I have used vcds successfully for resetting the service reminder in my octavia vrs (2006) before, but now, trying to do it with my golf (2005), it doesn't appear to be working. It says "service reset complete" or something similar on vcds, but the "service now" reminder remains and boings up everytime I start the car
Do I have to do a few miles in it first (I've already done about 10), before it resets? In the octavia, the mileage until service due takes a few hundred miles to reset, when using the variable servcing function, but the actual service reminder disappears immediately iirc.
Or, has the fact that I've changed the can gateway (when upgrading my head unit), got something to do with it?
Any help appreciated!

is your service set to long life or time and distance?
-
I believe you hold down the 0.0 trip reset button on the dash...turn the key on...release the 0.0 button and press the M(minutes) button and release it within 20 seconds of releasing the 0.0 button. Turn the key off and back on to check if it has gone away...no need for vcds for this ;p

Currently set to time/distance, but trying to set to variable. (I know this is not recommended and I don't intend to leave it more than 12mths/10k, but am perplexed as to why this won't work)...

Have you tried to do as I suggested yet?

No, not yet. I know I can do it the manual way, if all else fails. My question is, why is resetting to the variable regime, through vcds, not working.
-
Not sure as I always did it via the dash buttons...I've seen the stuff somewhere while using vcds...so try this:
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/main_screen.html Select SRI Reset...Or use the Drop Down and select Service Reset. The vid may help...
