Title: hii *warning contains moaning*
Post by: mrdelboy on November 20, 2013, 11:30:16 pm
Hi all sorry if I have posted my rant in the wrong section
having been a diesel owner over the past 3 years e46 330d I finally decided to stop poluting the roads with thick layers of black smog .
So about two months ago I brought a 2006 gti dsg had around 75k but was completley standered no leathers or nav   :sad1: ended up getting a good deal so the thinking was to do it up slowly and maybe play with it a little nothing major just a remap as stock is well ..... Stock lol
So after a week I took it to the stealers for a service , just my luck first night out and engine management light comes on and the car was not running as it should did a bit of research and was showing signs of dv problems, to my joy the dv was knackered ( thinking I got away with it on the cheap
So to my horror on the way out of the garage same thing a bit jumpy when I put my foot down and loss of power at about 60+ .
So I booked it into vw and today I got my results : new camshaft and high pressure fuel pump and they quoted me £1700  :scared:

Now I have a few options none include main dealer all would be through a specialist and wouldn't mind some friendly advice  :happy2:
I have seen a loba hpfp it says it increases performance ? If it does how much more then standered ? What other parts would I need with it ? Were can I get a camshaft from ? I don't mind spending a bit extra if it will increase performance , thanks for reading cheers

A loba, APR, autotech ect.... Fuel pumps are there to be using in conjunction with a remap and other modifications, the provide a higher pressure of fuel needed for...more power.

With those things needing replacing was it a worn cam follower that caused the issue?

Where in the UK are you and we can point you in the direction of some friendly garages that wont rip you off.

Camshaft???  :surprised:

Are you sure they didn't say HPFP and Cam follower?

They would be around £160+vat for genuine VAG ones

Fitting.....about an hour £60???

Id send a pm to AKS-Alex on the forum for advice.

Where abouts are you?

Hi thanks for the reply Im based in north London , he's words were the tapets are wearing in the camshaft they apparently found bits in the hpfp causing it to fail so both need replacing , or something along those lines . he said it could be repairable but as there main dealer they have to change the parts he advised me to take it to a specialist as they might be able to repair it without replacing parts ? Thanks
