GILLM, what are the dimmensions of the MO's. quite fancy a set of these but wasnt sure if you could spec the "ET" of the wheel.
Also where did you buy them and what were the costs if you dont mind me asking. Car looks good on them.

Only just see this Gilm  :ashamed:

And I have to say I liked those wheels, they looked very purposfull!  :happy2:

they looked good but putting the coilovers on and going lower just would not work , would rub like mad on track . plus i bought another mk2 and the misses was getting chewy about the sets of wheels i have stored for my mk1 . still got 3 sets of mos 1 set of ch's and the std monza 2s .

just done the cambelt and water pump on it today . what a pain in the ass . fitted later spec covers to it to make the process a little bit easier .

on inspection of the belt there were 3 teeth that were worn and had caused ware to the rollers and tensioner . was defo time to change it .
car has done 29k and is 4 years old , eek

....

Love those wheels you got rid of (sorry!).

I don't quite understand your concern about rubbing - If your coilovers and suspension are properly setup you shouldn't experience rubbing. I don't and you know how low mine is now. Tucking up the arch linings helps too.

Glad to hear you got the brakes finished - I wouldn't have wanted to hold you up.

I got pulled by the Police on the way home! (In Random Chat).

yeh just read that , glad it went ok for you . i remeber years ago getting pulled over for foglights in yeovil and getting a fine for then , but i was on my way home from weymouth and clay pidgen was covered in fog (as it always is ) and had forgot to turn them off when back in yeovil .

did the glue hold robin ?

The glue is amaaaaazing! Methinks it's stronger than the alu (or "tin" as you call it).

Step 2 today.. Glue set overnight.. Fitting and pics tomorrow, unless my studio session goes on all day, then it'll be new HowTo improve an EVOMS cover thread (excluding repair details).

Re your gt28, methinks that Ray West is a good option - Ticks a lot of boxes. Nothing against APR, they have good products, but long distance relationships are nearly always tricky.

Looking great!  :congrats:

But, more importantly, delivering the braking balance you prefer.

Having seen your car yesterday, I must say that those CH's look perfect as they are - Just my opinion but I think you'd spoil them if finished in black.

If you're on a course for more track action with the Mk5, then consider some lighter weight wheels such as the new Team Dynamics (they do matt black) - Makes a difference you can feel. Spare set of TD's with track rubber and keep the CH's perhaps because they look very smart indeed.

got round to fitting the engine mounts and they have made a lot of difference , no more sloppy engine movement and gearchanges are alot crisper , but they are loud ! im hoping the will quieten down . i also jacked the car up 10mm as it was catching on everything ! and on doing this i moved the inner liner up to stop the rubbing if it ever was to get close .

another thing i spotted was my tyres are threw to the canvus  :scared: so i took all of the ch's off and put the monzas back on till i get some new tyres put on next week .

everything is lined up for the turbo to go on but im thinking of doing it after i go to germany (could be tempting fate if i do it before )

its also booked in for the diff and clutch to be fitted at vwr next week .

car is in having the diff and clutch fitted :)

and vw racing gave my dad a 300bhp mk5 gti whilst they have mine lol . word is "its fast !"
Title: Re: my gti (gt28 being fitted soon)
Post by: gillm on March 13, 2010, 06:30:50 pm
well got the car back and the clutch is mega . zero slip and not as harsh as i thought it might be , infact its not too far from a lightened 02a/vr set up . spool up is quicker too :)

not been pushing it too much to test the diff as i also had new roters fitted whilst the car was in so im still bedding them in ! i also fitted the fuel pump last week and it now has 300 miles on it so it proven with good mid range and upwards results .

all thats left to do is fit the turbo kit :)

very impressed with vwr . top bunch of lads !

hi robin

after getting my car back from having the diff done i had a clunking noise from the front (posted a thread at the time http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,13610.0.html  ). after alot of messing around changing droplinks i good friend of mine who is the workshop manager of haynes popped over and asked what had been done since he had the car (1 week before vwr had it) .

i told him i had the diff done so we then went threw logical steps of removing the box . i.e drive shafts out / hubs slacked / strut slacked .

turned out that the main shock bolt (threw the hub) was loose / not even nipped up , so the strut was moving around in the hub body causing it to clunk .

very upset to say the least as i found it 2 days before a track day !

i contacted vwr and they deniied it all .

there would have been nothing they could do apart from drive down and put a spanner on it . but after that i went over evertything the went near to be sure for myself . i fully understand peeps make mistakes aware/unaware of , but that is the only thing i have let someone else do on the car only to be let down by . live and learn i guess .have you never thought of using a local garage robing ? seems odd driving all that way .

....I wouldn't trust any of the local garages except my VW dealer but they can't do things like install a DSG diff or setup a suspension, drill carbon, etc. It's horses for courses and I use either my dealer, JKM in Portsmouth, or VWR in Milton Keynes, each depending what needs doing. VWR can, and do, do all sorts of things which an ordinary garage can't and I'm very happy to drive the distance.

I use people I feel comfortable with and who I have a rapport with.

Haha, you guys are pretty funny, But so damn true. Already looking at a stage 3+ for the car, I have not even owned it for 24hrs yet. lol.

Mainly cause it's almost a near impossible price to resist. It's from a mate I helped install his around 4 months ago. But is going to a MK6 with Stage 3+ now.

will have to try and get one of those front spoilers. Sorry not wanting my car to look like yours but I really like that front lip thou.
