Post by: swgti on October 22, 2013, 09:35:53 am
Just had the Mrs on the phone our A4 170tdi has just gone into limp mode and the glow plug light has come on along with the engine light, the recovery people are on their way. Probably a million and one things but just wondered if anyone could give me a heads up as to what it could be if its a common fault????

If it has a DPF its probably clogged. Common problem on the Golf 170 GT TDi's.

Really hoping that it wont be that, thought the DPF had it's own warning light? and so far it's just the two that have come on.

Update : its reading fault code for exhaust temp sensor and the engine light has now gone off and plug light flashing intermittently, still under warranty so it's off to dealers.

Wasn't "001350 - Sensor 1 for Exhaust Temp Bank 1 (G235)" was it? Think that's quite a common one. Its the exhaust gas temp sensor that's in the turbo.

Not sure of the codes, that was one step too far for a stressed out wifey, it should be with the stealers shortly anyway.

As said above...dpf has its own warning light when it clogs up...

Getting it back today, it was the exhaust gas recirculation valve/sensor apparently, I'll find out exactly later when I see the invoice, thank god it is still under warranty as I've been told it was about £400 to fix :surprised:

Sensor itself is something around £100...
