Title: Springs Springs Springs
Post by: WhiteGTI on December 03, 2008, 11:30:57 am
Right....

My knowledge of suspension is shocking, so please bear with me!

Can't really afford coilovers, so it rules them out unfortunately.

I want to make the stance of the car better, hence why I want to lower it. So Im only really going for aesthetics!

What are decent springs to go for, and what is the suggested lowering amount? I don't want to be scraping the front splitter everywhere I go, however I want the gap between the tyre and the arch minimised as much as possible!

By lowering the car, how will the standard shocks cope? (I don't plan to change these)

By lowering the car, will it adversely affect handling? Im guessing that its only really going to improve body roll...

Thanks all, really appreciate it!

the pro kit will give you 15mm and the sportline give about 30mm but as i go on a few track days 15mm would be perfect for me

I have the Eibach's too  :happy2:

Really happy with them as it hasn't seemed to have compromised the ride and the car is flatter through the twisty's!

You may be right Rob, but when I ordered they said they'd checked with Eibach themselves and it was all that was available? be interested to find out if this were true or not..............

Ok, so apart from Eibach, what other manufacturers are worth considering? Just looking at a couple of Golf tuning websites, I can spot:

Koni
Neuspeed
Spax
Apex

Anyone got experience / comparison of these?

The H&R springs are suppost to do the job very well. Neg has them on his car but in conjunction with Koni FSD's and they look the bollocks. Cant imagine there would be too much difference with standard shocks  :happy2:

....

As someone posted earlier, I've got Eibach Pro-Kit (and KoniFSD's to be hopefully replaced but Nathan has first dibs on the new replacement FSD's).

VWR have just told me they can fit my KW coilovers 6th January, so that's when I'll also have some Eibach Pro-Kit springs for sale - They'll have done about 55k miles.

....I'm not up to speed on this whole thread, but have you spoken to the suppliers? Or KW UK? - I expect they will advise all they can to help you.
