If so what's your mileage at and have you encountered any major problems?
-
Mine has done 115k and it runs just fine. There is no record in the service book of any work done other than routine servicing.
-
RedRobin is over 108,000 miles, and IIRC has been tuned for most of it :drinking:
His is running beautifully, he will be around soon with a picture :signLOL:
-
Not a Gti but my Octavia Vrs (same engine as Gti) has 125k on it, 10k with a k04 turbo.
-
My last GTI MK4 Anniversary 1.8T had over 100K... SOLID! No Faults What So Ever!!
Apparently, some cars dont perform to there highest standard until they've dont a fear 40k Miles, probably not true but.. I kinda believe it LOL
-
Remember it's just a number on the milometer, modern engines can do half a million miles if looked after properly
Just like this VW 1.8t: http://blogs.menshealth.com/half-mill-man/the-automotive-autopsy/2012/04/19
Interesting that the engineers only identified minimal wear on components :surprised:

Any wheel bearings,dv valve or cam follower replaced as far as you know?
-
Ours is currently sat at 99k and no issues so far (touch wood!)
Service book has been meticulously mantained though by us and both the other owners before us so that definitely helps!
As others have said, it's just a number to be honest as long as it's been looked after.
Our old TT had only 48k on the clock when we bought it but that was a complete bag of spanners! :surprised:
-
mines on 98k so nearly there.
only just sorted my first problem with it which was the esp and abs lights coming on, just spend this weekend fitting a new bearing and speed sensor, it was fairly simple but hopefully that will be the last problem for another 98k!

Mine's just shy of 120k, so far I've replaced:
Wheels and centres due to white worm
Calipers all round due to seizing
Rear badge due to white worm
Rear wiper motor due to seizing
Rear light cluster water ingress
Front wiper motor due to seizing
Cruise control switch
Electric window pack
Throttle body
Coil pack misfire
Diverted Valve torn
Cam follower
PCV rough idle
Alternator pulley and belt
Maintenance free they are not! I've had 2 high powered SAABs that needed less doing with more miles, and people say they are problematic, hmm.
And now my rear window is cracked :( Not the cars fault i know, someone must have thrown a stone at it, but I think its going to need replacing before it shatters, my only worry is how to get the spoiler off... Sigh bit deflated now.
-
That's just bad luck though Scotty.
My old TDI had:
Alternator
Fuel temperature sensor
Boost hose
Clutch and gearbox*
*I am not really including that as I did a lot of tuning and drag racing which facilitated upgrading the clutch and blowing the gearbox
In 150k. :)
You might find a car with your list of problems that's done 50k or a car with only one or two things from your list, that have done 300k.
-
True Jay, but to be fair most of those issues are common... PCV, TB, DV, Cam Follower (albeit preventative), white worming alloys and badges... Oh and I forgot to mention the rusting issues, that are probably cheaper to DIY unless you can find a dealer willing to cover the full bill.
No car is without issue, I understand and have experienced that, and for the most part I will try and DIY so its quite cheap... I'd hate to think how much I would've spent at VW. :scared:

Not as far as I know. It was serviced by VW up to 80k then non franchised garages up to 104k and I have just changed the oil at 114k.
-
Not a GTi but my GT TDI 170 is currently sat at 122k miles, the last 20k of which has been since Feb this year.
Other than servicing every 8-10k miles it has had
4x Replacement injectors and wiring loom (under recall so FOC)
Replacement Boost controller
Replacement clutch and DMF
Front Brake discs and pads
Replacement left heating duct temp sensor
Replacement windscreen
I adore the car as it ticks all the boxes for me and driven normally i get 48mpg/550 miles to a tank based on my 100 mile daily commute. I am due to start a new job next and receive a car allowance with the position, one of the conditions is that the car must have less than 100k miles on the clock, as a result the Golf is being sold :(
Aprt from the expected stone chips and imperefctions

I got 120k on my 07 gti. No major issues so far. Saying that the instrument cluster is currently being looked at and I think I have a dodgy DV but I do alot of miles and I have a heavy right foot! I recon she's still got another 100k in her yet. :happy2:
