Just been out in my car, and still amazes me how rapid it is for a stage 1 ED30..... it got me thinking. To get a better/quicker/more fun car would cost be the best part of £20K plus my car, and it will come as no surprise that as a musician I dont have that lying around! :signLOL:
So the plan is to keep my car and just keep it maintained properly and fix things as an when they break.
Who else will do the same?
-
Been through that fashion stage, now onto the comfortable stage (stock), so I see no reason why not too, the car offers all I need want and it's fun to drive! :happy2:
-
been through the same thoughts Rich..Would like a r32 but the running costs don't justify it plus all my kids take my mummy :happy2:
-
Toyed with the idea of changing it recently, it didn't last long.
This one will stay with me to the bitter end :driver:
-
I'll be keeping my mistress until she won't give me anymore. I've thought hard about getting a Mk6 GTI or R but why??
New suspension, poly bushes, a font end respray and she'll be good for 5 more years. :pomppomp:
By the by, my brother has a mapped B8 S4 and is properly impressed with the new map on mine, couple more mods and I'll av him!! and he paid £37k!! Pound for pound, who has the better car?
-
I originally wanted an R32 but was still an apprentice and so went for the GTI, then really wanted an R32 again when my mate got a shadow blue which was what I wanted originally.. But after test driving one, only the sound was better... Now I'm over the R32 stage... Love this GTI!
-
No plans, just loving it at the moment :driver:
-
although not a GTI, I'm in the same place with the S3, it goes, stops, handles and it would cost to find anything quicker on day to day roads, so for the foreseeable future its staying, saying that I've had it 5 years now :happy2:
-
And seen as though the mk3 and mk4 gtis were a bit of a flop.. Hopefully we will appreciate if I keep it until I'm 40 :stupid:
Or is that wishful thinking from a 21 year old hahaha
-
If/when mine goes pop, it will be an excuse to whack a full engine build and big turbo on it rather than sell it!
Not many cars at a decent price point that can do 0-60 in 3.5 and 0-100 in 8.5. :driver:
-
i would happily keep mine but baby no.2 is brewing :jumpmove: so am not sure if will be able to once need more space
enjoying mine now finished modding it (well am considering loba hpfp, ttrs lpfp and unibrace rb but apart from that....)

I think I'm into my Ed30 for a good while yet.
It recently had a 'couple' of mods "ahem" done by Alex @ AKS.
The suspension is now superb and has the elusive 'ride quality' with handling that I was looking for.
It goes like stink and is fast enough and most importantly fun enough for my daily.
When I ordered it new in early 2007 I could only really afford a couple of options.
So just went for Xenons and a sunroof onto my 3dr Candy White manual car. And even nearly 7 years on I still like it.
Only just hit 40,000 miles so need to get some more use out of it.
Of new options out there only the new Golf R floats my boat personally. Is one of them worth 30K plus mine. Not sure for my world.
So stick with what I know.

Good to see so many of you with the same idea as me. :drinking:

All cars start to fall apart at some point, the engines and gearboxes of modern motors are generally quite robust (if serviced well) but annoying ancillaries fail, which can add up if you can't DIY them.
Unfortunately I've found the MK5 GTI the most unreliable car I've owned and that's 10 cars now, so far I've replaced..: DV/PCV/CF/CV/CP/SP/C/W/RB/WC/FWM/RWM/WA/TB/CC, so when does it go pop? They don't, but you replace about every other part before things get so bad they don't move.
Like when pople say, I've got 250k on my car... yes, but A. How much have you spent to keep it on the road and B. What is it like to drive; I bet neither answer is a good one.
-
On my 3rd mk5 golf variant now, started with the 1.6, then the GT and for the last year the GTi. Love it to pieces, still puts a smile on yer face each morning driving to god forsaken work :happy2:
-
I love mine, but I would buy a mk6 R when they drop a bit more in price. I think they look great and I'd be interested to see how differently it drives.
-
Im planning to buy a mk1, mk2, mk3, mk4 and mk6 and keep the lot to create a mini golf family. Not sure whether my wife shares the same level of enthusiasm...
-
I'm keeping it forever...whether it needs a new motor, tranny, or anything else. I just ordered a new K04+ tune programmer from DM tuning. DM will customize the tune for even more power when I replace the connecting rods for any reason. So whether or not it needs new rods...the mkv is getting them regardless ;p

Νo plans for a new car.
Needless.
This car is still capable to create a stupid smile on my face every time I drive it.
Just like my Mk2........... :innocent:
-
I was toying with the idea of getting rid of mine recently (as I hardly drive it these days) so I bought a scooby wrx   with the idea of selling the golf, but luckily I didn't. I'm now going to fit a K04 turbo and the LSD I have in the garage and she is going to be a keeper
-
Very nice choice ;p
-
Im planning to keep my gt tdi for a few more years yet,iv added various bits even though is well specked when i bought it...as far I'm concerned it good on fuel & nippy,i will be getting it remapped when iv got the suspension sorted i.e. new h&r anti roll bars - polly bushes & lowered on sport lines.
-
I wish we had access to the POLO here...I want two of them. One with a 1.4t and one TDI for mpg ;p
