Title: Tyre Valves
Post by: Carla77 on November 07, 2013, 09:49:12 pm
Hi,

Front offside tyre seems to be losing pressure quite quickly and I've been having to pump up the tyre every few days.

Took my car to a local garage and asked him to check if there was a problem with the valve and to replace - he then said that the ones for our car cost arond £70 as they incoporate the sensors that link to the tyre pressure warning light on the dash. I was also told that most people with our cars change these for a 'normal' valve if they have any problems.

Anyone had any problems with the valve; is it true that they're £70 to replace and do people tend to swap them out with the 'standard' valves.

Cheers

Total BS!

The UK and EU cars don't come with a TPMS associated with the valve but the North American ones do. Our system relies on the abs sensors to detect changing rolling circumference.
Depending on your rim you may need a special VW metal valve but otherwise a standard valve should work.

This..

Should only really be the cost of fitting a tyre, as the cost of a valve is included in that..

Monza's? They do have two different types of valve that can be used. The early BBS version 'hollowtech' can only use a certain type of metal valve that are approx £17 each. But as above the TPMS i do not believe.   :signLOL:

Cheers guys....I have a 54 reg so it's probably the metal valve that the guy is talking about. However, big difference between £17 and £70 and the tall tale about the TPMS!

Thanks again.

My monza's are from an early car, 54/05 i think and require the metal type valves. I believe they can be reused. Fingers crossed i'll find out next week when i try fit my winter wheels.  :signLOL:
