Title: Engine bay cleaning advise
Post by: stuart-88 on October 10, 2013, 10:01:57 pm
Hi guys, my car was at the body shop a few months ago and haven't really opened up the bonnet until the last week or so. It's absolutely full of dust and looks terrible. Any advise on how to clean under there? It's always a shady area to clean but needs doing unfortunately.

It's a TDI btw. I have a karcher at hand too if ones needed.

Thanks in advance!

Stuart.

have been told many a time that foil around all electrical ports and you can then pressure wash. I have never tried this, but know a lot of people who have.
Failing that you can always blow the dust away with some high power blowers, or even try a hairdryer or something like that.
I then use the auto finesse plastic reviver on all engine plastics and it tidies it up a treat. :happy2:

Its a tdi unless ur a complete banana its hard to fcuck anything up mate,
Warm her up. Turn her off, spray g101 or ag machine cleaner liberaly, leave for 5, pressure wash of just dont hold near electrical areas for too long, restart engine, shut bonnet let it warm up and dry then give a spray with aerospace or ag vinyl rubber, let dry then buff to matt finish.
Job done,
Only clios seem to suffer after a jetwashed bay  :happy2:

Always pressure wash my engines. It's blatantly obvious what not to get wet (electrics, air filter etc)...

Megs APC on all the gunky bits and some good ol' elbow grease. Then once cleaned off and dry, 303 over all the plastics ;)

Pressure wash...........don't be scared just cover up the important bits and go crazy.

I use degreaser with brush first and get the worst bits clean then p-wash the lot and dry it.
I only do this once a year really and just keep on top of it by wiping it down with a MF towel occasionally.
