Hi guys,
How easy is it to check cambelt condition on these cars? Do I have to pull the whole cover off?
According to my VW service book it has been done recently but I just want to check for sure.
.
Thanks

If I open this will I be able to see the cambelt?

Don't know what that thing is as I've never really paid attention to the cam cover on the gti but normaly the top half cover of the timing belt (the one in the pic) comes off they normaly held on with a few torxs then it should just lift up

You have the early AXX engine which has the one piece cover with the inspection window. Pop that off and you will be able to see the belt. Can be hard to see if it's been done before.

I have just done my cambelt and water pump and it was simple and it cost me £86 for the kit and £27 for the pump from tps there is a guide on here on how to do it

Thanks,
It has been done before (got confirmation from volks) I just want to see if it has been tampered with.
cheers
