MK5 Golf GTI

I was thinking of trading up from my 05 GTi to a Mk6 Golf R, however prices are still quite high. So I was thinking of buying a low mileage high spec Edition 30 or Pirelli.
As far as I know they are pretty much the same car except for wheels and interior, I just wondered which one would keep its residual value more in the future or even start to appreciate!
If I get a low mileage one I would look to keep it for along time until I can really afford a MK6 R or Mk7.
Any thoughts?

With the Pirelli your stuck with Black or sliver and there's the yellow stitching, not fussed on the wheels either :surprised:
For me I wanted a Steel gray first or the Red so had to be an edition 30 :happy2:
As for residual value shouldn't be nothing between them,
Holding residual value will be down to buying a good low miles high spec one and keeping it that way,
No daft front ends , Gay air, daft mods, silly wide wheels.
-
Forgot the limited colours of the Pirelli :happy2:
-
The Pirelli will hold better as it is rarer and it's slightly choice interior makes it more if a novelty. I doubt you would notice it much at sale time though. Just get the best car you can find.

Ideally I would like a 5 door in black, dsg or manual,so not sure how many out there?

Pirellis also made in graphite blue and yellow, yellow ones are imports, circa 230 Pirellis made compared to 2,300 Ed30s

Wow, never seen a blue or yellow one!

5 door will be harder to sell on I would say.

As for 2300 Edition 30's made,but divide by five colour's ( I think) =Rare car :happy2:
so finding the colour in the high spec you want, low miles etc ( with the doors you want) will be hard be a hard job.
I found mine :pomppomp:
Found one very cheap but the mileage is Stellar

Starship enterprise has less miles than that

Pirelli's were made to sell off the last MK5 GTi's in a limted run like many manufacturers do at the transition time from one model to another (MK5 to MK6 as far as Pirelli is concerned)
The Edition 30 was made to celebrate the Anniversary of the GTI and was due to be limited to 1500 but was increased to 2300ish for some reason (Does anyone know why)
Like anything made to celebrate an Anniversary the ED30 will be worth more in the long run (10 years plus)
In the short term i would say that the ED30 will also retain more value as long as the mileage is kept low .
So depends on what mileage you intend to do and over what period - Cars with over 100k only attract a certain buyer and when you limit the appeal it reduces the price accordingly
My Opinion :innocent:

Don't forget the hundreds of euro market ones that Motorpoint shifted...

I like the Pirelli and the interior, pretty trick, but just limited to silver and black, if your happy with those colours then great! :driver:

A 5 door less Practical ??? :stupid:
A 3 door will be less appealing to a car that's just a family hatchback car in its class ?

^^ i'd have to agree... When trying to shift on my old 3 door ed30 I missed out on a couple of sales to people only wanting 5 door versions..
-
Totally agree with above, had 5 people call about my 5dr ED30 (Candy White DSG) all having seen a Candy 3dr but wanted 5 doors, had 3 people to call back to say the 1st guy who came to see it bought it :happy2:
-
I would have whichever suits your money situation better at the time
Both fantastic cars in my opinion
-
Everyone to their own :happy2:
For me a GTI is a three door hatch
If I needed a 4 door family every day car I would not buy and a 4 door GTI
but yes as said above there is a market for them

I went for edition30 as the interior is what I wanted most.
Also went for 3 doors as don't have kids haha
-
Ideally I need a 5 door, currently have 5 door GTI, however the kids are getting older so I could probably have a 3 door, not very often I have the all kids in the car other than a couple of times a year. :happy2:
-
if it were my money i'd go for an Ed30 - i'm not that fussed about special editions, but the Ed30 looks absolutely fantastic and i love the interior. the Pirelli interior may be a novelty but it's nowhere near as good looking imho.

I could always go for this Mk6 Golf Chav

Looked at mk6's myself but, just can't warm to them :rolleye:
High spec Edition 30 is what you want or if your going mk6 then a Golf R in the blue two door :happy2:
-
My heart says type 'R' but not really sure I can finance one just yet.
I am currently out of the country and back next month so will seriously check out finance options/trade in value, try and sell privately and see how much monies I have.
Late model ed30, low mileage and high spec or Type R/Mk6 which has grown on me.
Decisions, Decisions

Nice one, mine was a 94 Urban Tiger, first of the Foxeye, loved that bike, had an indicated 165 on the clock, not bad for an old un!
-
Edition 30 for definite! I hate the interior in the Pirelli's and the wheels look pants too.
But if you can get an R, then do!
