Title: removing rear disks without removing caliper carrier

hi can anyone confirm that the rear brake disk on a gti will not come off without removing the carrier or not?
if not can u undo these bolts with regular tools and on axle stands as ive heard u cant

They won't come off without taking off the caliper carriers, and you need a splined tool to undo them, mine were pig to undo a lot of force to get them undone

Yeh you need the take the caliper off. I had to go to MachineMart and buy a spline set. Was only £17.99 comes with splines 12-18 which is all you need for the Golf. Strong being impact can use with power bar or Air Gun.

I did mine on my tdi without taking the carrier off.

Just gave the disk a whack with a hammer and twisted it out, then slid the new one in and all was done!

The tdi has smaller discs (unless you have a 170bhp)?
