Title: TomTom GO 400 - HELP PLEASE!
Post by: RedRobin on October 18, 2013, 11:24:22 am
Hi guys,

Continuing on from my daughter's purchase of a new TomTom GO 400 posted here:  http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,73736.0.html

Testing it on the way home on one A-road was perfect. However, a couple of days ago I rode passenger with her to give her her first motorway training - The M5 being about 30 miles away from home. The wretched thing took us miles and miles along single car width cross country roads! It attempted to do the same to us for the way home on a different route.

We can't see a way around this problem at the moment. Has anyone got any experience of this and how to resolve it please?

In the settings it's probably set to shortest route as opposed to fastest

.
She tells me she tried both 'Fastest' together with 'Motorway' ticked yesterday on a trip to Bristol and although it was okay in town it was very bad outside the town. So problem not yet solved.

Maybe it's re routing to avoid traffic?

It's the inherent problem with sat navs.... You can't make it go the way you want sometimes.

....There wasn't a level of traffic which would need avoiding on either day.

I nearly always manage to get my SatNav to take me the route I want (it starts off by offering me 3 routes) and it's quite a few years old. But it is a built-in Alpine and cost nearly £2k, so not a fair comparison.
