Just curious as to what everyone thinks on this as a race from rolling start? Who wins?

I used to own a 305 bhp ed30 with DSG and now own an E39 M5 so can make a reasonable judgement.

Personally I think unless the car was at stage 2+ then M3 all day long. Puts power down better and pulls harder after 100

Upto 60 the KO4 might stand a chance.

Stage 2+ ko4 be very close with e92 m3 till 150-160 IMO

A Stage 2+ K04 will beat an E90 M3, but will be very close. Obviously the M3 will win off the line, but rolling, 2nd gear onwards the GTI will win, just. What gives the GTI a chance is torque. Even though the M3 has 420bhp it only has 295lb/ft.

E92 M3's are FAST! I reckon a proper set up Stage 2+ car will just keep up, but into big speeds I think the BM would pull.

M3 is in wrong gear?...the Golf driver asks for a Fourth gear run but an NA motor will probably need to be in a lower gear and closer to it's peak power.

The Golf is probably around 360 + HP and lighter. Torque figures without RPM don't tell us the whole story though...

Well the RS4 and the E90/92 M3's have similar power and I know at least one person who wiped the floor with an RS4 with his stage 2+ ED30 up to 130mph. Our very own VtecAbuser..Ben  :smiley:

Only RS4s that have just had the gunk removed from their inlet valves, though...

you will win especially if your pal doesnt know his peak power band

ask him for a 3rd gear roll from about 4500ish rpm

should be close really if you take out the skill of the driver its down to

ko4 stg2+ - more torque and bhp/ton

vs

m3 - more top end power and RWD
