Title: Mk6 GTi/GTD gear selector
Post by: vaheedakhtar on November 15, 2013, 04:26:26 pm
Would it fit a mk5?

I'm not overly fussed about the actual handle, as I'm sure it can be swapped, but would the unit itself fit?
I'm certain I read that someone had done the swap on here for the visual effects, rather than out of necessary.

It seems my recent problem is indeed down to the actual shifter/selector, rather than the mechatronics unit - which is a relief!

Thanks.
Title: Re: Mk6 GTi/GTD gear selector *update* urgent advice required

I've managed to find a same year (06) gear selector for my golf - however, it is from a Diesel car.
I'm getting mixed advice from people though, as the part numbers are different: here's what they're saying:
VAG Indy specialist: the part will fit but MAY need coded
VW: the part will only work once coded, but will work.
VAG parts seller: it will work but will need coding.

None of them sound 100% to me though.

Can anyone advise please? I'm pretty sure it will fit but won't work, unless it's coded. What sort of price am I looking at to have some coding done by VW and will they be willing to help if the part isn't bought directly from them?
