Post by: Pmcdonald1000 on October 07, 2013, 07:33:27 pm
I've got an 06' gti and I've got the basic head unit fitted at the min, where is the best place to get a new touchscreen one from?

Depends what you want, your budget and if you want aftermarket or OEM.

Get an OEM Headunit.

The one you want is the RCD510, will do everything you want and more. Can be bought on here or on eBay for around £200 ish. Make sure it comes with the security code. You'll also need a FAKRA antenna adaptor too, they cost around £10 (also eBay).

Not sure you will need a FAKRA adaptor  The sockets on the rear of the rcd can be altered easily  :happy2:

For the sake of £6-£7 might as well just get the antenna adapter :)

Nice one, how do I go about buying one off here? And will it be brand new or second hand?

Keep an eye out in the For Sale section, they pop up from time to time. Have just had a quick look and there are LOADS on eBay.

Don't get an Erisin mate, I bought one off ebay recently and had nothing but trouble! Yeah it's plug in and play but it's cheap for a reason!! I reviewed the unit and listed the issues here http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,70489.0.html
Ended up sending it back for a full refund and bought a Sony XAV-72BT instead. Yeah it didn't have sat nav but it's so much better in every other way. Plus it works correctly, which is a major plus point over the Erisin

Yep mate, although I had to buy a facia plate thing. The Sony was a pig to try and fit flush as the way the unit slides open to enter a CD means that the first couple of goes it kept catching on the facia! Got it sorted in the end though and really happy with it.

If you fit a later generation stereo ie rcd510 rns510 etc you will need a can gateway upgrade on pre 2008 chassis build cars ....on the plus side I might be selling my rcd510 soon
