I'm buying a 'R' this weekend but most of the one's for sale are DSG's,i've driven manual car's all my life and would never go DSG but what's so special about it?
-
I thought this too... Have a test drive... You'll soon realise for yourself :driver:
-
Dsg is the future
So there is a strong argument to get another manual and enjoy it whilst you can sanj
-
Try it and make your own mind up.
-
Thank's for the reply guy's,gonna be spending £25k+ so wanted to make sure whether i'm doing the right thing, mmm let's see! :happy2:
-
my personal opinion is that DSG is the best of both worlds and i would never drive a manual again. you might not feel it's involving enough. only you will know. test drive it and see.
-
Don't get me started on dsg  :signLOL: never did anything for me after owning one and driving loads but for some people it's the best thing ever but it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing :happy2:
-
I was just like you buddy, thought manuals are always better.
But DSG is flipping great! Took me a couple of test drives to like it and now I love it. Only way is just to try it out and find out if it works for you!
Having said that though I do still own a few manuals to scratch that itch.
-
I used to be the guy that would say auto is rubbish and all that.
I now own a dsg gti and absolutely love it!
My mate with a 8p 2.0tfsi now also wants dsg :happy2:
-
Also was dead set against a auto,
saw the first edition30 for sale local but was DSG test drove it anyway, and bought it same day :signLOL:

+2
I used to be the same as I'm a diehard manual fan but after owning a Dsg ed30 & now a Dsg golfR,I would never buy a manual car,it's best of both worlds but tbh it's up to you..
Ps...get the dsg remapped & it will blow yr socks off mate
-
Never been a fan of automatics. However. I don't see these as an auto. They are so smooth and progressive. The gear change is faultless and almost predictive and super smooth it's also faster too in theory as the change is quicker.
Let me put it this way. My other half only drives auto and she recently bought a new insignia diesel auto and I thought it was super smooth. That is until I got my dsg and now hers seems poor by comparison.

Just spotted a grey 'R' DSG 5 door ACC,with a bluefin superchip fitted which take's it to 300bhp,and it was cheaper than the Rising blue manual but had 44k mile's on it but has had the DSG major service done on it at 40k,I think i'm going to go for it!

It looks like a nice one! I love the grey car and black wheel combination and DSG is great - I wouldn't be without it now. Check with them that the warranty is transferable - by the way it's an official 'VW' extended warranty with Mondial. I know because I asked VW when I was speaking to them about something else earlier today! :happy2: If I lived closer, I might have been tempted to buy it myself! Good luck!

I have DSG and love it. I recently added some s2t paddles (that's the manufacturer) and made a massive improvement to using DSG in manual. Not cheap, but worth it. http://www.s2tpp.com/VW.html (http://www.s2tpp.com/VW.html)
Statllers had one set in black left and they usually keep stock although I had the last pair

Never expected to have a DSG ED30 when I first set out looking, but after trying both manual and DSG, I felt the DSG was better suited for my daily drive.
Guess I'm getting old, as I got fed up of all the clutch work in heavy traffic. Must admit, the DSG changes are absolutely seemless - my mate was amazed by it on track at Donington last weekend - said there was just no break in the acceleration.
Only time I now miss a manual is the ability to skip gears up and down the gearbox.
I can only advise - try both and make your own decision!
-
I'm a big fan of manual as i prefer the involvement of changing gear myself and the challenge of maintaining smooth gear changes with the clutch - its all part of the skill of driving
However After seeing how well the combination of DSG and haldex work together on Hurdy's, if i was going for an "R", it would be DSG. I think the clutch on a manual would struggle to take a lot of fast launches and would be slipping at Stage 1 anyway. . .
DSG does use a little more fuel and is a little heavier (25kg) than a manual box

It's 29 & I'm fed up with manual. It all depends on lifestyle as well, how much driving you do. I find the DSG more engaging then manual, and the fact it's quicker is just the winner for me. Everyday driving in 'D' is perfect. Then 'M' is racecar mode

Warranty is transferable and it's had the major service on the DSG at 40k,it's on 44k ata the moment,I managed to get it at £22,600 and it has full service history and is in mint condition,it also has the bluefin hand held mapping tool thrown in as well! :jumping:
-
Congratulations!! :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:
Enjoy it!
-
Gorgeous car, good buy!
-
Thank's guy's I collect it next Saturday,can't wait!
-
Get a GIAC Dsg map to go along the bluefin, should be a good combination
-
The best bit is you can sell the bluefin :signLOL:
After reading this I wouldn't touch them: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,65077.0.html
Their mapping techniques seem to put a lot of strain on components, just dumps a load of boost which tails off later on in the rev range :scared:
-
How LAZY are people getting nowadays!!!!!

That's the first thing i'll be doing is removing the map,I want to keep the 'R' standard until I have a chance to go to R-Tech! :happy2:

I'm beginning to think more often now "I wish I got a DSG box...", but that's usually when I've missed a rushed change into 4th or 5th when I remember the Audi A3 TDI 6MT boxes weren't designed for fast changes back to back  :chicken:
