So, my steering rack needs replacing. I just put my car up for sale and then this issue arose...nightmare.
A local breaker has a rack but but not from a gti. Are all steering racks got mk5's the same? Part number from VW is 1K2423055K. Any help much appreciated!

May be different revisions but all are the same in terms of lock to lock turns.
-
Different revisions try and get one off a late mk5 or a mk6

I'm not too fussed which rev it is, I just want it to fit and function. I am selling the car. Any ideas folks as I'm really stuck.
-
Then get a cheap one from a scrappy or something, as long as it all works it should be fine.
early ones do suffer from a cracking noise on left lock however this does not effect the steering and is not a safety/wear issue.

A local scrappy has one from a 1.6 mk5 golf, is that going to fit/function? Every breaker I call says they can't confirm the racks they have are going to fit as they don't match the part no I'm providing. That part no is the latest rev so chances are they will be hard to come across. If I can get a prev rev that works I'll be happy.

They are all the same turns lock to lock you may need to reprogram the steering ECU coding but should work.

Managed to get hold of one from a breaker. Came off a 2006 GTI so fingers crossed all is good. Cheers for the help folks.
