After having my car stolen four weeks ago insurance have now said its a total loss :sad1:. Waiting on them to make me an offer. What would you guys think is a reasonable offer . Candy white gti 57 plate 33000 miles colour coded bumpers stage one remap . Full service history belt done a water pump mint condition before theft
-
You need to find broad based documentation on as many other "very similar"vehicles as yours - then use this as to why your vehicle is worth it's value, if their offer fails to meet your expectations!
-
What's wrong with it?
What have they offered? Such a difficult area when it comes to a limited edition car?
Could you take the insurance money and then buy it back? Wish I'd done this with my mkiv...
-
Front bumper smashed side all scratched .roof dented bonnet bashed front wheel fooked windows left open for a week or so . And was in a chase so don't know how bad engine is

as doylebros says do research on autotrader , pistonheads and even this forum , save electronic version and compile a fact base.

SA is DSG
in terms of the engine they are pretty bullit proof :happy2: even after being stolen!

Cut your losses and take the money... I wouldn't want that back now....
I bought my GTI in May (from a dealer)
Silver
07
43k
£9300
You're looking at that I guess?....
-
Yep I'm thinking or hoping 10 k spoke to a dealer the day he checked up on his computer and said they would sell for 10,100 and trade in at 8,500
-
I expect they will offer around £7500 initially , what it costs to replace doesn't always come into it . Who is your insurance company ? This will make a great difference to what you get offered and also depends on how quickly you want the cash . Do a Webuyanycar quote too , it will give you some idea .
What you get for it is more down to luck . You will not be impressed with the manner in which it happens and i would estimate you might get a max of £8900 but nearer £8.5k . Good Luck
I dealt with a man about ten years ago after a serious accident , he had crashed his BMW ten days after paying £23500 for it from a BMW Main Dealer , his insurance comapny eventually paid him £19000
-
Yes I am expecting a fight with insurance . I should not be out of pocket for scumbags who broke into my house and trashed my car
-
Hope you get what ur after iv had 2 total losses in 5 years and both I was pleasantly surprised what they offerd hopefully you are to :happy2:
-
Yes, every case is different but I've found if you do their job and have the documentation things have went my way!
Do your homework it will pay dividends when the time comes too settle - they work on the principle you've got the money spent so don't jump in with both feet!
Just say cool and seek advice at each stage if your not happy with their offer.

Insurers really grate on me... Why do we pay it when they won't even pay out?!? :fighting:
-
Hopefully here tomorrow I will keep you's posted

Makes you think why do we even bother paying? They never wanna payout just want to take and take :stupid:

I'd take the money. With a dented roof, windows left open for a week and a thrashing in a chase it'll be a risk. Plus I'd feel like that car wasn't really mine anymore, had the same when I crashed a Cav Turbo many years ago, it was fixed bit it never felt the same.
Thieving scum, how people think that taking other peoples property for a short term bit of gain is a f*cking disgrace. I hope that plod manages to convict and they get chemically castrated in Broadmoor but not before becoming someones b*tch.
-
Well said simmo! :congrats: My condolences to the OP :sad1:
-
We'll they offerd me in the end 9500 not to bad now on the look out for new car
-
At the risk of getting shot down here, I don't mind insurance companies trying to minimise the amount they shell out. It keeps my premiums low. But when you think you're being treated unfairly, it's no good saying it's unfair; you have to prove it is.
I had a similar issue when my motorbike was written off (and nearly me with it). A loss adjuster was appointed and offered a low sum. I sent a report just over an inch thick by recorded delivery, with similar models for sale across the country. With each, I showed features that were worse (or better) than mine with a realistic estimate of the effect this would have on price. I included copies of every bill and photographs of all the work (restoration) I'd done.
They paid me more than I bought it for. Evidence is what you need. Good luck.

I think 9500 is fair to be honest . I have looked at loads of cars and there all about 9,000 to 10,000 . I would not say I was happy I would have rather not had my house broken into and car stole . No one was hurt no one,s dead so it's onwards and upwards just hope the ****s that done it get what they deserve .they will probably get a slap on the wrist for being bad boys :fighting:
-
Well your the person who needs to be happy - could take months to get them to move on any offer up over!
Hope you have better luck with the replacement . :happy2:
-
Glad your coming to a closure you could probably get an extra 500 with a moan but seems fair what you thinking of next?
-
It's a bloody nightmare looking for another car
Especially when I dident want one
Still like the gti but been there
Thinking A5coupe or a Rocco mabey a 325i coupe
-
If it was me I'd be looking at s3 edition 30/35 bmw 335 diesel golf r but still a tad to expensive it's hard enough when ur looking buy when it's put on you its worse!
-
Why don't you just buy the same car again, unless you were unhappy with it or want to move on?
The Mk6 GTI can be had for ~10k ish now.
