Title: Big Al's slippery slope
Post by: big al on September 07, 2009, 08:40:48 pm
Hi guys, been looking at everyones updates pretty much every time I go on the forum, has given me lots of inspiration, and already cost me loads.
I am quite new to the modifying game. First car was a 72 VW Beetle, but as I didn't even have a licence, my knowledge of cars was limited, so sold it and bought a 52 reg VW polo, Put some alloys on, and after a while sold it, then tried a seat Leon 06.... thats all I am going to say about that car, so then onto a MK3 16V:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_0274-1-1.jpg&hash=a397810d28b6b6a1ef5b12ad20b2cddfe8881a3f)

Did a few bits to it, but never really mad on the car, so when the service quote of £1600 came in, I decided it was time to put my savings to something new:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_1151.jpg&hash=e7e0a4c8b6c7e653da1d634c28c299edc333aa93)
05 reg, 52 000 on the clock   but it had the heated seats that I had been after, no xenons though, but only 2 owners, and was in the price range that I was after, £9700 later, and I had a nice new car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_1149.jpg&hash=0689a0ea93085a4c0d3c007e73b65716f92a3971)

Before I even had the car I had the replacement gearstick, as the one that came with it was quite scuffed
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F005.jpg&hash=2e0f0e8f0a4d78127af60f8a232377eb98af861c)
Then off with the original alloys and on with the much better looking 18's,

Got a pioneer touchscreen stereo, but its crap, so have bought a Kenwood one, thanks to Hurdy and his words of advice. (haven't fitted it yet though, so here's the old one)
Then last week, by carbon intake was finally ready to go in, I apologise for the mess all over the engine cover, it was like that when I bought it, but the garage has told me they will replace it as it is broken and won't fix on properly.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_1280.jpg&hash=ce031e416fecea8e6706ab895a4bd8defad34cc0)
And also on with the Milltek res centre exhaust, it doesn't fit as perfect as I hoped, but is good enough for me.
(muddy bumper at the moment, can't wash the car as hosepipe is broken)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_1283.jpg&hash=c6840b0e634adc7bc2f1d54713c0b290b5c0c49f)
And then most recently
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F102_1285.jpg&hash=fdded2b95de7a451deb64ec0517e92983fb5040c)

New suspension on its way soon too,
Hope you like. I know its not amazing, but I am working on making it as nice as I can whilst also paying off the loan and having a house to pay for.

I am sorry for doing that mate,
But you can see, my car is desperately in need of something doing with it, yours is much nicer than mine!  :happy2:

Nope, not been refurbed, just don't seem to show the damage very much, they will be done at some point, think with black inserts, but its on hold at the moment as I am thinking of putting some Scirocco twisty alloys on instead for something really different.

H & R lowering springs arrived yesterday, going on holiday and then will fit them when I get back.
Should take about 30mm out of the height, also going to get new stereo fitted soon.
(does anyone want to help me fit the springs please???)

Small update, Still not fitted springs, However got aerial off e bay and now have Kenwood DVD player/Sat nav installed.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Fnucdplayer2.jpg&hash=1e1b5e3d33d68ac6b248f5c98ae98558a03f5e64)
(Please excuse the crazy amount of fingerprints on it, I did kill someone in the car earlier!)
Then, the new alloys. Have always said I will not get rid of the Monza's as I think they are one of the most noticeable and best looking alloys ever, unfortunately the attraction to kerbs does seem to sway that opinion somewhat, And when I saw these ones I knew that they were perfect for the car:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Fsciroccotwists.jpg&hash=a52066635b4d82609020d43ece3639b7c5c72f97)

, Not got any better pics at the moment, need to get out into the countryside to really get some nice pics!

(have you noticed how often my dog sneaks into these photo's?!)

Maybe next month, though road tax is due, its so annoying as there is so much that £120 could go on my car!
Lowering probably December, got quoted £150 (unless someone wants to volunteer to help me!). So amongst that, X-mas, and me having an unhealthy addiction to tattoo's then I should be closer to the ground, want the colour coding doing too which won't be cheap, and then remaps etc.

I didn't used to use this forum too often and almost bought one from the'other' forum, glad I didn't though, that place is too clicky and full of Mk4 tanks!
May get a new set if V.C does any, as mine are slightly lopsided, rule of thumb, just because the spirit level is straight, doesnt mean the land the car is on is straight too!

Not much of an update, I would have liked it to be that the springs are fitted, but think that is next month now.
Thanks to Hurdy and his superfast postage and dealing skills I now have a very nice looking 2 piece badge (ready to be carbonfibre backed!!!)

Doesn't stick out as far as I thought it would.

Had a visit to Midland VW today, and they beat it with a lowering stick for 3 hours, and it came out like this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Flowered.jpg&hash=c98ae7fa3abf6a737bf564612140a50c3a30a695)

Doesn't look too different at the moment, hoping that the springs wear in after a short while,
Next up is the colour coding, found a local place that is VERY cheap, and professional too.

Lowered :happy2: wheels not my cup of tea, but then i dont like them on the rocco either. Colour coding may help pull them of? But the GTI should never have come with bare valances in the 1st place.

Thanks mate, I would, but I park my car on the part of the drive that has not yet been tarmacced, therefore it is in the mud all the time.
Though I do have some of the tyre shine on the way for X-mas.

Finally time for an update, Still parking on the muddy part of the drive, so have not cleaned my wheels properly, couple of months and i'll have the drive done.
Anyways, over Christmas took car to Midland VW for a couple of bits that needed fixing, whilst it was there Jodie kindly put my ED30 Steering wheel on, couldn't get a decent pic, but it basically looks the same as the old one, but with red stitching, you all know what they are like.

Picked the car up today after having the colour coding done at Chase Automotive in Cannock, very nice people, place doesn't look the best, but the work and price was to my liking, and the end result is really good. Took 5 days instead of 3, but didn't need it this week anyways as been at home off work. Do also need to wax the new parts as they look slightly different on the pics:
After seeing the work that people have had done on here, and the front lip not fully done thought I would have a go at that:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0632.jpg&hash=9ca826edc5d39db07d43abd2f0e8043cfa99d3c0)

Note the red GTI badge on the front courtesy of a certain friend on here,  :happy2:

Since having the H&R Springs fitted, the car now sits pretty nicely, though think I may replace them with adjustable shocks, love the low look at the shows.

It depends what your usage is if you just want a better stance with a slight handling improvement then the H&R springs should Suffice.  :happy2:

If you want to go round corners a bit faster then the AP coils have been getting good reviews with a reasonable price too.  :happy2:

Funny story there. It does play through a USB cable, I have mine in the glovebox, Its got a sat nav built in as well, and is a very nice player. Hurdy reccomended it to me, as its the same as his. Only problem is, my ipod has version 1.1.2 on, and you need version 1.2.1 which is older, I have the disc, but have never got around to figuring out how to back up my ipod, so that I can reconfigure it to and older verison. Aside from that, its neat, and DVD's look really good on it.

Ahhh cool. how much do they cost brand new. iv been looking at an alpine one but its around £600.

Brand new, not sure. I paid £350 off e bay, and then £30 for the sat nav aerial. Just checked e bay and they have some for £400.
Not sure they make this model new anymore. Mine is the Kenwood DNX 7200.
Very easy to use, the only problem with touchscreen is that it can be difficult to change tracks whilst driving, as you have to press right on the imaginary button.
Let us know if you do get one, and what you think of it.

More of an update.
Now that I am getting all the cosmetic bits done, I am starting to think about the performance increases, and ICE too, So over the coming months will be updating on how much more £ I am wasting/spending on my second wife.
First, is the rear mudflaps, bought a full set off one of the members here, Not keen on the fronts, so sold them on, and was not sure about the rears either at first, not keen on breaking up the nice line of the colour coded sides and bumper, but wanted to protect them at the same time.
Not the best pic, but do like how it looks with the partially coloured rear bumper.
After that came the new interior, courtesy of PaulK, who very helpfully fitted them whilst I stood there and drank his wifes cups of tea. (only the one pic, as the dog hammock was in the back protecting the seat.

And finally, some nice new lights:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0771.jpg&hash=23092c529ca1c29d118378eb5844032e566f27ab)
Was quite pleased with this, £400, and £50 for the adaptors off e bay.de, Was pleased to find out that the bumpers already have the headlight washers in, just that the fuse had gone, stopping it from working. Lighting is fantastic now, could not believe how much more powerful they are.

Coming next, RNS 510, Multifunction steering, hopefully some new rear lights (not ED30 ones though) and hoping to get the exhaust sorted so that it is ready for a remap. :D

Hi again, been a while since I updated, not really done too much to the car, as I am SLOWLY starting to get it to where I want it to be.
Bought a MK5 Trueseal BSH Induction kit off e bay the other day, and got it for £78.00. Bargain! Fitted it yesterday, what a pain in the ass it was too, if someone can let me know if I have not fitted it correctly as it is at a weird angle right now.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0932.jpg&hash=f73ba88ca24c7967a45f985fe196dad750859938)
Was bidding on a milltek downpipe to go with it so that it would be fully ready for a remap, but got outbidded and then the bids went mad and too high for me. Did get a non res centre section though as the weld broke on my old one and it caused me to fail my MOT.
About 2 months ago I got in on the group buy and went on a jolly to meet Mort, AKA Darren, who fitted me up with a RNS510  :jumping: Fantastic unit, and got the MDI unit so that get full ipod use too. Darren also helped me fit my seats properly, fitted cruise control and my multifunction steering wheel. Very cool guy,
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0934.jpg&hash=f34e761bb917e1ead31cd39a2bca97df1f2d9302)
Can't believe I forgot this one too:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0933.jpg&hash=e007c50ad248cac40e929290fefcefd862fd70cb)
And finally the other day arrived a massive parcel from Germany. The Euro LED lights, spent a couple of days breaking them up and swapping the lenses, and finished fitting them (about a 10 minute job) yesterday, Very happy with them, and they look great on the silver car IMO.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_0936.jpg&hash=48201eb6021bda11736daf0ad87a954da20111f5)

Next up, Poss new wheels, and a new rear bumper idea possibly.
Any advice, criticism welcome ta!  :happy2:

Thanks for the kind words.
To be honest, I was not able to have it sorted properly at the time, as I didn't have the module.
I bought the stalk, £40, and then you get a cruise module off e bay for about £45, takes no time to fit it, and then get it coded, and you are off.

Cheers Paul.
By the looks of that mine is not on correctly, when I took off my engine cover I had to take off the clip that was holding the plastic piping on, and the pipe then connects with a new rubber tube with screw clips around each end, that connected on to a solid piece of metal tubing on the engine, Think will have to get the DC show next week and have a look at some there to see what I have done wrong.

Looking very nice m8. Only 1 thing, change the wheels! imo

To be honest mate, with the car being lowered 30mm, and the wheels being 235 then they rub on pretty much any bump in the road, and the noise is horrible, as such I am on the lookout for a new set of wheels, but canot decide which, thinking of going chrome and get some new BBS style wheels, again, show season will help decide on that.

Firstly I am sorry for the poor Iphone pictures.
Have been spending rather a lot lately on the car (think that's what show season does to you!)
After having a LOT of trouble with wheels which I won't go into just yet, not until its sorted anyway! Decided I liked the look of the LM's, but unfortunately not the price tag that came with them, so had to go down the route of getting some cheap (ish) reps, I have to say though, I quite like them, a nice finish
And whilst the wheels were off gave the calipers the best clean that they have seen in their 60 000 mile lifespan, though there are still some chips here and there.

Even got some cool dice valve covers (well I think they are pretty cool anyway!)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Funtitledre.jpg&hash=5d6bd2003e851ab88438ce57fd5931cf126d8b3a)

A pound if anyone notices what my next cosmetic mod is from the third picture

Also got some very nice looking Bilstein B16 shocks thanks to a certain member here to get the ride height/and the ride much nicer.
Just looking at them I get all excited......Look the danglies
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Fspring.jpg&hash=4baafa4173980d48a382e8a8a6d1b18d513b9284)

Also had the cambelt changed, which is a £350 mod that made NO difference, wat a ripoff!
Had a Forge shortshifter put in, like it, though keep missing 6th into 4th, very tricky.
And also got an Evoms engine cover which has not gone on yet as there is a bit of work to be done on it.
Next update soon I hope

Thanks mate, fist time I have been 'spotted' whilst out and about, did notice yours too, looked very nice.
The rear lights are great, much prefer them to the ED30/R32 ones. Think they are better from a safety point of view as well, as the indicators are much clearer.
You can get them new from Germany for around £220 a set, and then with a small amount of work you can change the reverse light around.
Found some on e bayGermany, but they are after £400. Will try to find the site.
Have actually seen them on e bay from Taiwan for £200, but think they may be fakes?!

Greeners, YOu were sooo close mate.
But here is the latest update, which is finally complete after waiting forever for the lower part to arrive,
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FR32rearandMilltek.jpg&hash=cd95ff8d3fd6b7248cf2a0751a94f584da049dc8)

Its a genuine R32 rear, with a MK5 GTI R32 style Milltek backbox, Big thanks to Jodie at Midland VW for sorting that, got it from Milltek directly at trade price for me, and fitted it for free.

The paint doesn't match perfectly, but after a bit of polishing and waxing I hope I can make it a bit closer to what the rest of the car is...Any tips?

Was in on a group buy at R32OC.Com for a carbon fibre lower diffuser cover, but that went all wrong when they finally got into the UK and were shocking quality.

Don't know what is next now.

Been to have the Milltek downpipe and sports cat fitted today, No pictures as that would be silly.
But with that and the non res centre pipe it is sooo loud now, Really shocked at the difference.
Getting it ready for a remap now, though would like to do a million and one other things at the same time.
Also noticed that the exhaust pipes stick out a bit more now, showing off the Milly logos!

Yet again, a small update (and another apology for hte crap drive pictures)

Firstly I got my windscreen fixed last week, fortunately the rain sensor was still intact, as that would have been another annoying expense.

Got a parcel on Tuesday off a dirty five. Dirty dirty stuff!!! My new set of AMG Aero alloys, which 20 minutes later were down at A1 being wrapped in the nicest tyres ever, Sessantas, feels much nicer to drive on already than the Falkens.
Wheels are 18", tyres are 225, wish I had been a little braver and gone for 215's maybe.
As you can see from the pics, I think I need to have the wheels off shortly so that I can wind the Bilsteins down a bit to get a nicer stance, and possibly thinking of spacers at the back, though not sure if that will cause any rubbing.

Any comments, criticisms, and advice will be taken onboard, Some may not like them (most people at work keep asking why I have 4 space saver wheels on) Still trying to decide if they do work on a silver car, Though the pictures don't look as good as they do in real life.
And the wife says if I change them again then she may leave me!  :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove:

i agree with tyre size, when lowered even more the 215s would look better with some lower profiles so can stretch them

keep the colour coded skirts also

you just need more low and stretch tyres  :happy2:

AMG rims are not normally my cup of tea but they look really good! Might look even better with black bolts.

Might look even better with black bolts.
I'd have gone for gold bolts with gold detail on the rim.

Few more pictures:
Decided to have a bash at matt black wrap on the front grille, smoothed out the holes, and then stuck this on, its not the tidiest when up close, and I also realised my red stripe had snapped when I took it off (anyone have a spare?) Gone for the magnetic number plate mod as Top Cat suggested.

Also got a forge twintake, ordered it last Monday, it came last Wednesday, last one in stock, once I finally fitted it, very impressed, got a bit scared by the noise at first, but used to it now, and love it.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Fforgeintake.jpg&hash=91f0c59e7d92687e1dffdceace2c86ef280aa20a)

Also, big thanks to Chris, drove over to Stoke a couple of weeks ago to get teh centre strip off an engine cover for my Evoms cover, but when I got there he gave me the whole engine cover, therefore as it will not fit with my forge, I have decided to hack off the sides, still got to smooth it off, and cut off a couple more bits, then send it away for a respray.

(sorry, can't figure out how to make my pics larger!  :ashamed:)

how much did the side skirts and rear bumper cost you to spray mate?

Had the original rear bumper done, but sold it mate, the R32 bumper was £100 to spray.
They charged £300 to sand and primer the front splitter, side skirts, and original rear bumper.
Would recommend Chase Automotive to anyone.
(pics of the original bumper on about page 2/3)

Would not hesitate to get one, best intake I have had so far, pretty sure there is a slight power gain, Very nice sound too, AND looks very stylish.

Just a couple of pics to add from 'The Pod' today (makes a change to the crap ones on my drive!), didn't get on the track, but enjoyed watching.

(Lets see how long I keep these wheels on then, think they need to come off for the winter weather, scratch on these could cost a bit to fix)

Another update, it's getting too cold to really do much on the car now, but what has happened to it over about the last month or so:
(more crappy pics, will be finding a nice location and getting some good ones sorted...promise!)

Winter wheels:

And the best saved for last:

So so comfy!!!

Fantastic R32 recaros, from a MK5 R32 that crashed after 2700 miles, seats and bolsters are pretty much mint, though very cold in winter.
Got plans to have something special done to these, not quite sure what though. (also, trying to decide what I could do to cover the R logo on the headrest? Suggestions?)

Going into garage soon for possible new brakes, and FK suspension, (get a nice drop on the car then) and Possible Revo stage 2.

Been a while since I updated the thread, it is winter time, so not been doing loads lately except  for constantly cleaning snow and ice off it.
First small mod was a nice piece of carbon interior, first part if you don't count the forge cans. Must say I think I may end up with a few more bits of this somewhere now.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_3035.jpg&hash=d00f24d037a887370db5e738c9c52667e8af6e07)

Also, thanks to Redsnake and some poor ebay wording I managed to finally get an Edition 30 splitter, did want the votex one, but this one went for £100 and only cost £70 at Chase Automotive to have sprayed so can't  complain. Looks the dogs compared to the old standard painted one I had, gives a much more aggressive and full look, and also got the US badgeless grill which is nice.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_3034.jpg&hash=921de71a3e533e99b03e905232ec4557b5f51312)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_3033.jpg&hash=18935443f23c0f8d7efb5878ce7c82b35df3886a)

I was originally going to use a metal cover like the sort redrobin uses, but when I went to Chris in stoke to pick up the centre strip he kindly gave me a  complete cover, which I was very grateful for, and after seeing how he did his strip blue then I thought I may as well try the whole mod.
The garage also painted up my modded engine cover, not fitted it properly yet, as trying to figure out how to get the sensor around the one part, (any tips?) Went for the opposite of how it was originally, silver where the black was, and black where the silver was. Really pleased with it, and  quite pleased with how it looks. If you do this yourself then it is worth filling the open side up with some of the spare plastic and some filler, As you can see on the first side on picture.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2FIMG_3032.jpg&hash=f166422e04eedd8528f2db4aa7b72495d2ad345f)

Lots more to  come as I am sure you have all come to realise by now.

I'm a bit confused about the oil cap, as mine doesn't have the stalk neck type part so hoping that I will be able to see it ok once all fitted up.
Think that will only be about the 9th set, Not too bad if you ask me.

....I've forgotten (typical me!) the exact detail but it's important that the seal to your oil cap neck is properly seated in place. I'd be inclined to buy a neck if it's missing.

I particularly like what you've done with the engine cover - It looks very smart and also different from all the other customisations I've seen - The silver and black are colours which look at home in an engine bay. Some of the ones done across the pond are horrendous imo - Burberry chav patterns even!

your car is looking great, what colour are you doing the seats? or is it a little surprise?

Oh, I beg to differ, would take yours any day (even though it only has 2 doors!)
I'm thinking I will go the OEM+ route and have Interlagos, but currently undecided, think that would look the best with the leather buckets?
Trying to decide on whether I should get the gearstick done, or the arm rest too?

....Personally and seeing as you're asking, I'd definitely use Interlagos - It's very oem and traditional and also looks good with leather or cloth. It's also very hard wearing and doesn't go baggy like leather.

Gearstick and arm rest might be a bit OTT, in my opinion, unless you're building a show 'n shine car.

Me again, only the one update.
Thought I had done well in 2011 to still only be on my first set of alloys, and that as a reward I should buy myself some new alloy wheels:

(appalling iPhone pics, will be taking it to a few of the scenic parts of Wolverhampton soon to get some better pics as these drive ones are awful)

Al big fella...

They're certainly different so you've got a niche at least, but not for me at all, sorry.

All of your wheels except that set have been absolutely excellent. Just my preference but they look like they belong on a bit of 'japcrap'  Not classy enough for your MK5 - just my five note  :happy2:

Right then.
Been about 3 weeks with no update, so here we go again!
Had a nice drive up to Bradford on Thursday where I picked up my R32 front brakes and discs which weigh a bloody ton!
Then drove just around the corner to Michael at MJ interiors, Thought that it was worth the journey as he is renowned as being one of the best in the country for upholstery and I knew he had the correct material thanks to Robin who gave me a heads up.
So enough talking, you want to see the results right?  :signLOL:

Not as far out as could have gone, the wife said I should have done red, as the red and silver theme is all over the car. But I decided that everything I am doing on the car seems OEM/OEM+ themed, so thought subtle rather than OTT modding would suit it.
And as a last minute fine touch I called Mike up and he did this for me:
Before:

To do this amount of work in 2 and a half days was mind blowing, the quality is perfect and he works to deadlines great, and at a reasonable cost too I might add!
More to come soon i'm sure.

I did ask about the R logo, and he said he could do it, but it would be difficult to get a  perfect match for the rest of the leather.
Trying to decide if a badge or some large embroidery over it would work?

Saw a MK2 Rocco with some originals on a couple of weeks ago, not seen them in flesh before.

Glad you recognise the style, fifteen52 make them and are all into the  retro looks and styles, think they are discussing doing the pirelli pslots too.
I have asked about an arch flare kit that they showed in PVW but it's on hold at the moment.

^ That is soooo very cooool!  :notworthy: Nice touch!

I think you've got the best of both worlds, Al: Cloth where you need it most and leather where you need it most. I wouldn't be at all worried about the .:R logo - I went through asking myself exactly the same questions. The .:R is all Golf. It's really not going to stop anyone buying either your car or your seats if/when you sell one day. Can you imagine someone saying no to it because of the .:R logo? Nah!

Hi Bruce,
I did think about doing the armrest, or just have a thin strip down the centre of it as the gaitor has been done before, but decided that I liked it too much to not have one myself!

Lovely car.  I've got the same RML rims and love them

Thanks for the compliments, Though I am gutted as I have not seen any other MK5's with them on, was getting a fair few glances in the que at Ultimate dubs, though they could have been saying 'look at those crappy RML's!'

I went to MJ interiors in Bradford who had the material in stock and did all the work too, have heard there is not much of it left in the UK.

Moi?  :innocent: :innocent: (think I've been rumbled!)
Ah well, why not show off my latest addition, been to the garage 4 times in 2 years to get different springs, coilovers, etc, and still couldn't quite get the look I wanted, so when I spoke to a few of the people on here in the know, and pestered them with a hundred different PM's, I decided this was the best way to go.
And when you spend on this kind of kit you have to go to the person who everyone recommends, so 100 more PM's to Luke and then this Thursday (a week ahead of my booked in date, I tootled off to Leicester and picked it up: (thought as the car is now so much sexier that it needed better pictures than on the driveway!)

Are those switches under the handbrake for it? If notwhat are they for?!

The switches are where the cup holder/bottle opener go. They are 4 seperate switches, one for each wheel to indipendantly alter the ride height.

And i am only on my work lap top but he picture quality looks to have improved, who took them for you.

...It was the wife who took them, she is a bit better at this than me

Glad you like it, gave it a good clean Yesterday on Tash's behalf whilst she was at work, forgot how quickly black goes dirty.
And filled her up with petrol (the car, not the wife ) cost the mighty price of £36  :surprised:
Always loved the Lupo GTI's since I bought my first polo about 8 years ago, but I skipped past it and started on Golfs.
Really nippy little gokart!

Not cheeky at all mate, I'm just over in Bushbury, so only about 5 mins for you.
What spec ED30 you getting? Would have liked an Eddy myself but would feel a bit guilty modding it as much as I have with this one as they are slightly rarer.

I wasn't even going to go to be honest, but put a post up about it on facebook, and Luke (plush automotive) replied saying to go up with him, next thing I knew I was driving up to Northampton at 6.30am and say in the show and shine arena. (didn't win anything though, no surprise!)

The lupo hasnt done enough miles to know how economical it is, the wife hasn't really driven it yet, think it's a 30 litre tank, have heard of people getting 300 miles out of them.

Hey Al if you are looking for some rims for your lady's lupo there seems to be a whole lot of loveliness on wheel whores just now that would be suitable for it.  Some pretty nice RSL Cults under £600 and a couple of sets of Gottis on the cheap, both need a refurb but would come up nice by the look of them.  I'd go with the RSL Cults personally and they are already gloss black centres so would look lurvly once done up a bit

Another little update before another BIG update   :pomppomp:

MK6 steering wheel, Still hoping to get highline fitted to allow full use of the controls.

Chrome light switch, which I think complements the steering wheel and chrome of the dash trim
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F004.jpg&hash=255079617dac962f206fda4714b64f199deffdc3)

And chrome window and mirror switches.

And also got some nice mats made to my spec with the GTI logo on, no pictures, but I think they are too nice to use as everyday mats, so may just save them for shows too.

Couple of weeks, or maybe show time before I reveal all new spendings.

I asked for the car without it.  I don't want an audi badge staring back at me when I'm driving a vw

When are the plans going to be done?

Is it just a 30 litre tank in the Lupo then Al?
How many miles do you get out of a tank? I'm really trying to justify one to myself as a second car

Just worked out the mpg off the first tank of fuel and it's worked out at just over 40mpg!

So if my calculations were right as you estimates were, about 350 miles from a tank?  :happy2:

244 miles from full to warning light coming on.  :happy2:

Fair enough, though I am a big fan of the S3 wheel apart from the logo in the middle.
MK6 one costs about £400 all in, as you need a steering module that is about £140, though they do look very nice.
Keep seeing them pop up in the for sale area here for a decent price. Tash is tempted by one for her Lupo but not sure what is involved to get one to fit. (and cannot find any without the stereo  controls)

There's some good bargains to be had on german ebay  I nearly bought a gti one but it was dsg and I just wasn't sure, then I put the money toward something for the air ride anyway!!

I think the mk6 wheel looks great, it's a nice touch for the mk5.

I will ask one of the guys round my way about the lupo as his one was very very special  was the blue lupo with the red interior that's won a few times at mivw and edition, Colin will know everything!

Super, do you have a link to his build thread so the wife can communicate directly?

Me again.
You know I said last update before a big update....Well, got another small update before a big update:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F0f8729a0.jpg&hash=e23bac00a6f309468d6cb36fea6db8097843ffea)
This was the result of 2 acts of stupidity that has been bugging me for a few months now, I bent in the wheel arch lining, but in doing so also caused the paint to flake off at a rapid speed that revealed lots of nasty metal, and also when letting the air out of my suspension with the wheels on full lock caused a nasty crease. So last week with the car at Chase automotive, got them to sort it out for me:

Amazed how well they did this, other arch is the same as this. (and a bargain price too)

Also brought Matsu's carbon grille, so they stuck that on for me:

And had the rear exhaust valance smoothed and painted, filled in the tow eye cover hole for a bit of symmetry. Just need to sort the reversing lights and maybe get rid of the GTI badge?!

Pretty sure that is the last small update now as the car is off again this weekend, feel like I never see her she is in the bodyshops that much lately.

Hi guys,  :pomppomp: :drinking: :pomppomp: :jumpmove: :star: :pomppomp:

Finally sat down for the evening (with a nice domino's)
Bit of an update on the car.
Took it back to Like on Saturday last week due to the plank at local garage cutting through my airline pipe.
Whilst it was with him thought it would be daft to not get some more work done on it, so although I do like the false floor that he fits, I fancied something a little more showy but subtle at the same time:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi143.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr122%2FSchnaffler%2F8e8e11f5.jpg&hash=6b35d559364db8f92bc2c4872bb08ff9dd9359aa)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi143.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr122%2FSchnaffler%2F75e1a7b1.jpg&hash=726fee8078ed4abd180693f20f3a071aeb31adc2)

And as I have alcantara around the dials and switches he fitted last time, that some more would do the trick and be something a bit different too:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr122%2FSchnaffler%2F45faf911.jpg&hash=d612a397beea7e9ca9ae02a97d7ae4cf9c868449)
(pics courtesy of Luke/plush facebook page as not got any of my own yet!)

To really compliment all this had Russz do a detail on it (review on the detailing threads)
Amazing job for someone who taught himself and does it in his spare time, and a really nice polite and generous guy to chat to.

And as a result of all the recent work:

Really shocked, could not believe it, as when I was watching the judges go around it they were stopping at all the parts that I knew were in need of a little TLC.
Though there was only first and second place awards in the MK5 class, so not sure if only 2 people entered. :stupid:

Really nice to meet you all and chat endlessly about motors, and whatever else took our attention
Still lots more planned though. :happy2:

Congrats Al, and thanks for the kind words :)

Heart sank when they asked me to open the engine bay, spent 2 hours yesterday morning before my best mates wedding (much to Tash's annoyance) cleaning the interior, but just didn't have time for the bay.
Sure the judges would have picked a lot more faults if I hadn't had your expertise to guide me through, and that quick detailer you gave me is great (again, according to Tash, I was too busy mingling to clean!)

Inpro smoked indicators fitted today, not too much difference to normal looking at the pics, but you can see the difference in person.

Thanks mate,
Spend a lot of time trying to work out what will go with what, and what I need to improve on it.

Small update,
Bought a second hand R32 bumper off ebay a few weeks ago and also got a US spec top half bumper,
I know how hard it is to find R32 bumpers in the UK with shortened recesses, so thought I would have a go myself as enjoy a bit of DIY and plastic welding.

Sized up the recess space and then got a cheap old lower part and cut out the number plate corners, this allowed me to glue and weld the pieces in to fill in the gaps without losing any shape of the recess.

welded it as best I could and then put a bit of E38 bonding on and smoothed it out.
Then off to the bodyshop it went last Thursday.

On Wednesday this week I got a phone call from them, they had bonded the bits I did a bit stronger, but when they put the 2 bumpers together, the US green one I had did not match in size, I have no idea why and can only guess that the US one is a slightly different size as the bottom part will also be?
So they suggested I get another top part, and they will cut out the top part number plate recess and fix it to another bumper.
Straight away got on ebay and found a bloke local in Birmingham who has loads in stock, shot over and got it and had it to the body shop in an hour.

Problem solved.......not quite

Went to collect it today, and as I was going to be fitting it alone they offered to help me with fitting.
3 hours later, and we have realised that the top part bumper I bought is not a genuine part, and as a result the lines are not perfect on it, they crease slightly and dont sit flush to the other panels.
Not got a pic yet, but will do one over the weekend, the plate recess looks 100 times better, but I am going to have to take my genuine bumper in and get that adjusted too I think as a show car with imperfections is a hanging offence!

Credit again to Chase Automotive for all the hard work that they put into the car and bumper for me though! :happy2:

I can't believe how many great cars are around here!!! This is an awesome car. I've read your thread some time ago but forgot to post my impressions. Congratulations for all the work!
Your car is a little bit too low for my taste but everything else is great.
Good luck with the rear bumper!

I can only echo Rex's comments, the car looks amazing with a lot of inovations, cracking work.

Waiting with baited breath for the outcome of the bumper.  :happy2:

It's crap to go through all that and then find out it's a fake part!  :fighting:

Hope you get it sorted. Might have to pay these guys a visit.

Cannot fault Chase, they were doing everything right, should have realised, it was some dodgy back alley workshop in Birmingham about 5 minutes from the Pleck Road.

Fortunately the mistake seemed to go unnoticed today at high peaks low dubs.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm7.static.flickr.com%2F6182%2F6065900363_fcd505240e_z.jpg&hash=0ddceedbcf1b7d0e88220d66bdf6b08386896e23)

Only one Mrs Al took at the show of the new rear bumper:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm7.static.flickr.com%2F6079%2F6065894027_5df4b67ccb_z.jpg&hash=f33f1da7c563a59283e605e03ae094d975167f2f)

Will be getting the bumper fixed soon, and possibly a couple of other small parts sprayed up such as battery cover, fuse cover as my engine bay has been slightly neglected compared to the rest of the car.

car is truly stunning mate! i spoke to luke at plush and he want almost 3k just for a budget air ride system. and i couldnt warrant paying that for it. so i've got Aps which should be ok for now. may keep and eye out for secondhand Air ride setup or may go down the Hydraulic side (Seeing as i can do Hydraulics) but see what happens.

Joe.

It's not cheap, but it really is good to know that you are having the best done, and that it is being done properly, Plush are doing about 3 cars a month for the last 2 years so you know it's done well, and you have after care with them too, I still have not heard a bad word about them.
I was there yesterday talking to Luke and he showed me all the botched jobs that had been brought to him for correction, parts rubbing holes through the bags  :surprised:, chassis notches that were in the wrong place and causing the driveshaft to rub.
Have not heard many good things about the hydraulics, but guess it's early days for it.

And Craig, thanks for the kind words, glad you like it mate. Hope to meet you at some point next show season so we can compare kits (think you are lower than me!)

Bit disappointed as the bolstering is like new, but the muppet couriers seem to have scuffed the sides a bit, and the seat area is a little stretched.
The quality of the leather is so much better than the R32 seats I have in at present, makes them feel like plastic.
Will have my old ones out on Monday and the new seats in (though probably not working due to the amount of wiring required!)

Don't VW plastic coat their leather seats, so it makes sense that you feel the difference in the leather?  :happy2:

VW use leatherette and Audi use proper nappa leather which is why you can tell the difference,

Looking good Al :happy2: get an hair dryer on the stretched leather it should go back :drinking: the skuffs can also be sorted with the correct dye.

Cheers for that Darren. (keep meaning to organise a meet up for you to fit cruise and highline, maybe sometime soon?)

Another little update, engine bay hasn't had much love, so over the winter that will be my little project I think. For now have just put in a little cover from forge that looks better than the standard black plastic.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F902524b5.jpg&hash=11c4a218f7ed24f14212117e72230996e5566b6c)

Over the winter going to get a couple of chrome parts, and also a couple of bits sprayed to match the car.

Just a couple of pics from the weekend to show the second bumper to be painted in as many weeks.
Was very last minute, picked the car up on Friday from the bodyshop, they only finished the painting on Friday morning...

The paint match is spot on, really happy now.
Also got a cheeky sticker that makes me and a couple of work mates chuckle: (simple things for simple minds!)

I said exactly the same thing to Tash yesterday about the plate recess. Too late now though, and could not find anyone anywhere that does the R32 US spec bumper, eve n VW don't have them, and to import them is a bit too expensive.

Not sure what else to do with it over the winter, think it's almost where I want it to be, Just smaller details for it now, then see how next season goes.

Thanks Mitch. Got some positive comments from a few which is always nice.
Was the last show of the season for the MK5 so it's going to have 4 months away from them to put up with the winter weather and come back all new next season.  :happy2:

PS, didn't even know there was a carpark for non show cars, though you should have just parked up along side the show ones, no harm in it, and was nice to be grouped up in class specific, first show iv been to which does that.

No real update, but had Del boys tyres off him the other day.
As my one wheel kissed a curb very lightly then I took them up to A1 in Wolverhampton  this morning, who have scored them all so that they match, and removed the scrape completely. Look as good as new now, and the tyres (215/35/18's) make the car look a lot lower, but on the drive home felt no different to the Vredesteins that were taken off, which was a surprise, maybe need to do a longer journey to decide for certain.
Couple of poopty iPhone pics of the new lows, still not quite laying frame, but I think as close as I can get:

Now in winter mode, picked up some CH reps yesterday off 8illy, fitted them last night and this morning.:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F7a9ea511.jpg&hash=ac1805373a52d3b854e0d38592d99ff608616ed7)

Also had Russ come over a couple of weeks ago and he gave it a full winter protection, some extra layers of wax/polish to keep the cold from ruining the paint even more!

Never updated with other purchases, fitted the votex splitter, which I love:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2Ff04d250c.jpg&hash=9bb681ad3213fb0262d473441477bad29b1c186c)

(cheeky woofit looking after the car through the window )

Noticed that the number plate mod (using magnets) was causing slight scratching as the grille is carbon, and very very shiny. So took off the magnets, and bought some double sided suckers, glued them on using some extra strong epoxy glue, then put some waterproof ductape on to make extra sure that the suckers come away on the right side and don't come away from the plate when removing:

Great idea Al, I need to pull my finger out and whip the front bumper off and do the magnets

I'm going to cover the magnets in soft durable tape from work to help prevent scratching.

At last, S3 Brakes, painted black for the steel parts and vapor blasted alloy parts.
Parts were shot blasted and painted in extreme temp primer (used on aeroplane brakes) and again in top coat black.
Was going to go for colour coding or red to match parts of the car, but when I saw these and the price for them then I couldn't resist. Can always paint the R carrier pads anyway. Hopefully fitting them in the next couple of weeks, but think I may need an extra flexi hose as the guy selling them couldn't find the pair.
(and may be remapping to stage 2 soon so def need more stopping power)

S3 brakes fitted, brand new pads as old ones had been used on the track a bit much I think. Not noticed much difference yet, but not done many miles.
Also got the autotech ARB fitted, bit firmer than stock, but nicely so. Reduces understeer noticeably.

Looks like your in PVW magazine again this month   pretty distinctive wheels and looks like the missus is helping to keep it slammed by sitting on the boot sill  :signLOL:

yep, 2 months in a row, I wasn't best pleased when I came back from the bog to see her sat on it like that either, though she assured me she had been very careful.   think I'll have the wheels on for next show season too as not got too much spare £ lying around to get new ones...

ARB is on the softest setting, can feel the difference and easy enough to change, so if not happy with it can adjust it, probably do WALK when a cheap second hand one pops up for sale on here too.

Went to do some cheap new years shopping at the Bull Ring today. (didn't find anything other than a dozen Krispy Kremes!)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F404468_10150574892413755_657513754_11097457_1316460858_n.jpg&hash=c06e51227cfcdc7535c593b976196182457d8b02)

But when we got to the car park, there were hardly any other motors around, so the wife told me to drop it (the car  :innocent:) and get a couple of pics, as everyone else seems to do the carpark ones and they look really cool sometimes, and she got a photoshop app on her iPhone.

Please excuse the off centre number plate, only a winter mod, as the suckers don't keep my pressed one on over winter due to the damp.
Think i'm replacing the rear bumper with something only seen on one other MK5 before in the next few weeks.

Interesting look on the CH's. Looks like an OEM+ car that you then fitted air too, rather than the other way round...

Personally, I'm a fan of the Helios wheels and even looked at them myself after the Audi splits. The one thing the drove me away was tyre cost as I'd always buy Continentals or Michelins in any tyre, and in 235/35/19, they're certainly not pocket money and too close to £1000 to stay a practical outgoing cost  :sad1:

So, I'd vote Helios  :happy2: And in a darker colour, you might really be onto something on your silver machine.

Thanks Pete, haven't seen you around here as much lately. Hope your motor is coming along too.
I had the Rotiforms on 19's a while ago, and on 215 tyres it was like having flat tyres,  so would probably go for 235's if I was to change them.
Got plenty of time to decide what to do.... :scared:

Nice to see you joined up Chris.
Real compliment to hear that you like it. Though if you read it from the start you can see a couple of bad choices I have made, and how much it cost me each time to rectify them  :stupid:
Love how it's looking right now,so after the interior then the spending is going to be minimal as got a house move in mind this year.
Will see you at UD too, you going to be at the Premier Inn?

Also, updates to the Lupo come when I have a bit of change lying around for the it (Even though it's Tash's!)

Right guys, Before I start the update, I will tell you there are no pics.....yet!!! (those will come in the next few days, or to anyone going to UD)

Pick up some parts tomorrow from the bodyshop.
Winter wheels part 2 are now fitted, thanks to RussZs for them. (monza reps with Vredestein wintrac tyres) Look forward to seeing how they handle in the rain.
Whilst fitting them I thought I would double check to see if the snowflakes fit over the S3 brakes, sods law, they don't!
So with 20 days to Ultimate dubs, some more parts to have returned with unique touches, and show wheels that don't fit any more I could get a bit stressed out, but I don't do stressed.
So off to see Greg Howells in the morning. I can't put spacers on, as the arch to wheel gap is so tiny already, so Greg is rolling the front arches, and fitting some spacers on to help aleviate the problem. (I hope)

Then maybe off to P Torque in Wombourne for a custom remap as APR/MRC which are all very good companies so I have been told, but are just a bit deer for me. :happy2:

Greg Howells is a legend!
Guy really knows his stuff, stuck the flakes on, and then grabbed a set of 10mm spacers and threw them on the front, only a tiny amount of arch work, as he didn't want to damage the sills and crack the paint, knew exactly what he was doing. He had some chrome nuts too so I had a set of them to really set the wheels off.

Then on the way popped to Chase Automotive to pick up some more of my parts, only 2 more to get now.
Here's a little taster of what's going on the car.

Not sure on pulling. Though Greg charged me £50 to roll mine.
Give him a call, really friendly and can accomodate most modding requirements.

Probably about another 7/8 mm, though they were more rolled just to prevent the catching when dropping the air out of the car, he can take them right back which would probably gove about 10+ mm,
When rolling arches you always run the risk of cracking the paint though. And as mine had already been painted they were quite weak and had some filler in them.

Had a few rest days at work, so just tweaking the little bits before UD, only 9 days to go now.
It's in for a detail with Russ on Sunday, so should look just a little shinier than it does at present.

Took off my winter wheels today, and whilst at it thought that the hubs could do with tidying up, so off to Halfords and got some gloss hammerite high temp paint. Just rubbed the metal for a minute or two with wire wool.

Also removed the old clips and put my R32 ones on, slapped my fingers a few times with them, and boy do they hurt, also glad my calipers are black, and not powdercoated, otherwise the neighbours would have had to close the windows from the swearing!

Before:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F9cd87f8c.jpg&hash=c552630ec8714a1c0ae87edba113c024ac5c0b7f)

After:
(with spacers on)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F6650f471.jpg&hash=ab2d65bb660d9511ef00005131047772a82515a4)

And how the R32 brakes fill the wheel so much nicer than the GTI ones, (with new chrome bolts too)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F6a36760a.jpg&hash=865a575b81974b622868640ac0720b9609123c84)

How the wheels fit with the 10mm spacers on, luckily the air pulls the wheels in at the last minute to get a nice tuck in.

Another late night update.
Remember those old rs4 seats that were in at the end of last season, all torn, stretched and sagging?

Sorry mate, don't tend to spend much time around my own car, like to look at everyone elses, and always feel in the way if hang around too long (never like going and looking at other peoples cars if the owners are nearby or sat in it.
Glad you like it  :happy2: wouldn't really call it unique though, as pretty much everything I have has been done to another car at some point.Just take my favourite parts of all the other cars I see.

Thanks to Markymark for allowing me to pinch one of his pics:
The lower part above the R32 diffuser was supposed to be silver, but the bodyshop isn't used to such random demands, so didn't realise, only picked it up 10 days ago so thought it would be a bit tight getting it painted up in time.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb246%2Fmarkoakes%2F009cbfbb.jpg&hash=1b0ec19a568f9bc869e3d895b354c14c9d5679d6)

The tracking is slightly out on the front wheels due to the airride, but going to Midland VW next week, think i'm going to put a bit of camber on the rear wheels and some 5mm spacers.

What's happening with the other wheels (CH's etc..), will they feature at the summer shows or are they purely for daily journeys?

CH's are sold, bought some monza reps with proper winter tyres instead.
Thinking of going for 19 inch CH's as well.

The Snowflakes are my daily alloys over the summer. :stupid:

Custom made, Dan Hartley did it on his white MK5 a while ago.
You have to get a US bumper, or a UK one if you prefer the wider number plate recess, then weld in an R32 diffuser and spray with rough plastic spray.
Glad people like it, should be spraying the top part in the next couple of weeks I think.

Greg Howell got first place with his supercharged R32, and Si Sweetland came second with his static ED30 (both 2 cars that are nigh on impossible to beat nowadays, so pleased to come third)

Hi mate. I saw your car today at edition. Top job on winning. I got lots of pics of your car. Look awsome in person. Didn't manage to say hi tho.

Should have come and said hi, was only a small show, but  spent most the day chatting to people who I have met over the shows last year.

Was going to pop over from the pod but didn't get from there till late. Well done Al

How was the pod? was in 2 minds about which show to go to, but had some Carbon bits to pick up for the interior at Early edition such as this piece: (weight saving, so it's a performance part!)

Picked the car up earlier today from the bodyshop, only small things that needed tidying up again, and colourcoded the lower rear valance (again, the car seems to almost be going around in circles.)

Which mags have you seen it in? Been in performance VW a few times from the show reports. but don't buy any of the other ones that it may have been in.

Are you wanting it like mine in the most recent pics, or how I had it done towards the end of last year? To get it like mine from last year a bodyshop will need to fill in the gaps at the sides.
To get it like I have now is quite involved and needs plastic welding and spraying.

Looks a lot better!!

But picking up today, it spent a few days in the bodyshop/it's second home sorting out a couple of little bits that I thought needed sorting (more on that after the weekend)
Took it to FAB polishing which is owned by couple of mates of mine, Simon Lees, and Mark Povey who everyone knows as the owner of the Bentley'd Passat. New company, but the quality of the work is amazing.
They have kindly sorted out some parts that really do let the car down and make it look very worn and used.

As you can see, and anyone at DC will see, the end result is definately worth it:

And a before and after of the masterpiece:

So geez

U decided on ur next wheels??

Daily wheels are sorted. (they will be on the car for Inters, Look nice but nothing too exciting.
Show show wheels should be on in time for my trip to MIVW in August.

3SDM's are really nice wheels, but as Craig said, they are cheap (due to being made in the UK so no importing necessary)
But know of 4 show MK5's that have ordered them already, and as they are such standout wheels don't want to follow the crowd.

Love it, Daily wheels & show wheels, thats how the other half live

I have to be honest I do like where 3SDM's seem to be heading tbh, the 005's are fairly common but theres something about which makes them very appealing I guess its the price and the rather lovely concave on the rear, But Im hoping your thinking about getting the 001's they are absolutly pukka, definatly an awesome wheel.

The package you've built here most wheels will look awesome tbh mate

CCW classics stunning wheel, beautiful finish, well made, monster price tag = exclusivity

game over! suit the mk5 platform down to the ground would make a great addition to any show car of this high standard

but im also loving Mr Als show wheels too  :drinking:

Had a nice weekend at GTI international just gone.
Spent the Saturday on the Auto Finesse cleaning stand. and then returned yesterday and entered the show n shine, which filled up about 30 minutes after I got in, so was quite lucky in that regard.

Couple of pics,
New wheels for the show, 18x8 front and 9 rear:

And pleased to come away with another trophy to show of all the hard work..... that my bank manager does keeping up with the incoming and outgoings.

Went to an 'invite only' mini show/bbq at Meguiars HQ yesterday. Cool little meet, had a nice assortment of VAG, Jap, And Oldschool cars too.
Real head turners, that just put ones like mine to shame:

Once that was done it was over to Tamworth for the second all dubs mega meet. A 9 storey carpark reserved just for Vag cars.
Around 400 cars arrived I believe. cool little meet.
Got to show off the smoothed front bumper, and recently retrimmed steering wheel and boot plastics.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F557086_480439905317388_2037868766_n.jpg&hash=720a4c3afd0163dc8d5daa3812329deb10c2d294)

And at the last minute the organisers decided it would be cool to get FAB finishing involved and create some trophies for some of the cars involved.
Very happy as came away from that with 1st MK5/6 of the night.  :happy2:

No mate. Went to MIVW for the weekend, set out Friday afternoon, just got home couple of hours ago.
Amazing show, lot of attention to detail. But interiors are largely ignored over there.
Def a weekend to return to though, 14 cars in convoy, including an RS5, B7 RS4, B5 RS4, MK4 R32, MK2 GTI, MK1 GTI, A5, Couple A3's

Glad you liked it. Even a guy at Asda came and had a chat to me about it today as I was loading up the shopping!

Couple of photo's of the little things that I have had trimmed recently:

Si Sweetland won it. He has the crazily low static Edition 30, with an awesome set of wheels and brakes.

Grande, Cheers for the pic (should really change the plate surround as I don't run with Fifteen52 wheels at the moment)
Need to come introduce yourself at one of the shows, nice to put a face to the car! :happy2:

John, It's nice to get the compliments from you, and glad that you don't look down at it as mine is pretty much all show, where as I know you are a real performance whore when it comes to VW  :signLOL:

mall update now that show season is done.

Not much done to the car, as it is all being saved for over the winter.
Went to Westside on Sunday, was determined to go as last year was great, and was sure the weather would hold out.....it didn't.
Wetside still had a good turnout though, and got to show off my new winter wheels/occasional show wheels courtesy of Outlaw (Rich)

Thanks to Chris for the photo:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F47125_10151098974683440_1933943324_n.jpg&hash=f88174f8afeb775433699d127135f934caddad09)

And came away with another trophy, great way to end the year.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FSchnaffler%2Fal%2F76289_466242420063842_158498812_n.jpg&hash=c859568cd6c372518a4bc7eb4de95c8030cb87a9)

Lots more to come over the winter, including some not often seen mods on the MK5,
Still using the car over winter as a daily and love driving it still.

Also to add that I had the car mapped a couple of months ago at Midland VW, so the motor is now stage 1 and running 249bhp. Feels great, though don't often take advantage of the extra power, just nice to have it there really

Though I do love them at the moment, and a few people asked already about them.
I'll be sure to let everyone get a fair chance when I do decide what new wheels I'd like next.

Just an update.
The car is doing Ultimate dubs in March, then going back to sort of standard and being sold on.
All mods are coming off, but most have been dibsed already.
Sad to do it, as still love the car, new house and child is preventing me keeping up in the modding stakes with the big guns of the MK5 world, and a 40 miles a day to work and back hammers the petrol consumption, so onto a diesel.
