Standard air con owner here..........
So if the light on the air con / econ is on, does this mean air con is on or off??????????????
I just can't work it out!!
:fighting2:
-
Off. Econ = economy as I understand.. No air con.
-
Yep as above Econ for better fuel economy, turns off the ac otherwise it's on
-
Light on = aircon off
Light off = aircon on
-
I take it you might have a problem with your aircon?
You would be able to tell which is on or off if you turn temp gauge to lowest.

Thanks guys

I spent a LONG time trying to figure this out. The reason it was s much trouble for me (and the people on here who helped me out) was because the air-con was misbehaving. If the E-Con light is on, Air-Con is off. If you can't tell the difference between the two then your air-con system is buggered.
Could need a simple re-gas, it could be the pressure switch (you better hope it's one of these two) or it could be the pump.

also didnt VW change the button operation at some time in 2005/2006? Prior to that is was you pressed the button for economy model (i.e A/C off) - but people were confused by it so change it to A/C button - light on = A/C on. Light off = A/C off.
So it could depend on the age of your car!

I changed my control panel for the newer version with AC button instead of ECON which lights up when AC on. A simple and possibly pointless mod, but I prefer it.

Yes they did
I don't see how it can be confusing really.
Econ=Economy mode.
The climatronic cars are the same with an ECONbutton...

Just so you know, I did this in my 11/2005 TDI and aircon stopped working, it was being switched off right away at the ECU, but on the surface all seemed ok.
A VCDS measuring block confirmed it.
Happened to others also but doesn't necessarily mean yours will be affected the same.

We have a golf and jetta ...56 plate jetta with econ button 57 plate golf with ac button ...we never press econ on the jetta and leave air con on ...these are both diesels and tbh it makes no difference to fuel economy at all in fact the jetta is better on fuel and returns 600 miles to tank were I get 520 in the golf lol

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but I've just done the same, did you ever find a solution for
this or work out why it happens?

Does anyone know why this button reversal occurs? I assume it's just the software on the climatronic controls and there's nothing you can do about it...
