Title: This forum is costing me too much money...
Post by: Homer on November 17, 2013, 11:45:16 pm
Every time I think I am done with mods for a while you lot start talking about something  else and I go "hmm now that would be a good mod for the car".

I thought I would stop after the recent mods but now am looking to get an intercooler, suspension upgrade, engine mounts and the list goes on.

I get what red robin always use to say, modding is a slippery slope....

Map . Brakes . Tyres, the rest can be spent on a new car.

Using my mental man maths I reckon modding might save you money in the long term...because.

Having spent a few quid on Ohlins suspension/Supapro stuff and a Peloquin diff etc for my stg 2+ Ed30.

I was curious to see how a new Mk7 GTi with performance pack actually felt and drove. So tried one on Friday.
Apart from the lure of it being new and shiney and discounting the numerous gadgets a new Mk7 has...it only drove ok.

Nothing bad about the drive. But the ride wasn't great and whilst the e'diff felt quite seemless and very impressive in use.
It didn't make me want to 'sell a kidney' to own one.
And I really remember the 'take me to the paperwork trance' I felt after testing an Ed30 demo in 2007..

So saved buying a new Mk7 GTi..as still very content with Mk5.

^^^^ Great logic.  :notworthy:

I keep telling my wife "I'm done" She knows better though.

My mods cost double as whatever I spank on the car, she gets to spend on herself. Consequently my new clutch is costing £200, my intake was £150, new rims were £200 etc etc, she'll never know!!!

Mod it, enjoy it, strip it, sell it, buy another one and repeat steps 1 to 4.

That's how i justify spending on the mods.  :happy2:

Very Good !

 :congrats: :congrats:

That's just how it is...... There's always room for improvements, even know they are not needed, but just try telling yourself that  :fighting2:

It's not anything I personally have seen done before, and it is something that requires the US rear bumper I have listed. Don't hold your breath though, it's gonna be a while. Haha. There will be updates when the time comes. I was more sharing how long my list is.

I understand what you lot mean.....
Brought a standard ed30 Dsg a year ago & thinking I'm going to be happy with it then I read on this forum
That r-tech are a very good tuner so went up to them for a supply & fit milktek sportscat & remap, nick threw me in a Dsg map for free....happy with the results until I saw a groupbuy from Aps for the H&R arbs & springs, the deal was too good to miss as they did the alignment too...next stop I brought a nqsbbk & twin take.....happy for a few months until Nige from bcs came on the forum & threw out a good deal on there powervalve exhaust, again it's too good to miss...a month later near Christmas last year I took my ed30 to Jkm for a service & asked them to give me a quote on the ths ic & apr pump ..Kate gave me a very good price"again it too good to miss"...had all the mods on the car but waited until the weather was better
For another remap.....then I sold it in the summer this year & brought a mk6 golfR Dsg & the modding has started again
When will it end!!!!!!
