After carrying out a successful 381x fw update I lost my maps - as expected.
The problem is that I'm struggling to upload the DVD onto the head unit as it keeps ejecting it. I burnt the v9 map onto a dual layer (Verbatim DVD+R DL) so all should be good. Thinking it maybe the computer that was the problem I've also purchased a copy but I keep getting the same problems.
I'm coming to the conclusion that I may have to buy an original map from VW but before I spend £195 I want to make sure it's not the unit that's not reading the DVD and not a fault of my DVD's.
Does anybody have any suggestions or an original VW DVD they could let me try in unit. I live in Nottingham and I'm willing to have a drive over to wherever you are - within reason of course ;)
Cheers,
Steve

Hi mate,
Ive got the latest V9 maps disc you can try.
Im over in Lincoln though.
-
Might be the fact that it's dual layer. IIRC you can delete a certain folder (POIs?) so you can fit it on a single layer disc.
-
Hi everyone. I sent Steve a v9 disc which I tested on mine and it worked. Any ideas why it wouldnt work on his? Problem with dvd drive?

From what I've seen posted some are very fussy about what disk they will take
Going to be trying this myself probably tomorrow.... (same DVD, Verbatim DVD+R DL)

Cheers for that mate...really appreciate it! As not to waste your time I'm going to investigate the DVD reader first as I'm thinking that could be the problem
Thanks again for the offer, I'll let you know if & when I get it sorted

Cheers for that idea bud. I think I'll give that a go as a last resort before taking a look at the DVD reader

Yes I found the same thing mate...unfortunately I've not solved mine yet but I wish you luck with yours tomorrow though!
The good news is you've got the best quality DVD so you should be okay :happy2:

Not a good start - tried tonight. First DVD, burned via Nero at slowest speed on my Pioneer Blu-Ray burner - RNS says no! CD/DVD Error.
So I've done another one via IMGBurn on my other Toshiba DVD burner. Will test that one out tomorrow............
-
I had the same problem - tried burning files on two verbatim DVDs and the rns just span them and kicked out. Those very se files worked fine previously on a friends rns.
Managed to get what I think is a genuine copy very reasonably whic I am trying now and so far so good seems to be loading on to the hard drive
Edit: maps have finished downloading to the hdd all first glance all seems well, I can use full uk postcodes which ia a good start.
Certainly seems some units do not like copy DVDs

Yeah that's what happened to me too. High quality DVD on 3 occasions but still got the CD/DVD error.
Hopefully you'll have better look than me!! :happy2:

Nope - mines a tw4t too.
That's Verbatim DVD, slowest speed on 2 different burners - spits both out. Wondering 2 things - is the image good, maybe something missing from it to make the DVD recognise it, or can you update the maps using SD Card?
-
Tried again using imburn and my blu ray recorder no go.
Also tried one using my laptop, won't read that either.
Come to the conclusion it won't read DL disks. Using single layer for firmware changes it reads those burnt ones fine.
If I could only get it onto a single layer disk! (Only way I found on the net would lose all poi's and you can't get them back on).

You could upgrade to 4xxx fw and import pois through sd card.

Raz, other than the obvious are there any benefits for upgrading to 4xxx fw?

Not too sure buddy
I think its slightly more responsive. Startup time might be improved too.

Does that one work with the battery drain fix though?
Also others seem to say if you remove the poi's they become greyed out on the nav and you can't re add via SD.......?
-
I've not seen 4xxx work with battery drain fix.

Damn! I thought that was the case.
Have to hunt ebay for an official disk
