Title: eBay splitters?
Post by: woahnowboys on October 23, 2013, 09:46:18 pm
Anyone got one of these eBay splitters? The ED30/Votex style ones?
Just wondering how they fit, and if anyone has any pictures?

I am also looking for a new splitter but struggling to find any! Is ebay the best place to pick one up or am I better waiting it out until one comes up on here?

How about this one? Feedback seems okay.. I just can't justify spending £250 on an unpainted splitter which will be likely hammered against the floor a few times :scared:

Ive got that saved in my watch list... I've been informed it fits perfectly but would be great if someone can clarify this?

Its fibre glass and not ABS plastic, a lot less malluable and durable but for that price you may as well, its cheap as chips.  :happy2:

Yeah, it's clear the VW one will last longer haha..
But the only thing I'm worried about is that I might be forking out £100 for something that won't even fit on :signLOL:

I'm also watching that one, but it's slightly more expensive, and takes longer for delivery.
Obviously if anyone knows that one fits okay then it's worth the wait though!

IMHO I'd avoid it AND the other one linked in this thread.

As with the other one linked, its fibre glass so could have issues. If it doesn't fit, it's next to impossible to make fit.

Below is a part of the advert you've linked, pretty much tells you it won't fit  .........

All parts are unpainted. They must be carefully checked and prepared prior to paint and installation.
Buyers by purchasing accept that some items may require adaptations to enable a perfect fit. We strongly advice that the product should be installed in a appropriate manner by a competent person i.e. an expert.

Haha yeah I was thinking that was maybe just a 'covering their asses' sort of thing.. I think I'm just clinging on to any possibility that it'll fit :signLOL:
Someone on here must have some experience with them :sad1:
Or is there a company like FK or something that make reps?
Title: Re: eBay splitters?

Someone like Rieger or Oettinger make aftermarket ABS Plastic parts for VAG cars. Personally I'd get an OEM genuine one (albeit they are pricey) or spent the £70-£100 on a F/G one and take a chance, it may well fit a treat, luck of the draw.

 :happy2:

Post by: woahnowboys on October 25, 2013, 10:48:15 pm
Reigers and Oettingers are a bit too aggressive looking for my tastes, obviously on the right car, they look spot on, but ED30/Votex look a bit more OEM IMO.
I really can't afford the dealer's price, so I guess it's a matter of waiting until a bargain comes up, or until someone finds a good rep. :sad1:

EDIT: Just found this.. The bend in the middle looks terrible

I just bought one of these too. Also just read the Vortex forum review. It does look like the screw tabs are bent the wrong way. :sad1:

Will update this thread once I take delivery, then after painting and fitting. :-S

Even the genuine votex one has bent tabs when it comes new ..due to the gap in the front the, tabs when bent and screwed in help pull the spoiler straight ...I thought this when I got my genuine votex one

Sounds good. Thought worth a punt as not made of fibre glass, plus comes with side fittings. Will trial fit once arrives then take to body shop for paint.

What do people think, all tornado red, or red and black centre?

Mine arrived today  :happy2:

Very pleased with initial look/feel. I know is never going to fit aswell as OEM. But must say very impressed with this one. As made out of plastic is very flexible (can twist and bend for better fitting) like the genuine one would be, plus has side fitting kit which will allow adjustment for better fitting. The tags look like are all in the right place, plus the underside tags are easily flattened so fitting them will be as same as OEM.

For the money (£98) versus OEM (think current price for a Votex one is £250 plus VAT) I would say this particular one is good value for money. Will drop off at the body shop this week.

Some pics:

Packaged up very well:

I ideally wanted to wait & be sure of the quality and fitment but at £100 its worth the risk rather than missing out!

Will get pictures up when arrives!  :happy2:

1K0-071-609-AX is what I found. Possibly out of date, but the dealer should be able to get it from that anyway.

Thanks for your help, they are crazy money for a bit of plastic, does anywhere do an equivalent like the eBay e30 ones?

The gap look spretty poor, all over the place. Do you think this will change once it's fitted and te tabs pull it out?

I've yet to open mine yet. Will post photos when I do.

I agree, that fit looks pretty poor to be honest, the gap along the center and the way it curves around the edge of the bumper.. Hope it turns out better when painted!

Like the ED30 replicas.. Not sure how this would fit your Golf. The fact they've got a 3D model rather than a real car as the photo is probably an indicator to them not being able to install it on a real car. :signLOL:

Bearing in mind that would only fit onto the bottom of a Votex splitter and for pre-facelifts only.
In that image it's the tiny little black bit out the bottom, not the whole splitter!! Don't tell you that clearly haha  :fighting2:

That's ridiculous, but you're right, you can only really tell from that last photo. :stupid:

Found this one :http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk5-3-5-Doors-Front-Bumper-Spoiler-Edition-30-/360271790741?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+V&hash=item53e1df4295

It's similar or the votex ones but without the cut outs in the middle , genuine ones seem hard to come by in the uk

The number of peeps over the years who've nearly bought that splitter thinking its THE splitter!

As for the VOTEX looky likely splitter, I will be interested to see Si's when its on. Can't decide whether to buy this or spend the extra for a OEM VOTEX and swap out my Eddy one.

I bought a genuine Votex splitter rather than go down the route of a copy incase of fitting problems.

Fits like as dream!  :happy2:

Must say am very very pleased with it. Over the years I have always fitted OEM kits etc after a nasty experience with a replica spoiler on my old Mk4 RS Turbo.

But this fits, I dare to say, perfect. I was expecting a nightmare, but only took an hour. Longer to get old one off and take pics than fit this. I've only got a few mobile shots as I fitted it tonight in the garage. All clipped into place very well and nice and snug fit. Follows the line of the bumper, no gaps, and finishs perfect at each end.

All the holes for the screws line up. Just the arch bits left to fit, as they are still in my desk draw at work  :ashamed:

I know a different model but I had a genuine Vortex splitter fitted to my Mk4, and must say this fits aswell, helped buy fittings underneath.

Now I'm sure a genuine E30 or Vortex would fit even better but will give this full marks for effort. Better pics soon, promise.

Very pleased  :jumpmove:

Sorry for poor pics, been a long weekend with new wheels as well  :happy2:

It fits "OK"
I wouldn't call it good. You can see around the edge in the pictures it doesn't quite line up, and the plastic in the middle is all wonkey.

For £100 or whatever it's not bad but for me I wouldn't run one.  :ashamed:
If you're happy that's what matters.

Never going to fit as well as the standard GTi splitter, but feel this fits very well for what it is.

End supports are fitted yet, to be fair doesn't really need them. I was expecting them to be needed to hold it tight in at the edges, but all lines up neatly. All lines up well Jay, more my dodgy camera work  :sad1:

Middle underneath went a little wonky in the oven, guy said he could redo for me so flat. But better once fitted, plus is underneath so I feel will have a scrap or two in a few weeks  :ashamed:

Will get some better pics up asap.

I'm gutted, since starting this thread I've bought a standard GTI splitter.
And I couldn't do the swap if I wanted to, the standard splitter takes a beating on the speed bump into the car park, no matter how slow or what angle I go at :sad1:
Oh well, at least we know you can get well-fitted replicas. Even if they've gotta be tweaked a bit.

Looks great for what it is. Was looking for kne but could only find fibreglass which iv been told to avoid.
Title: Re: eBay splitters?
Post by: xjay1337 on November 18, 2013, 02:58:54 pm
Put it next to a car with a genuine one and the differences will be there. But for a third of the price it looks really good  :happy2:
Yes fibreglass is terrible, it chips/splinters and simply isn't as durable, the quality is far less and it's much more difficult to fit/remove without damaging/breaking.
Back in the mid 90s Fibreglass body panels were all the rage , not anymore..  :scared:

I think that looks pretty darn good! Excited to get mine prepped, painted & fitted now! well worth the £100 in my eyes!

Jay is right in saying that it will look vastly different next to a genuine one but stand alone it looks pretty sweet!

I thought I posted this yesterday (what an amazing forum........)

However my friend has done it to his pre-facelift. It's an aftermarket ED30 splitter but bolts straight onto a valance. Think it looks good.
