Hi there
So i have a golf mk5 gti an i am finding myself regularly having to top up the oil. Im aware that these engines do drink oil but doubt it would be the large amounts i am having to put in.
was wondering if there were any common leaks or something else causing this
Thanks

The 2.0 tfsi engines commonly use quite a bit of oil. Some of them do not-it appears to depend on how the engine has been run in when new. The bores get glazed if run in gently and therefore oil consumption increases.
You need to tell us how much oil it's using to get an accurate answer.

Ive had to put in around 2.5L in the past 2 months in which i did approx 2500 miles

That is actually within VW parameters, believe it or not.

I'm around 500ml of oil to 5 k miles

Is there anything that can be done to reduce the amount of oil used, or is it just a case of is uses what it does.
