Title: Common Problem fixes
Post by: jakex181 on October 08, 2013, 03:41:00 pm
Ive been looking at the Mk5 GTi common problems and have recently replaced my PCV making an improvement, Im not sure if my DV is damaged and i am not aware of it being replaced in the cars life, is it worth me buying a new one and replacing it anyway? If so which revision is best to go for as ive seen some people dont choose the latest one.

Also id like to check my cam follower but was thinking am i better of just replacing it aswell while im checking, im not a mechanic but im an engineer, is this something that is easy to do myself?

Cheers

I'm certainly no mechanic either mate, but have replaced DV and Cam follower, if you take your time, esp. on the latter they are simple jobs really... worth noting, opening the drivers door will prime the fuel pump.

There are guides on cam follwer change (including a video) here - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,52731.0.html

It's an easier job with 2007 cars and younger, but is by no means insurmountable on older models.

It would be well worth checking your DV. Revision G is the best replacement.
