...a few pictures of my car!!

Spot the car......

Back with the 19s on and fresh rubber! contisport contact 3s, which i do like! 235/35/19. i was going to go with 225 width but didnt want a ride that was too crashy.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fforum%2Fj8ypc%2FIMG_5765sm.jpg&hash=783c2e597c2e2b6763c5f6f865958f1f0805b343)

Now all i need to decide on is...

Chrome Centre caps..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fforum%2Fj8ypc%2FIMG_5771sm.jpg&hash=7b7f151f65be653c78bd78216889a98416f19c95)

Or the Common/standard/Classic Black Centres

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miglior.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fforum%2Fj8ypc%2FIMG_5772sm.jpg&hash=c47eae86924facdbe0ee1bc75975b873fd7f04bf)
