Matt (Bignod) just had the same problem on his Cupra K1.
Think it was a £200-ish fix (Dealer price) for the new door controller doo-dah fitted.
I'll send him a link to your thread :happy2:

Didn't know Matto had done a How-to. :congrats:
Great write up Matt. :notworthy:
No doubt I'll be doing mine one day. It looks like they are a common fail on our cars.

Great write up on how to replace but how do I get the door open? Apart from the stated banging the area where the module is any other ideas?

Looks like another pricey repair bill :ashamed: but thanks mate!

did mine for £40/50 bought a part on ebay.... mine was a biach to do and took several attempts as the module refused to unbolt so couldnt get the skin off....
you'll need to clear the code in VCDS too as it will show as a fault (only found that out the other day after a mate scanned the car... doesnt affect the use but you may want to clear it anyway)
good luck

How did you get the skin off or unbolt the module in the end mate?

Have a look at matteo's how to... You need to unlock the module from the side of the door shut, take off the door handle and then take off the door skin... Then you have access to the module that you just take out and replace.
-
If the door is stuck shut you need to hope and prey that it will open otherwise the only way in it to cut the door kit. Not good. I would make sure you get yourself a new lock module, either from ebay or the dealer first before even attempting to get the door open. Because once its open do not shut it again.
Mine took a good 10 mins of locking/unlocking, banging the door and pulling handles before it would open. I know some haven't been so lucky and it has stayed shut but then has randomly opened again a few days down the line.
Just makes sure you have the spare and keep trying to get that door open.
-
Not easy but if all else fails watch this video - if you can short out the two exposed wires it could well let the door open if that's the fault.
This would mean minimal damage compared to destroying both the door card, door lock/latch and what ever bodywork!

Ok mate seems so much aggro all over a stupid design on there locking module. :stupid:

Also wheres the best place to pick up a new locking module? Or is it a stealers only part...

You can get them from the dealer but you're looking £100+. The first one I bought was from the dealer but the second one I took a punt on ebay for £30 and was ok. Obviously there is a risk buying second hand stuff.

I wouldn't take the risk on the lock module. I got a new one on ebay for 55 £.

Is the door controller linked to the windows aswell ? My rear n/s door won't open and the electric window won't work either ! Both occurred at same time
Is this the part to fix the problem ?

That isn't an oem module. They're probably fine though.

Can't remember from memory but don't think it is. Is yours a 5 door as I've heard the door wiring looms can break causing similar issues.

Yes 5 door

.
I'm getting this problem randomly on my 05-plate 5-door Mk5 GTI but opening the door physically via the lever from inside works fine.
Mine is on the front passenger door.
-
So my R/N/S door won't open and also the same door window won't open either , its got to be the wiring hasn't it ? Anyway i have opened and closed the central locking about a hundred times and the door fails to unlock , any ideas how to undo it to get at the wiring ?

Anyone?

So if i take this problem to VW what will they do ?
Can you access the wiring with the door still locked ?
I can see the wiring for the door comes from the door into the B pillar ??
-
If it's the door lock module the last resort is to cut through the door skin. You should bring it to the dealer - they may have a trick or two up their sleeve to avoid this eventuality.

Charge you an arm and a leg

So the fuses have been checked for my "Rear Passenger Door Doesn't open" problem and they are ok
I need to open the door to rectify the wiring or the module problem (possibly wiring as the window doesn't work either) so how do i get the door open ?
Google search shows how to remove the door card but thats only shown when the door is open , i can't get at the botton torx screws ! Otherwise it would be reasonably easy
Any other help greatly appreciated :happy2:

My passenger door isn't opening either. It started off as intermittent but now it just won't budge! (3 door)
Spoke to the master technician at VW today and he came and had a look. They've ordered a new lock etc.
I asked the question how to get the door open and he says firstly we will try with 1 person outside & 1 person inside pushing and pulling whilst trying the handles! If this fails they will take the window out and get to it that way?? Says its a tricky job, about an hours worth off messing about but that's how they've done it in the past.
When I mentioned I'd heard of people having to cut the door skins or panels he said that was a bit extreme and hasn't had to do that.
We'll see, it's in next Tuesday!!

Well my cars in at Wolsey VW Ipswich , they have diagnosed the problem , so they say £349 is the cost , although i haven't got the car back yet ! The service advisor said it was the r/n/s/ door module , does this effect the working of the electric window as both occurred at the same time ? Hope its sorted tomorrow , i've got a Golf Plus 1.6tdi Bluemotion for 2 days !
-
Cars back , window and door lock sorted
£190 Labour £150 For the Module
This seems a regular problem , anyone know anybody who has had and success with VW Customer Service to see if they will contribute to the repair ?
-
Pleased they sorted it for you.
What was the part number of the module - seems expensive?
-
Says
5K0959703VW3
On the invoice - Shown as a Motor ??
£130.94 + VAT
-

That's because you've had the window motor regulator replaced "not the lock module assembly"!
-
you could have bought the motor of ebay for around £30 and you could have changed it yourself
only 3 screws hold it in place, although you would have had to get the door card off first
-
Spoke to VW about what they replaced under the above part number reply is below
" I can confirm that this item is correct – it is actually a motor and control unit combined. we cannot change the part description as this is as described by Volkswagen but for warranty purposes we know exactly what has been replaced "
Did anyone know this ?
-
It is the door controller for the rear door which also is the window motor
as i said it could have been a cheap fix, at least you have 2 yrs warranty on it. although that won't be transferable if you sell the car

Better not sell it then

garrardrj Did VW ever tell you how they got the door open? I have exactly the same problem on my passenger door of my 3 door Mk5 GTi. I've tried the trick with the pick and doesn't seem to have worked. I've got no electrics on the passenger side at all (central locking, window), even if you try from the drivers side controls or the key, so I'm pretty confident it's a motor like yourself or the wiring loom. There is something also draining my battery so I'm hoping it's all linked together.
If I can just get this door open I can look!
